"en": "The sample is 3D printed with the laser bed technique. The particles are composed of FeSi with 6.5% silicon, intended for channeling the magnetic flux in electrical applications. The sample are prepared at Taltech by Hans Tiismus, in Tallinn. Bi-metallic samples produced using additive manufacturing represent a multi-material structure consisting of Inconel 625 and electrical steel with 3% silicon. "en": "This dataset contains material volumes (m3), material masses (kg), and material intensities (kg/m2) for representative buildings from 51 residential building cohorts in Finland. These data are presented per material and in total, aggregated on three hierarchical levels on the correspondingly named sheets in the OpenDocument Spreadsheet (ODS) file: the entire building (data_building), distinguished between vertical building levels (data_building_level), and distinguished between building parts (data_building part). Further details on the data are provided on the description sheet in the same file.\r\n\r\nThe cohorts are based on building type, main bearing material, main façade material, and construction decade. Each cohort is represented by one inventoried building, covering the combinations in the tables below. All buildings are located in the city of Vantaa, Finland, with the exception of the 1940s and 1950s houses, which are based on type-planned houses and thus have no specific location."

"en": "The main themes of the 2025 Youth Barometer are the pressures young people experience and the expectations placed on them. The survey examines young people's perceptions of educational expectations, as well as their goals, life course, and views on the future. It also explores issues related to well-being, identity, and values. The survey began with questions on schooling, educational choices, and educational goals. Respondents were asked about their experiences of academic performance and the expectations placed on their educational choices by parents, teachers, and other important people in their lives. The survey also examined sources of pressure in young people's lives and the support they receive in dealing with them. The next section focused on young people's life course and future plans. Respondents were asked whether they had reached certain life stages, such as starting a romantic relationship, moving out of their parents' home, and supporting themselves through work, and how important they considered these milestones. The survey also explored whether respondents identified with minority groups, the significance of minority identities, and experiences of discrimination. In addition, questions covered social values, environmental attitudes, and views, behaviours, and concerns related to climate change. The final section examined respondents' well-being, sense of belonging in society, life management, future expectations, and feelings of uncertainty and insecurity across different areas of life. Background variables include the respondent's gender, age group, region of residence, native language, main activity, own and parents' level of education, and perceived household financial situation.",
"fi": "Vuoden 2025 Nuorisobarometrin pääteemoja ovat nuorten kokemat paineet ja heihin kohdistuvat odotukset. Kyselyssä selvitetään nuorten kokemuksia koulutukseen liittyvistä odotuksista sekä heidän tavoitteitaan, elämänkulkuaan ja tulevaisuuttaan koskevia käsityksiä. Lisäksi tarkastellaan nuorten hyvinvointiin, identiteettiin ja arvoihin liittyviä kysymyksiä. Kyselyn aluksi kartoitettiin vastaajien kokemuksia koulunkäynnistä, koulutusvalinnoista ja koulutustavoitteista. Vastaajilta kysyttiin esimerkiksi koulumenestykseen liittyvistä kokemuksista sekä siitä, millaisia odotuksia vanhemmat, opettajat ja muut läheiset ovat asettaneet koulutusvalinnoille. Lisäksi selvitettiin, millaisista asioista nuoret kokevat paineita ja keneltä he saavat tukea niiden käsittelemiseen. Seuraavaksi tarkasteltiin nuorten elämänkulkuun ja tulevaisuudensuunnitelmiin liittyviä kysymyksiä. Vastaajilta tiedusteltiin tiettyjen elämänvaiheiden, kuten seurustelun aloittamisen, vanhempien luota pois muuttamisen ja omalla työllä elättämisen, saavuttamisesta sekä siitä, kuinka tärkeinä he pitävät näitä asioita. Tämän jälkeen kartoitettiin vastaajien kuulumista erilaisiin vähemmistöihin, vähemmistöön kuulumisen merkitystä identiteetille sekä kokemuksia syrjinnästä. "en": "The study charted Finnish people's values and attitudes. The themes of the Autumn 2024 survey included trust in various influencing institutions in Finnish society, the media, the use of artificial intelligence, public finances, taxation, investment, and the 2024 United States presidential election. First, the respondents were presented with a variety of attitudinal statements concerning, among other topics, politics, the pension system, elections, and Finland's relations with the United States. The respondents were asked to indicate their level of trust in different institutions. They were also asked about how Finland's economy, public debt levels, employment and security will develop in the coming years. The next set of questions focused on the Finnish media. The respondents were asked to evaluate, for example, the news accuracy, the alleged politicisation of the news media, and the characteristics of traditional media. The use of foreign news sources were also surveyed. The respondents were asked about their familiarity with and use of various AI-based online applications. Those who had used AI were asked about their primary purpose for doing so, the impact on task efficiency and output quality, and whether they used AI in their work. The study also charted employers' attitudes towards the use of AI in professional tasks. Financial matters were studied with questions relating taxation change needs and the rebalancing of public finance. Views on expenditure cuts to different public sectors and services were surveyed. Furthermore, the study examined attitudes towards investing and respondents' own investments in stocks and mutual funds. Finally, the respondents were asked to assess the potential impacts of either Trump or Harris being elected President of the United States, particularly in terms of the US economy and global peace and conflict. Opinions were also charted on Finland's NATO membership, Finland's EU membership and the adoption of the euro. Background variables included the respondent's gender, age group, number of inhabitants in the municipality of residence, region (NUTS3), type of employer, working hours, type of employment contract, education, economic activity and occupational status, employment sector, trade union membership, what political party R would vote for in parliamentary elections, self-perceived social class, mother tongue, minority status and annual gross income of the R's household.",

Tällä kertaa teemoina ovat luottamus yhteiskunnallisia toimijoita kohtaan, tiedotusvälineet, tekoälyn käyttö, julkinen talous, verotus, sijoittaminen sekä Yhdysvaltojen presidentinvaalit 2024. Vastaajat arvioivat esimerkiksi eri uutisvälineiden tapahtumista välittämän kuvan totuudenmukaisuutta, uutisvälineiden väitettyä politisoitumista sekä perinteisten tiedotusvälineiden luonnehdintoja. Kysyttiin myös ulkomaisten uutisvälineiden seuraamisesta. Tekoälyyn liittyen kysyttiin eri tekoälyn verkkosovellusten tuttuudesta ja mahdollisesta käytöstä. Tekoälyä käyttäneiltä kysyttiin ensisijaisesta käyttötarkoituksesta, käytön vaikutuksesta tehtävän hoitoon kuluneeseen aikaan ja tuotoksen laatuun sekä tekoälyn käytöstä työtehtävissä. Kysyttiin myös, miten työnantaja suhtautuu tekoälyn käyttöön työtehtävissä. Julkiseen talouteen liittyen tiedusteltiin vastaajien ajatuksia mahdollisista lisätoimista ja menoleikkauksista, joilla julkista taloutta voidaan tasapainottaa. Kysyttiin myös verotuksen muutostarpeista ja perintöveron poistamisesta sekä työeläkejärjestelmän rahoituksesta. Lisäksi kysyttiin vastaajien suhtautumisesta sijoittamiseen sekä heidän omista sijoituksistaan osakkeisiin ja sijoitusrahastoihin. Yhdysvaltojen presidentinvaaleihin liittyen vastaajia pyydettiin arvioimaan, millaisia erilaisia vaikutuksia Trumpin ja Harrisin valinnalla presidentiksi olisi esimerkiksi Yhdysvaltain talouteen sekä rauhaan ja konflikteihin maailmassa. Lisäksi kysyttiin, miten vastaajat suhtautuvat Suomen Nato- ja EU-jäsenyyteen sekä euroon. "en": "The survey investigated the employment and career development of doctoral degree holders in working life. The importance of academic skills and abilities in working life and their broader impact in society were also charted. The survey was related to the Academy of Finland Report on the State of Scientific Research in Finland, which charted the resources and publishing activities of universities and research institutions as well as the broader impact of scientific research in society. The respondents were first asked where they had worked before, during and after their dissertation research and the number of different employers they had had after the dissertation. The respondents' employers and work tasks at the time of the survey were studied. The importance of academic skills and abilities was studied by asking the respondents which skills had been important for them, in which contexts the skills had been useful, and if the respondents had gained any added value in the workplace from being a doctor. Broader impact of academic skills was studied by asking the respondents about the expert communities they belonged to and the ways their work activities related to academic research. Factors influencing the impact of the respondents' academic skills were studied with a number of statements. The background variables included the year when the respondent obtained the doctor's degree, university and field of study, age, and gender.",
"fi": "Kyselyllä kerättiin tietoa tohtorien sijoittumisesta ja työurista, tutkimustyön tuottamien valmiuksien merkityksestä työelämässä sekä tieteellisestä tutkimuksesta kumpuavan osaamisen laajemmasta vaikuttavuudesta yhteiskunnassa. Kysely liittyy Suomen Akatemian Tieteen tila 2016 -katsaukseen, jossa tarkastellaan mm. yliopistojen ja tutkimuslaitosten resursseja ja julkaisutoimintaa sekä tieteellisen tutkimuksen laajempaa vaikuttavuutta yhteiskunnassa. Vastaajilta kysyttiin aluksi väitöskirjatutkimuksen sijoittumisesta työuralla, missä vastaaja on työskennellyt ennen väitöskirjatutkimukseen ryhtymistä, väitöskirjatutkimuksen aikana ja sen jälkeen. Kysyttiin myös eri työnantajien lukumäärää väitöskirjatutkimuksen jälkeen. Seuraavaksi kysyttiin nykyistä työnantajaa ja työtilannetta, työskentelypaikkakuntaa tai -maata sekä työtehtävien luonnetta. Kysyttiin myös, mitkä tutkimustyön tuottamat valmiudet ovat olleet tärkeitä työuralla ja missä niistä on ollut hyötyä. Seuraavaksi haluttiin tietää, millaista lisäarvoa tutkimustyön tuottamat valmiudet ovat tuoneet vastaajille. Tämän jälkeen siirryttiin kartoittamaan, millaisia vaikutuksia tieteellisestä tutkimustyöstä kumpuavalla osaamisella, ymmärryksellä, näkemyksellä ja taidoilla on yhteiskunnassa yleensä. Vastaajilta kysyttiin, millaisessa työ- tai osaamisyhteisössä he toimivat, millaisella alueellisella laajuudella yhteisön toiminta vaikuttaa sekä millä tavoin työ/toiminta liittyy tieteelliseen tutkimukseen ja siitä kumpuavaan osaamiseen. Lopuksi tiedusteltiin vastaajien tieteellisen osaamisen hyödyntämiseen vaikuttavia tekijöitä. Vastaajia pyydettiin kertomaan niistä tekijöistä, jotka mahdollistavat tai rajoittavat tämän osaamisen hyödyntämistä. Taustamuuttujina ovat tohtorintutkinnon suoritusvuosi, -paikka ja tieteenala, ikä sekä sukupuoli."

"en": "The survey gathered information on the effects, impact, and interaction of research outside the academic community. The impact was surveyed on the following four fields: ecology, evolutionary biology and ecophysiology; history; materials science and technology; and medical engineering and health technologies. The survey was related to Academy of Finland Report on the State of Scientific Research in Finland. The respondents were first asked about the societal context of their research, including the principal site and objective of the research as well as funding of the research. The researchers' pathways to impact were studied by asking the respondents about the ways their work was conveyed beyond the academia. Interaction with different stakeholders and organisations was studied. In addition, the roles of these stakeholders in research were investigated. The respondents were asked about things that could hinder the attribution of impact to their research and where the potential impacts of their research could be seen (public institutions and services, economy and economic renewal, health and wellbeing, the environment and natural resources, or human capacities and culture). The background variables included the respondent's years of experience in research after obtaining a doctor's degree, field of study, and role in academia.",
"fi": "Tutkimuksella kerättiin tietoa tutkimuksen vuorovaikutuksesta, vaikutuksista ja vaikuttavuudesta tiedeyhteisön ulkopuolella. Vaikutuksia selvitettiin neljällä tieteenalalla: (1) ekologia, evoluutiobiologia ja ekofysiologia, (2) historiatieteet, (3) materiaalitiede ja -tekniikka, (4) lääketieteellinen tekniikka ja terveysteknologiat. Aluksi kartoitettiin tutkimuksen yhteiskunnallisia lähtökohtia, kuten tutkimuksen pääasiallista suorituspaikkaa, tutkimuksen tavoitteita ja päämääriä sekä rahoittajatahoja. Seuraavat kysymykset käsittelivät vaikuttamisen kanavia: kysyttiin miten tutkimuksen tuottama uusi tieto, teknologia, osaaminen tai ymmärrys välittyy tiedeyhteisön ulkopuolelle. Tämän jälkeen kysyttiin minkälaisten sidosryhmien, organisaatioiden tai toimijoiden kanssa tutkimus on ollut vuorovaikutuksessa sekä millaisessa roolissa nämä toimijat ovat olleet suhteessa tutkimukseen. Haluttiin myös tietää, missä tutkimuksen potentiaaliset vaikutukset ilmenevät. Taustamuuttujia ovat vastaajan väittelyn jälkeinen kokemus tutkimustyöstä, tieteenala sekä vastaajan rooli tutkimuskentällä."

The survey is part of the METSO collaborative research project funded by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (2013-2016). The respondents were first asked about the type of tasks that are included in their daily work (e.g. consultation of forest owners, creating forest management plans), and about their experiences of new work methods, such as Terrestrial Laser Scanning (TLS) techniques, and new forest management methods made possible by recent changes to the Forest Act. Experiences of voluntary forest conservation were examined, as well as whether the respondents had participated in trainings regarding the new Forest Act or the METSO biodiversity programme. The respondents were also asked to evaluate their own expertise and areas of development both personally and in the industry more generally. Views on the motives and goals of forest management planning as well as experiences of the professional-client relationship and different types of client interaction were surveyed with a set of attitudinal statements. The study also surveyed attitudes towards voluntary forest conservation as well as forest inventories, their usefulness and reliability. The respondents were asked about changes in their work tasks within the previous three years. In addition, their wishes for development in their work practices were queried with an open-ended question. The final questions covered work motivation, perceptions of own expertise, new work methods and tools, and the reliability of devices, software and databases used by the respondent's organisation. The respondents' views on ideal work practices and tools were also examined, especially relating to Terrestrial Laser Scanning. Background variables included gender, year of birth, position of employment, time worked in the current position, education history, and time worked in the industry.",

Tutkimuksessa tiedusteltiin myös vastaajien suhtautumista metsävaratietoon ja sen käyttömahdollisuuksiin (esim. Metsävaratiedon tulee olla tasapuolisesti kaikkien toimijoiden saatavilla). Lopuksi kysyttiin muutoksista toimenkuvassa kolmen vuoden ajalta sekä toiveita siitä miten metsäsuunnittelun tulisi kehittyä. Edelleen tiedusteltiin työmotivaatiosta sekä uusien työkalujen ja -välineiden avusta työssä. Vastaajat saivat myös kertoa ideaalisista työvälineistä ja -menetelmistä erityisesti liittyen laserkeilaukseen. Taustamuuttujina ovat sukupuoli, ikä, ammattiasema, koulutushistoria ja nykyisen työsuhteen kesto."

"en": "The survey, conducted by the University of Eastern Finland, Finnish Environment Institute SYKE and Finnish Forest Research Institute charted second home tourism in Finland in 2012. Themes in the survey included, among others, living environment and activities for which second homes were used. The study was funded by the Academy of Finland (SA 255424). In addition to background variables, the respondents were first asked questions about their permanent residence, such as the type of housing, housing tenure, size of housing, years lived in the house/apartment, likelyhood of moving house in the following 5 and 10 years, and use of another apartment/house for study, work or other reasons. Further, the respondents were asked whether they had childhood experiences of spending time or living in the countryside, whether they had stayed overnight somewhere else than home in the previous 12 months and if so, where, in what kind of accommodation and how many nights. Regarding the access to and use of a second home (incl. owned summer cottages, long-term rental cottages, apartments or other dwellings used for leisure, accommodation in an allotment garden, timeshares, and travel trailers), the questions charted whether the respondents had access to a second home, how many different second homes they used per year, whether they were planning on getting a second home, and whether it was likely they were going to inherit a second home in the future. More detailed questions about the second home(s) used the most by the respondents included, among others, location, type, ownership, number of years used, type of neighbourhood, size, amenities, number of nights spent in the second home each month, transportation used to reach it, distance between home and the second home, and the importance of various services close to the second home (e.g. grocery shop, health care, Internet connection). Finally, living environments were investigated by asking the respondents what they regarded important in the environments of their permanent home and second home (e.g. possibility to spend time with family, possibility to enjoy nature, good connections), which changes had occurred in these environments and whether the changes were positive or negative, whether they thought spending leisure time at a second home had harmful effects on the environment, and how good a knowledge of environmental changes they had. Background variables included the respondent's gender, year of birth, spouse's/partner's year of birth, place of residence, education, economic activity and occupational status as well as the number of children in the household and gross annual income of the household.",

Kysyttiin muun muassa aikomuksista hankkia vapaa-ajan asuntoa, vapaa-ajan asunnon tyyppiä, sen rakennettua ja luonnonympäristöä sekä pinta-alaa ja varustetasoa. Haluttiin myös tietää, kuinka usein ja kuinka monta yötä vastaaja viettää aikaa vapaa-ajan asunnolla kuukausittain, mitä kulkuvälineitä hän käyttää sekä etäisyyttä vakituiselta asunnolta. Lisäksi kartoitettiin syitä vapaa-ajan asunnon käyttöön sekä erilaisten palveluiden tärkeyttä. Kysymyksiin oli mahdollista vastata kahden eniten käyttämänsä vapaa-ajan asunnon osalta. Viimeisessä osiossa vertailtiin vakituisen ja vapaa-ajan asuntojen ympäristöjä. Tiedusteltiin kummankin asunnon osalta, kuinka tärkeänä vastaaja pitää esimerkiksi sitä, että saa olla perheen tai ystävien kanssa, pääsee irtautumaan arjesta ja laitteista, saa liikkua luonnossa ja kalastaa tai metsästää, asunto on hyvin varusteltu ja asuminen ympäristöystävällistä, ympäristö on turvallinen ja lapsi- ja lemmikkiystävällinen, liikenneyhteydet ovat hyvät tai työpaikka, koulu tai palvelut ovat lähellä. Lopuksi pyydettiin arvioimaan esimerkiksi liikenteen ja viheralueiden määrää vakituisen ja vapaa-ajan asuntojen ympäristöissä sekä vapaa-ajan asumisen ympäristövaikutuksia. Aineistossa ovat taustamuuttujina vastaajan sukupuoli ja syntymävuosi, puolison syntymävuosi, täysi-ikäisten ja alle 18-vuotiaiden määrä kotitaloudessa, kotipaikkakunnan tilastollinen kuntaryhmitys ja maakunta sekä syntymämaa, koulutus, asema ja kotitalouden yhteenlaskettu bruttovuositulo."

The respondents were described seven different cases, and asked what sentence they would pass in each of the cases. The imaginary cases constructed for the survey describe following crimes: 1. Violence in public space (aggravated assault), 2. Sexual intercourse with a minor (sexual abuse of a child), 3. Sexual intercourse with a sleeping person, and coercion into sex (rape), 4. Violence in domestic relationship (assault), 5. Smuggling and selling narcotics (aggravated narcotics offence), 6. Tax evasion (aggravated tax fraud), 7. Operating a car while under the influence of alcohol (driving while seriously intoxicated). The background variable is the respondent's gender.",

"fi": "Aineistossa on haastateltu kuuden koiraharrastajia palvelevan yrityksen yrittäjiä. Osaa yrityksistä johtaa useampi henkilö, joten haastateltavia on yhteensä 12. Osa yrityksistä tarjoaa koulutuspalveluita esimerkiksi agilityssa tai paimennuksessa, ja osa tarjoaa majoitus- ja ruokapalveluja. "en": "The survey examined Finnish people's attitudes on crime, punishment, judges, courts, and criminals. Furthermore, views on what would be a suitable punishment for different types of crime were investigated. The survey began with a set of crime-related true or false statements (e.g. \"A typical Finnish convict is a man with an alcohol and drug abuse issues\"). The respondents were asked how much they followed news about crime and punishment on different media outlets. The respondents' trust in different institutions, such as the police and the healthcare system, was investigated. Next, the respondents were asked how they would distribute 100 million euros between different crime prevention methods. Furthermore, the respondents were asked how important they thought certain goals (e.g. \"Rehabilitation of criminals\", \"Compensating the victims of the crime\") were for criminal punishment. Opinions on criminal courts and the safety of the respondents' own neighbourhood were probed. The extent to which the respondents agreed or disagreed with several statements about judges and criminals was studied. The respondents were also asked how much they thought public opinion should influence a number of issues (e.g. taxation, alcohol price). In the next part, the respondents were presented with seven different criminal cases, and asked what punishment would be fitting for each case. If the respondents felt that a prison sentence was required, they were also asked if there were any basis for a more lenient sentence (e.g. \"The victim does not wish for prison sentence\" \"The felon is younger than 18-years old\"). Furthermore, the respondents were asked whether the punishments for the aforementioned crimes should be harsher or more lenient than they were at the time of surveying. Finally, opinions on the importance of several values were charted. The background variables included the respondent's gender, age, marital status, household composition, educational level, economic activity and occupational status, household gross income, voting in elections, and political party preference, as well as the total time spent in educational institutions, and whether the respondent or any member of their household had been a victim of violence or theft in the past 5 years.",

Tutkimuksen tavoitteena oli myös selvittää yleisen oikeustajun ja nykyisen rangaistuskäytännön mahdollisia eroja. Aluksi vastaajille esitettiin väittämiä koskien erilaisia rikoksia ja rikoksiin liittyviä asioita, sekä kysyttiin, miten usein vastaajat seuraavat rikosuutisointia eri medioista tai tietolähteistä. Tämän jälkeen kysymykset mittasivat luottamusta eri tahoihin ja instituutioihin. Kysyttiin myös, miten vastaajat jakaisivat mahdollisen rikollisuuden torjuntaan tarkoitetun uuden määrärahan sekä millaisia tavoitteita rikosseuraamuksilla tulisi olla. Seuraavaksi esitettiin tuomareita koskevia väittämiä ja kysyttiin, missä määrin kansalaismielipiteen tulisi vaikuttaa päätettäessä yhteisistä asioista. Vastaajille kuvailtiin myös seitsemän erilaista rikostapausta ja kysyttiin, millaisen rangaistuksen he määräisivät kustakin tapauksesta. Jos vastaajien mielestä tapaus edellytti ehdotonta vankeutta, kysyttiin myös, millä edellytyksillä he olisivat valmiita lieventämään rangaistusta. "en": "The survey charted the housing conditions of higher education students in Tampere, Finland. The survey was divided into three main themes: current housing situation, housing preferences, and housing situation during studies. Regarding housing situation at the time of the survey, the questions surveyed type of housing the respondents lived in (housing type and housing tenure), household composition (number of roommates, children), size of housing (number of rooms and surface area), housing costs, distance to own university and city centre, travel time from home to university, and satisfaction with and opinions on housing. Concerning housing preferences, the respondents were asked which type of housing they would have preferred to live in, whether they were looking for new accommodation and what kind, what their attitude towards student housing was, how important they thought different things when looking for accommodation, in which neighbourhoods they would have wanted to live during their studies, how much they would have been prepared to pay for housing of their preference per month, and how much they thought reasonable housing costs for a student would be per month. Finally, with regard to housing situation during studies, the respondents were asked whether they had first moved out of their parents' house for studies, whether they had had diffculties in finding accommodation at the beginning of studies, how many different places and student apartments they had lived in during studies, how many months in total they had lived in student apartments, and, if they had moved house, reasons for moving. Background variables included the respondent's employment situation, marital status, disposable income per month, expected year of graduation, education level, and education and occupations of parents. Furthermore, the data contain background variables based on register data. These include the respondent's higher learning institution, age, gender, nationality, municipality of domicile and place of residence, the year R began their studies, faculty, and degree.",
"fi": "Aineistossa kartoitetaan Tampereen korkeakoulujen opiskelijoiden asumista vuonna 2016. Kysely on jaettu kolmeen pääteemaan: nykyinen asumistilanne, asumistoiveet ja asumishistoria opiskeluaikana. Vastaajilta tiedusteltiin aluksi asumistilanteeseen liittyen muun muassa asumistapaa, huoneistossa asuvien henkilöiden määrää, huoneiston kokoa, asumiskustannuksia, asunnon sijaintia sekä tyytyväisyyttä asumistilanteeseensa. Asumistoiveisiin liittyen kartoitettiin muun muassa suhtautumista opiskelija-asuntoihin sekä sitä, kuinka merkittävänä vastaaja piti asuntoa etsiessään esimerkiksi asumiskustannuksia, asunnon kokoa, etäisyyttä oppilaitokseen ja läheisiin ihmisiin, asunnon kuntoa ja varusteluita sekä asuinalueen ja taloyhtiön ominaisuuksia. Vastaajia pyydettiin myös valitsemaan kolme Tampereen asuinaluetta, joissa mieluiten asuisivat opiskeluaikana. Asumishistorian osalta kysyttiin opiskeluaikaisten muuttojen syitä, asuntojen määrää opiskeluaikana sekä asumisen kestoa kussakin asunnossa. Taustakysymyksinä tiedusteltiin vastaajien opiskelun päätoimisuutta, siviilisäätyä, kuukausittain käytettävissä olevia tuloja, opintojen arvioitua päättymisajankohtaa, aikaisempia opintoja sekä vanhempien koulutusta ja ammattia. Lisäksi aineistossa on rekisterimuuttujia, joita ovat muun muassa vastaajan korkeakoulu, sukupuoli, ikä luokiteltuna, kansalaisuus, koti- ja asuinkunta, opintojen aloitusvuosi luokiteltuna sekä tiedekunta ja suoritettava tutkinto."

Mammalian cell-entry (Mce) 1 complex encoded by the\n <jats:italic>mce1</jats:italic>\n operon is a mycolic/fatty acid importer.\n <jats:italic>mce1</jats:italic>\n operon also encodes a putative fatty acyl-CoA synthetase (FadD5; Rv0166), potentially responsible for the activation of fatty acids imported through the Mce1 complex by conjugating them to Coenzyme A. Here we report that FadD5 is associated to membrane although it can be purified as a soluble dimeric protein. ATP and CoA binding influence FadD5’s stability and conformation respectively. Enzymatic studies with fatty acids of varying chain lengths show that FadD5 prefers long chain fatty acids as substrates. X-ray crystallographic studies on FadD5 and its variant reveal that the C-terminal domain (∼100 residues) is cleaved off during crystallization. Noteworthy, deletion of this domain renders FadD5 completely inactive. SAXS studies, however, confirm the presence of full length FadD5 as a dimer in solution. "und": "<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title>\n <jats:p>\n The cell wall of\n <jats:italic>Mycobacterium tuberculosis</jats:italic>\n (Mtb), the causative agent of tuberculosis, is rich in complex lipids. During intracellular stage, Mtb depends on lipids for its survival. Mammalian cell-entry (Mce) 1 complex encoded by the\n <jats:italic>mce1</jats:italic>\n operon is a mycolic/fatty acid importer.\n <jats:italic>mce1</jats:italic>\n operon also encodes a putative fatty acyl-CoA synthetase (FadD5; Rv0166), potentially responsible for the activation of fatty acids imported through the Mce1 complex by conjugating them to Coenzyme A. Here we report that FadD5 is associated to membrane although it can be purified as a soluble dimeric protein. ATP and CoA binding influence FadD5’s stability and conformation respectively. Enzymatic studies with fatty acids of varying chain lengths show that FadD5 prefers long chain fatty acids as substrates. X-ray crystallographic studies on FadD5 and its variant reveal that the C-terminal domain (∼100 residues) is cleaved off during crystallization. Noteworthy, deletion of this domain renders FadD5 completely inactive. SAXS studies, however, confirm the presence of full length FadD5 as a dimer in solution.
