The dataset contains the sets of the optimized coefficients for the novel minimax approximations and bounds of the Gaussian Q-function, its first four integer powers and for the case of average symbol error probability (SEP) in optimal detection of 4-QAM that is actually a polynomial of the Q-function. The proposed approximations and bounds have the form of a weighted sum of exponential functions. The corresponding optimized coefficients are found up to twenty-five exponential terms with the right boundary of the finite interval on the x-axis (x_K+1) ranging from 1 to 10 in steps of 0.1 for the relative error. The Matlab function (func_extract_coef.m) extracts the required set of optimal coefficients from the provided dataset according to the selected error type, variation, number of terms and the right end-point in case of relative error. See help func_extract_coef for more information. A Matlab script (Example.m) is also provided as an example to illustrate the use of the provided Matlab function in extracting the required coefficients from the dataset, to calculate and plot the corresponding relative error which is shown by figure Example.jpg."

"en": "This dataset contains the time-dependent effective reproduction number Rt of the COVID-19 epidemic in Finland for the period Feb 27th 2020 - August 14th 2020. The reproduction number was estimated using the daily new coronavirus cases in the infectious diseases registry of Finland with an unscented RTS smoother and the SEIR epidemic model. The SEIR model was defined as \\(S(t+1) = S(t) - \\frac{R_t(t)}{T_i} I(t) \\frac{S(t)}{N} + \\omega_{S}\\\\ E(t+1) = E(t) + \\frac{R_t(t)}{T_i} I(t) \\frac{S(t)}{N} - \\frac{E(t)}{T_e} + \\omega_{E}\\\\ I(t+1) = I(t) + \\frac{E(t)}{T_e}-\\frac{I(t)}{T_i} + \\omega_{I} \\\\ R_t(t+1) = R_t(t) + \\omega_{R_t}\\) with S, E, and I being the susceptible, exposed, and infective populations, Rt the time-dependent effective reproduction number, and ωs are normally distributed random numbers with zero mean and small (1e-8) variance except for ωRt whose variance was set to 0.00025. The exposed state duration was set to Te=3 days and infective state duration Ti=5 days. The measurement model (from the SEIR state to observed daily new cases) was defined as \\(P_\\text{new cases}(k) \\propto \\mathcal{N}\\left[ \\alpha \\frac{R_t(t-5 days)}{T_i}I(t-5\\text{days}) \\frac{S(t-5\\text{days})}{N}, \\sigma_\\text{new cases}^2(t) \\right]\\), i.e., via a time-delayed gaussian process whose variance was computed by the observed daily new cases with a 7-day rolling mean. Here the detection rate α is set to 10%, but has no significant affect on the computed R-values. The data is a CSV-format file with the columns date = ISO 8601 date string Rt = maximum a posteriori estimate of Rt Rt_lower50 = lower limit of the 50% credible interval for Rt Rt_upper50 = upper limit of the 50% credible interval for Rt Rt_lower90 = lower limit of the 90% credible interval for Rt Rt_upper90 = upper limit of the 90% credible interval for Rt"

"en": "Demo-code is developed for the paper \"ADMM and Spectral Proximity Operators in Hyperspectral Broadband Phase Retrieval for Quantitative Phase Imaging.\" Where we have described a novel formulation of the hyperspectral broadband phase retrieval. It is developed for the scenario where both object and modulation phase masks are spectrally varying. The proposed algorithm is based on a complex domain version of the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) and Spectral Proximity Operators (SPO) derived for Gaussian and Poissonian observations. Computations for these operators are reduced to the solution of sets of cubic (for Gaussian) and quadratic (for Poissonian) algebraic equations. These proximity operators resolve two problems. Firstly, the complex domain spectral components of signals are extracted from the total intensity observations calculated as sums of the signal spectral intensities. In this way, the spectral analysis of the total intensities is achieved. Secondly, the noisy observations are filtered, compromising noisy intensity observations and their predicted counterparts. The ability to resolve the hyperspectral broadband phase retrieval problem and to find the spectrum varying object are essentially defined by the spectral properties of object and image formation operators. The simulation tests demonstrate that the phase retrieval in this formulation can be successfully resolved."

"en": "Today’s students search, evaluate and actively use Web information in their school assignments, that is, they conduct an online inquiry. This current survey study addresses sixth-grade students’ self-efficacy beliefs in and attitudes towards online inquiry, and to what extent free-time and school-related Internet activity, gender and learning beliefs explain these. The questionnaire was administered in 10 schools to 340 sixth-graders in Finland. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses revealed three elements of self-efficacy beliefs: self-efficacy in Web searching, the evaluation of sources and synthesising information. Furthermore, attitudes towards online inquiry loaded into two factors: a positive and a negative attitude towards online inquiry. A structural equation model was used to analyse the effects of the explanatory variables on the factors. The results of this work suggest that gender and free-time Internet use predict most sixth-graders’ self-efficacy beliefs in and attitudes towards online inquiry."

"en": "Parity is known to have a protective effect as regards ovarian cancer, but its effect on the different histological subtypes of ovarian cancer is not well known. The impact of parity on the incidence of ovarian cancer subtypes was studied. All Finnish women diagnosed 1994–2013 with ovarian cancer for the first time were included. Altogether, 5412 cases of ovarian cancer were identified in the Finnish Cancer Registry and stratified according to morphology into serous, mucinous, endometrioid, clear cell and others. Five age-matched controls were randomly selected for each case from the Finnish National Population Registry. Data on postmenopausal hormonal therapy were derived from the Registry of Prescribed drugs and used as cofactors. Multivariate conditional logistic regression for matched case-control data was used to examine the associations between parity parameters and ovarian cancer risk. Parous women had lower risk than nulliparous women in getting ovarian cancer of any type under age of 55 years. The odds ratio (OR) for serous cancer was 0.65 (95% confidence interval 0.56–0.77), for mucinous cancer 0.66 (0.52–0.83), for endometrioid cancer 0.52 (0.40–0.68), for clear-cell cancer 0.30 (0.19–0.46) and for other types 0.59 (0.43–0.80). In women aged 55 or older, the respective ORs were 0.86 (0.75–0.99), 0.78 (0.57–1.07), 0.61 (0.47–0.79), 0.44 (0.29–0.66) and 0.74 (0.57–0.95), adjusted for hormone therapy. Number of childbirths was associated with a trend toward reduction of risk, especially in serous and clear-cell cancers. Higher age at first birth was associated with higher risk of clear-cell cancer but otherwise age at first or last birth did not have an impact on the incidence of cancer subtypes. Childbirths decrease the risk of all histologic subtypes of epithelial ovarian cancer in women in premenopausal and postmenopausal age."

"en": "The self-controlled case series is an important method in the studies of the safety of biopharmaceutical products. It uses the conditional Poisson model to make comparison within persons. In models without adjustment for age (or other time-varying covariates), cases who are never exposed to the product do not contribute any information to the estimation. We provide analytic proof and simulation results that the inclusion of unexposed cases in the conditional Poisson model with age adjustment reduces the asymptotic variance of the estimator of the exposure effect and increases power. We re-analysed a vaccine safety dataset to illustrate."

"en": "Abstract Background Blastocystis is a human gut symbiont of yet undefined clinical significance. In a set of faecal samples collected from asymptomatic children of six distant populations, we first assessed the community profiles of protist 18S rDNA and then characterized Blastocystis subtypes and tested Blastocystis association with the faecal bacteriome community. Methods Stool samples were collected from 244 children and young persons (mean age 11.3 years, interquartile range 8.1–13.7) of six countries (Azerbaijan 51 subjects, Czechia 52, Jordan 40, Nigeria 27, Sudan 59 and Tanzania 15). The subjects showed no symptoms of infection. Amplicon profiling of the 18S rDNA was used for verification that Blastocystis was the most frequent protist, whereas specific real-time PCR showed its prevalence and quantity, and massive parallel amplicon sequencing defined the Blastocystis subtypes. The relation between Blastocystis and the stool bacteriome community was characterized using 16S rDNA profiling. Results Blastocystis was detected by specific PCR in 36% (88/244) stool samples and was the most often observed faecal protist. Children from Czechia and Jordan had significantly lower prevalence than children from the remaining countries. The most frequent subtype was ST3 (49%, 40/81 sequenced samples), followed by ST1 (36%) and ST2 (25%). Co-infection with two different subtypes was noted in 12% samples. Riihonen, \"Generalized Karagiannidis–Lioumpas Approximations and Bounds to the Gaussian Q-Function with Optimized Coefficients,\" in IEEE Communications Letters, in press. The dataset contains the sets of the optimized coefficients for the novel GKL minimax approximations and bounds of the Gaussian Q-function, and the optimized coefficients for the GKL approximations in terms of the total error. The corresponding optimized coefficients are found up to 10 terms (N=10) for the two variations of the absolute error and for the relative error in terms of the minimax and the total errors. The Matlab function (func_extract_coef.m) extracts the required set of optimal coefficients from the provided dataset according to the selected optimization_criterion, error_type, number of terms, the bound or approximation type, and the variation. See help func_extract_coef for more information. A Matlab script (Example.m) is also provided as an example to illustrate the use of the provided Matlab function in extracting the required coefficients from the dataset, to calculate and plot the corresponding minimax absolute error function which is shown by figure Example.jpg. Another example is given in the same script to extract the coefficients of the total relative error."

"en": "ObjectiveTotal hip arthroplasty (THA) affects pelvic posture and spinal alignment. These postural changes may further predispose patients to mechanical complications (MCs) after THA. The aim of this study was to conduct a systematic review to investigate whether any high-quality studies have assessed the association between sagittal spinal alignment and MCs after primary THA.MethodsInclusion criteria for studies were adult patients (age ≥18 years), primary THA, pre- and postoperative spinopelvic standing sagittal radiographs acquired preoperatively and at a minimum of 6-month follow-up, measurements of spinopelvic parameters, and reporting of possible MCs after THA. The review was conducted according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses guidelines.ResultsSix articles met the inclusion criteria. Although several studies confirmed the importance of spinal alignment when planning THA, these mainly investigated pelvic mobility as a risk factor for THA dislocation. Radiological follow-up imaging practices varied, and studies focused on different individual spinopelvic parameters.ConclusionBased on our study findings, no conclusions can be drawn regarding the association between sagittal spinal alignment and MCs after primary THA. "en": "Embedding nonlinear dynamical systems into artificial neural networks is a powerful new formalism for machine learning. By parameterizing ordinary differential equations (ODEs) as neural network layers, these Neural ODEs are memory-efficient to train, process time-series naturally and incorporate knowledge of physical systems into deep learning models. However, the practical applications of Neural ODEs are limited due to long inference times, because the outputs of the embedded ODE layers are computed numerically with differential equation solvers that can be computationally demanding. Here we show that mathematical model order reduction methods can be used for compressing and accelerating Neural ODEs by accurately simulating the continuous nonlinear dynamics in low-dimensional subspaces. We implement our novel compression method by developing Neural ODEs that integrate the necessary subspace-projection and interpolation operations as layers of the neural network. We validate our approach by comparing it to neuron pruning and SVD-based weight truncation methods from the literature in image and time-series classification tasks. The methods are evaluated by acceleration versus accuracy when adjusting the level of compression. On this spectrum, we achieve a favourable balance over existing methods by using model order reduction when compressing a convolutional Neural ODE. In compressing a recurrent Neural ODE, SVD-based weight truncation yields good performance. Based on our results, our integration of model order reduction with Neural ODEs can facilitate efficient, dynamical system-driven deep learning in resource-constrained applications."

"en": "This publication comprise data obtained during a tension test where the strain rate was suddenly changed from 10-4 s-1 to 1.3x103 s-1. The sudden increase in strain rate was carried out at different amounts of plastic strain. The tests were carried out with a modified tension Split-Hopkinson Pressure bar device. The force was measured from the stress bars using strain gages, whereas the strain was measured using high speed photography and digital image correlation.
