Data may be obtained for research purposes, for example, for international publications or doctoral theses. The JYLS data are still in active use by the original research team and other users need their permission to gain access. The research team decides whether to grant access to the data or not on a case-by-case basis. In practice, the data are generally used in cooperation with researchers from the research team. The JYLS data have a special access application procedure that differs from the procedure normally used for data archived at the FSD. The application procedure has two stages: In the first stage, the data archive reviews the application, ensuring that the proposed purpose of use is in line with the above mentioned principles. If approved, the archive sends the applicant the documents, which include, for example, questionnaires, variable lists and frequencies. In the second stage, the applicant produces a detailed research plan specifying the variables needed, using the documents to identify them. The applicant sends this research plan directly to the director of the research team, Dr. Katja Kokko (katja.r.kokko@jyu.fi) If the application and research plan are approved, the research team sends the data directly to the applicant.",

"en": "The data are part of the Jyväskylä Longitudinal Study of Personality and Social Development (JYLS), in which the same individuals have been followed over 30 years. At this research stage, data were collected using teacher ratings, theme interviews (FSD2305), peer nominations (FSD2073), and parent interviews (FSD2074). The teacher interviews covered topics such as the 14-year-olds' school, the size of their class, their characteristics, status, popularity, school success, motivation, learning difficulties, use of alcohol and smoking, and attitude towards punishments. In addition, the teachers were asked whether they knew the 14-year-olds' parents and what the parents' attitude was towards their child's education. The dataset is available only in Finnish.",
"fi": "Haastattelu on osa Lapsesta aikuiseksi -tutkimusta, joka on jatkunut samojen henkilöiden seurantana yli 30 vuotta. Tämän tutkimusvaiheen tarkoituksena oli selvittää 14-vuotiaiden sosiaalista käyttäytymistä ja kasvuoloja. Tutkimusvaiheeseen kuuluivat opettaja-arvioinnin lisäksi tutkimushenkilöiden omat haastattelut (FSD2305), toveriarvioinnit (FSD2073) sekä vanhemman haastattelu (FSD2074). Opettajan haastattelussa käsiteltiin mm. opintomenestystä ja kiinnostusta koulutyöhön, suhtautumista mahdollisiin rangaistuksiin, kodin ja koulun yhteistyötä, oppilaan suosiota ja harrastuksia, luokkakokoa ja vanhempien suhtautumista koulukäyntiin. Opettajan haastattelussa tiedusteltiin ensin, missä koulussa oppilas oli ja kuinka paljon oppilaita hänen luokallaan oli. Seuraavaksi kyseltiin, millainen oppilas oli, kuinka suosittu hän oli, oliko hänellä läheisiä ystäviä, millainen oppilaan asema toveripiirissä oli. Oppilaan koulumenestystä kartoitettiin kyselemällä, kuinka kiinnostunut oppilas oli koulutyöhön, millainen hänen koulumenestyksensä oli, oliko oppilaalla mieliainetta tai erityisvaikeuksia. Lisäksi opettajilta tiedusteltiin, kuinka oppilas selvisi epäonnistumisista tai oliko oppilaalla luvattomia poissaoloja. Opettajalta kyseltiin, oliko oppilasta rangaistu, ja miten oppilas suhtautui rangaistuksiin. Lisäksi selvitettiin tunsiko opettaja oppilaan vanhemmat, ja kuinka vanhemmat suhtautuivat lapsen koulunkäyntiin. Lopuksi tiedusteltiin, oliko oppilas ollut tekemisissä viranomaisten kanssa, tupakoiko hän tai käyttikö alkoholia, oliko käytöksessä tapahtunut muutoksia ja oliko kotoa otettu yhteyttä opettajaan."

"en": "The data are part of the Jyväskylä Longitudinal Study of Personality and Social Development (JYLS), in which the same individuals have been followed over 30 years. The research stage also included a life situation questionnaire, personality tests, self-ratings based on various tests and methods, as well as a thorough medical examination. The interview focused on themes such as life structure, identity, self-image, alcohol, smoking, relationship, children, family life, work, and parents. First, the respondents were asked to tell about their impulsiveness and the most central things in their everyday lives. Some questions pertained to different phases of life, happiness, and hopes and fears. The respondents also indicated how much they thought about and acted to improve their health, sexuality, quality of life, and financial well-being. Their attitudes were also charted on their views of life, religion, politics, and lifestyle. Political and social participation was queried, as well as the respondents' dreams in life and whether they had come true. Further questions charted the respondents' satisfaction with their partner and themselves, and how old they would like to be and why. Mid-life crisis and desired retirement age were queried. Alcohol and drug use and smoking were surveyed, as well as well-being and psychological symptoms. Some questions concentrated on the respondents' leisure and recreational time. They were also asked to characterise their relationship with the help of various pictures and to tell about problems in their relationships caused by jealousness. In addition, the respondents were asked several questions on their children with topics such as the children's school success, friends, siblings, and punishment. Those who were divorced were asked about the custody of their children and the relationship between the absent parents and their children. Views on ideal distribution of house work were also canvassed. Further questions pertained to work. Questions charted the significance of work, career goals, leadership, number of employees, stress, influencing one's own work, and creativity. Effects of unemployment were investigated, as well as work-life balance. Finally, the respondents' relationship with their parents and possible step parents was examined with the help of questions on the distance between their homes, similarity of values, and financial and mental support. The relationship between the respondents' parents and children was also canvassed. The background variables included the respondent's gender.",
"fi": "Haastattelu on osa Lapsesta aikuiseksi -tutkimusta, joka on jatkunut samojen henkilöiden seurantana yli 30 vuotta. Tässä tutkimusvaiheessa tietoa kerättiin haastattelun lisäksi elämäntilannekyselyllä, persoonallisuustesteillä sekä eri testeihin ja menetelmiin perustuvilla kyselylomakkeilla. 42-vuotiaana tutkittaville tehtiin myös perusteellinen terveystarkastus. Haastattelun keskeisiä teemoja ovat elämänrakenne, identiteetti, minäkäsitys, alkoholi ja tupakointi, parisuhde, lapset ja perhe-elämä sekä työ ja omat vanhemmat. Ensin vastaajaa pyydettiin arvioimaan, miten ominaista impulsiivinen käyttäytyminen on hänelle eri asioiden, kuten rahankäytön suhteen. Seuraavaksi kysyttiin, mitkä asiat ovat hänelle elämässä tällä hetkellä kaikkein keskeisimpiä ja miksi. Eri ikävaiheita ajatellen vastaaja arvioi, kuinka onnellinen tai onneton hän on viime vuosina ollut. Edelleen hän kertoi, millaisia toiveita ja pelkoja hänellä on tulevaisuuden suhteen. Vastaajalta tiedusteltiin, minkä verran hän pohdiskelee erilaisia asioita tai tekee niiden eteen jokapäiväisessä elämässään. Arvioitavina olivat esimerkiksi terveys, seksuaalisuus, oman elämän pohdiskelu ja taloudellinen hyvinvointi. Seuraavaksi selvitettiin vastaajan mielipiteitä ja näkemyksiä elämänkatsomuksesta, uskonnosta, politiikasta ja elämäntyylistä. Vastaajan osallistumista poliittiseen ja yhteiskunnalliseen toimintaan kartoitettiin. Unelmista elämässä ja niiden toteutumisesta kysyttiin. Vastaajaa pyydettiin arvioimaan, onko hän saanut sellaisen kumppanin kuin on halunnut ja vastaako itse puolisonsa toiveita. Vastaajalta kysyttiin, minkä ikäinen toivoisi olevansa ja miksi. Edelleen tiedusteltiin, onko vastaaja kokenut keski-iän kriisiä ja onko hän joskus aikaisemmin elämässä miettinyt vakavasti elämänsä tavoitteita. Vastaaja kertoi myös, minkä ikäisenä hän haluaisi jäädä eläkkeelle ja minkä ikäisenä arvioisi sen olevan mahdollista. Alkoholinkäyttöä selvitettiin monilla kysymyksillä. Ensin vastaajaa pyydettiin arvioimaan yleisesti alkoholinkäyttöään elämänsä aikana. Alkoholinkäytön tai siitä pidättäytymisen aiheuttamia hankaluuksia kartoitettiin myös. Edelleen kyseltiin, mitkä seikat ovat vaikuttaneet vastaajan alkoholikäytössä tapahtuneisiin muutoksiin ja minkälaista kumppanin alkoholinkäyttö on ollut. Huumeiden käytöstä ja tupakoinnista esitettiin myös kysymyksiä. Seuraavaksi haluttiin tietää vastaajan hyvinvoinnista, psyykkisistä oireista, niiden syistä ja vaikutuksista elämään. Elämäniloon ja virkistykseen liittyen kyseltiin, jääkö vastaajalle tarpeeksi omaa aikaa ja joutuuko hän uhrautumaan jatkuvasti muiden hyväksi kotona tai työssä. Parisuhdetta pyydettiin luonnehtimaan erilaisten kuvien avulla. Oman tai puolison mustasukkaisuuden aiheuttamia ongelmia kartoitettiin. Vastaaja arvioi, onko mustasukkaisuus aiheuttanut esimerkiksi toistuvaa riitaa tai fyysistä väkivaltaa sekä pohti, mitä ylipäätään parisuhteesta ajattelee. Seuraavaksi keskusteltiin vastaajan lapsista. Vastaaja kertoi lasten koulumenestyksestä, ystävistä, ja arvioi, miten lapset tulevat selviytymään elämässään. Lisäksi pyydettiin arvioimaan, miten erilaisia tai samanlaisia sisarukset ovat toisiinsa verrattuna. Kasvatukseen liittyen vastaajalta kysyttiin mm. äärimmäistä keinoa, johon hän voisi turvautua lapsen tehdessä jotain luvatonta. Eronneilta vastaajilta tiedusteltiin eron ajankohtaa ja syitä liiton purkautumiselle. Vastaajaa pyydettiin kertomaan, miten he järjestivät lasten huoltajuuden eron jälkeen, ja onko elatusmaksuihin liittynyt ongelmia. Lasten suhdetta poissaolevaan vanhempaan arvioitiin. Perheeseen liittyen vastaajilta tiedusteltiin vielä, minkälainen naisen ja miehen välinen työnjako olisi ihanteellinen ja onko työnjaosta aiheutunut parisuhteessa ongelmia. Työn merkitystä ja tavoitteita työuralla selvitettiin. Vastaajalta tiedusteltiin, kuuluuko hänen työhönsä johtamista ja kuinka monta alaista hänellä on. Työhön liittyviä paineita kartoitettiin erilaisten väitteiden avulla. Vastaaja arvioi, kuinka paljon hän voi vaikuttaa työssään mm. työtehtäviinsä, työtahtiin ja siihen, keiden kanssa työskentelee. Edelleen selvitettiin esimerkiksi työn vaatimaa luovuutta, työn monipuolisuutta, psyykkistä rasittavuutta sekä oman ja puolison työn epävarmuustekijöitä. Työttömyydestä pyydettiin kertomaan ja arvioimaan, miten se on vaikuttanut esim. perhe-elämään. Työn ja perheen vuorovaikutukseen liittyen vastaajilta tiedusteltiin, miten kouluikäisten lasten kouluun lähteminen on aamulla järjestynyt ja miten iltapäivät ovat kuluneet. Edelleen vastaaja arvioi, tunteeko hän nykyisin stressiä ja missä määrin stressi johtuu työstä, perhe- tai kotiasioista. Lopuksi haastattelussa keskusteltiin vastaajan suhteesta vanhempiinsa sekä mahdolliseen äiti- tai isäpuoleen. Äidin ja isän suhteen kysyttiin erikseen, miten kaukana he asuvat, miten vastaaja tulee toimeen heidän kanssaan ja miten samanlaisia ovat vastaajan ja hänen vanhempiensa mielipiteet ja arvot. Vastaaja kertoi, saako hän vanhemmiltaan esim. taloudellista tai henkistä tukea ja antaako itse tukea vanhemmilleen. Avuntarpeen kuormittavuutta pyydettiin kuvaamaan. Vastaaja kertoi myös isovanhempien ja lastenlasten suhteen läheisyydestä ja tapaamisten tiheydestä. Viimeisenä vastaajat pohtivat suhdetta äitiinsä ja arvioivat esimerkiksi suhteen läheisyyttä sekä suhteen miellyttävyyttä. Taustamuuttujana on vastaajan sukupuoli."

The JYLS data are still in active use by the original research team and other users need their permission to gain access. The research team decides whether to grant access to the data or not on a case-by-case basis. In practice, the data are generally used in cooperation with researchers from the research team. The JYLS data have a special access application procedure that differs from the procedure normally used for data archived at the FSD. The application procedure has two stages: In the first stage, the data archive reviews the application, ensuring that the proposed purpose of use is in line with the above mentioned principles. If approved, the archive sends the applicant the documents, which include, for example, questionnaires, variable lists and frequencies. In the second stage, the applicant produces a detailed research plan specifying the variables needed, using the documents to identify them. The applicant sends this research plan directly to the director of the research team, Dr. Katja Kokko (katja.r.kokko@jyu.fi) If the application and research plan are approved, the research team sends the data directly to the applicant.",

Aineistoa on mahdollista saada tutkimuskäyttöön, esimerkiksi väitöskirjatöihin ja kansainvälisiä julkaisuja varten. At this research stage, data were collected using peer nominations and teacher ratings (FSD2073), a theme interview (FSD2305), and a parent interview. This dataset contains the transcribed responses to the questions presented in the parent interview. No predetermined response categories were used. The recorded interviews were classified only afterwards, when it was possible to observe the whole range of responses. The interviewed parents told about their 14-year-old by answering questions on family relations, school and education, housing, identity, use of alcohol and smoking, free time activities, and hobbies, to name a few. The dataset is available only in Finnish.",
"fi": "Haastattelu on osa Lapsesta aikuiseksi -tutkimusta, joka on jatkunut samojen henkilöiden seurantana yli 30 vuotta. Tämän tutkimusvaiheen tarkoituksena oli selvittää 14-vuotiaiden sosiaalista käyttäytymistä ja kasvuoloja. Tutkimusvaiheeseen kuuluivat myös toveri- ja opettaja-arvioinnit (FSD2073) sekä tutkimushenkilöiden omat haastattelut (FSD2305). Vanhempien teemahaastatteluissa käsiteltiin mm. perhettä, asuntoa ja asuinympäristöä, koulunkäyntiä, päihteiden käyttöä, vapaa-ajanviettoa ja harrastuksia. Valmiita vastausluokkia ei käytetty. Nauhoitetut haastattelut luokiteltiin vasta jälkikäteen, kun nähtiin, minkälaista vaihtelua vastauksissa esiintyi. Ensin tiedusteltiin nuoren asumisoloja ja kysyttiin, keitä perheeseen kuuluu tai on kuulunut, miten hänen päivähoitonsa oli pienenä järjestetty ja onko perheessä ollut apulaisia. Asunnon kokoa ja mielipidettä asuinympäristöstä selvitettiin. Koulunkäyntiin liittyen tiedusteltiin, menestyykö nuori koulussa ja mistä aineista pitää eniten. Haastateltavat kertoivat, ovatko he vaihtaneet asuinpaikkaansa/koulua ja miten se on vaikuttanut perheen elämään. Vanhempien suhtautumista lapsen koulumenestykseen pyydettiin arvioimaan. Koulupinnauksesta esitettiin myös kysymyksiä. Edelleen selvitettiin, miten vanhemmat suhtautuvat koulutyöhön ja kertooko nuori kotona koulun tapahtumista. Nuoren kavereista, suunnitelmista peruskoulun jälkeen sekä vanhempien suhtautumisesta kavereiden valintaan ja seurusteluun kyseltiin. Niin ikään vanhempien antamia ohjeita väkivallan ja tappelemisen suhteen. Vanhempia pyydettiin kertomaan heidän työstään ja terveydestään. Perheen ilmapiiriä kartoitettiin myös kysymällä, puuhasteleeko nuori jotain yhdessä vanhempien kanssa, syökö perhe ilta-ateriaa yhdessä ja onko isä tai äiti paljon poissa kotoa iltaisin. Lisäksi haastateltavat kertoivat, miten usein heillä on erimielisyyksiä, miten tottelemattomuudesta rankaistaan ja tietävätkö he missä ja kenen kanssa nuori viettää vapaa-aikaansa. Edelleen kyseltiin, mitä nuori harrastaa, onko hänellä kotiintuloaikoja ja mistä hän saa käyttörahansa. Tupakoinnista ja alkoholinkäytöstä esitettiin kysymyksiä."

The JYLS data are still in active use by the original research team and other users need their permission to gain access. The application procedure has two stages: In the first stage, the data archive reviews the application, ensuring that the proposed purpose of use is in line with the above mentioned principles. If approved, the archive sends the applicant the documents, which include, for example, questionnaires, variable lists and frequencies. In the second stage, the applicant produces a detailed research plan specifying the variables needed, using the documents to identify them. Käsiteltyjä aiheita olivat nykyinen perhe, suhde vanhempiin ja vanhempien antama kasvatus, itsenäistyminen, suhde ikätovereihin ja vastakkaiseen sukupuoleen, päihteiden käyttö, koulutus ja tulevaisuuden odotukset. Aineistoon on luokiteltu tutkittavien vastaukset teemoittain. Paikoitellen vastaukset on kirjattu sellaisinaan, paikoitellen niitä on tiivistetty. Vastaukset on lisäksi koodattu SPSS-tiedostoksi aineistossa \"FSD2125 Lapsesta aikuiseksi: 20-vuotiaiden haastattelu 1980\". Tutkimusvaiheeseen kuuluu myös 20-vuotiaiden itsearvioinnit ja vapaa-aikakysely. Ensin vastaajalta kyseltiin primaariperheeseen liittyviä asioita, asumista, perheen kokoa sekä vanhempien ja sisarusten ikää. Asunto-olojen vakaisuutta ja viimeisen muuton syytä, sekä vanhempien työssäkäyntiä ja työaikaa tiedusteltiin. Edelleen esitettiin kysymyksiä päivähoidosta, perheen taloudellisesta tilanteesta ja perheenjäsenten terveydestä. Suhdetta vanhempiin kartoitettiin kysymällä esimerkiksi, minkä verran vastaaja keskustelee vanhempiensa kanssa, luottavatko vanhemmat häneen ja saako vastaaja vanhemmiltaan tukea ja ohjausta. Lisäksi vastaaja arvioi vanhempiensa keskinäistä suhdetta sekä omaa suhdettaan muihin perheenjäseniin ja sukulaisiin. Nuoren itsenäistymistä selvitettiin kysymällä, miten hän kokee kotona tai muualla asumisen, saako vanhemmiltaan taloudellista tukea ja vaikuttavatko vanhemmat vastaajan päätöksiin. Edelleen kysyttiin, mitä hän nykyisin pääasiallisesti tekee, milloin on muuttanut kotoa pois ja kuinka usein pitää yhteyttä kotiin. Suhdetta ikätovereihin selvitettiin kysymällä, kuinka monta ystävää vastaajalla on sekä kuinka pitkäaikaisia ja läheisiä ystävyyssuhteet ovat. Tupakoinnin, alkoholin ja huumeiden käytöstä sekä vapaa-ajanvietosta kyseltiin. Niin ikään kysyttiin mielipidettä esiaviollisesta seksistä ja avioliitosta. Koulutuksen osalta selvitettiin vastaajan peruskoulun jälkeistä tilannetta ja ammatinvalintaa. Tyytyväisyyttä omaan opintomenetykseen ja valintoihin pyydettiin arvioimaan. Työssäkäyviltä kysyttiin koulutuksen ja työn vastaavuutta ja työttömiltä työttömyyden kestoa ja vaikutusta mielialaan. Lisäksi selvitettiin armeijan käymistä ja suhtautumista tulevaisuuteen. Edelleen vastaajaa pyydettiin kertomaan, onko hänellä mielestään joitakin velvollisuuksia yhteiskuntaa kohtaan ja onko yhteiskunnan tuki nuorille riittävää. Seuraavaksi tiedusteltiin nuoren kasvatuksesta. Vastaaja kertoi, kuinka hyvin vanhemmat olivat perillä hänen vapaa-ajanvietostaan ja onko heillä käytetty ruumiillista kuritusta. Edelleen hän arvioi, oliko vanhemmilla riittävästi aikaa hänelle lapsena, otettiinko häntä huomioon päätöksenteossa ja perustelivatko vanhemmat antamiaan sääntöjä. Lopuksi kartoitettiin vastaajan minäkuvaa, tyytyväisyyttä itseen ja vanhempien vaikutusta minäkuvan muodostumiseen."

The Erzya corpus contains a historical word list of Erzya Mordvin documented in 1785. The list of words was transliterated, compiled, and edited by Dennis Estill.\n\n2. The Moksha Mordvin corpus contains a historical word list of Moksha Mordvin documented in 1785. The list of words was transliterated, compiled, and edited by Dennis Estill.\n\nThe Erzya and Moksha Mordvin Word Lists contain approx. 23,500 words in Erzya and 300 words in Moksha collected at the initiative of Catherine the Great under the direction of Bishop Damaskin and recorded in 1785. Two copies of the manuscripts are extant, the so-called black version for Catherine now preserved in St Petersburg, and the white version at present kept in Nyizhnyi Novgorod. These manuscripts were published in 1971 by A. P. Feoktistov in \"Russko-mordovskiy slovar, Iz istorii otechestvennoy leksikografii, Izdatelstvo Nauka, Moskva. (Dennis Estill 1999). Feoktistov, A. P. Suomalais-Ugrilainen Seura. Helsinki 1949.\n\nThe texts included in the Chuvash Corpus have been analysed and coded morphologically as well as translated into English and German. The corpus was created by André Hesselbäck during the project ‘Endangered Finno-Ugric languages Database’ and submitted to the University of Helsinki Department of General Linguistics for research use.\n\nThe Chuvash Corpus is a part of the Multilingual Resource Collection of the UHLCS.\n\nUHLCS has many different IPR holders.
