"en": "This dataset consists of interviews with employees and entrepreneurs in the private sports and physical activity sector in Finland. The data were collected as part of the Uuden työn sukupuolistavat käytännöt ja sopimisen muodot project (2016-2018), funded by the Finnish Work Environment Fund.\r\n\r\nFirst, the entrepreneurs were asked about the history, current state, branding, and prospects of their company. The employees were asked about their daily work routines and experiences of success or failure at work. All interviewees also discussed relationships with clients, agreements and contracts, and the significance of physicality and personality in their work. Interview questions also focused on gender-related matters, both in terms of employees and clients. Different interview schemes were used for interviews with employees and entrepreneurs.\r\n\r\nBackground information included the date on which the interview was held, the respondent's gender and occupation, and a fictitious name for the respondent's workplace/company. The data were organised into an easy to use HTML version at FSD."

"en": "The dataset consists of 12 interviews with early childhood education teachers who work in forest nursery groups on their views on and experiences of their jobs and occupational well-being. The interviews were conducted virtually on the Microsoft Teams platform.\r\n\r\nThe interviews consisted of questions that charted the interviewees' work in forest- and nature-oriented early childhood education groups. In forest nursery groups, most of the teaching as well as other nursery activities take place in nature. The interviewees were asked what had led them to work in a forest nursery group, what nature was like as a working environment, and how the natural environment impacted the workplace community. Additionally, the interview included questions on how working in a forest nursery group impacted occupational well-being and how the interviewees' utilised their skills as early childhood educators in the natural environment.\r\n\r\nBackground information included the date on which the interview was held, the interviewee's age group, gender, education, general work experience, and work experience in forest nursery groups. The data were organised into an easy to use HTML version at FSD."

"en": "Aineisto perustuu Twitteriä työssään käyttäville diplomaateille suunnattuun kyselyyn. Kyselyyn vastasi 108 islantilaista, ruotsalaista, suomalaista, tanskalaista ja virolaista diplomaattia. Kyselyssä kartoitettiin suurlähetystöissä työskentelevien diplomaattien käsityksiä omasta vuorovaikutusosallisuudestaan Twitterissä sekä heidän aktiivisuuttaan twiittaamisen, uudelleentwiittaamisen, tykkäämisen sekä muiden käyttäjien ja uutisten seuraamisen suhteen. Vastaajia pyydettiin myös arvioimaan, miten hyvin heidän oma Twitterin käyttönsä täyttää sille asetetut tavoitteet ja mitä hyötyä Twitter-viestinnästä on heidän edustamansa valtion kannalta. Kysely perustuu suurelta osin kahden tutkimusmittarin käyttöön. Vuorovaikutusosallisuutta mitattiin 18-osaisella Interaction Involvement Scale:lla, jonka sanoitusta muokattiin Twitter-viestintään sopivaksi. Twitter-viestinnän hyötyjä mitattiin 10-osaisella Public Relations Value Assessment -tutkimusmittarilla, jota myös muokattiin kontekstiin sopivaksi. Taustamuuttujina aineistossa ovat vastaajan toimipaikka (maantieteellinen alue) sekä tehtävä ja asema omassa suurlähetystössä."

"en": "The study charted the background and motives of Finnish and Swedish speaking election candidates as well as their networks and support for standing for the election.\r\n\r\nFirst, reasons behind the decision to stand for election in the municipal elections (e.g. the will to help others, to acquire useful skills for work, to implement the political values of their party) and what or who (e.g. friends, trade union, employer) had encouraged the candidates to stand for election were charted. The respondents' political opinions and ideology were examined with attitudinal statements regarding the direction of Finland's future, such as lower taxation or more environmentally friendly policies. Influences behind the respondents' political opinions were also examined (e.g. how important their friends, spouse or the media were in influencing their opinions). The respondents were asked whose representative they thought they would be as local councillors (e.g. those who had voted for them or all residents of the municipality), their satisfaction in democracy in Finland and their municipality as well as trust in various institutions (e.g. current local councillors, Finland's government).\r\n\r\nThe respondents' political campaign was surveyed with questions concerning, for example, how much time and money they had spent on the campaign and how the funding had been spent (e.g. for campaign videos or radio/TV advertising). The respondents were asked whether they had stood for election in various different elections before, whether they had been selected in those elections and how many times. The factors behind them being chosen as a candidate of a party or constituency association (e.g. professional experience, position within the party, extensive local network of acquaintances) were examined. The respondents were also asked whether they currently held or had previously held positions of trust in their municipality of residence or participated in the work of different organisations. Finally, the help and support the respondents received from their family, friends or acquaintances in different aspects of their political campaign (e.g. coordinating schedule and budget, maintaining social media accounts, emotional support) was charted.\r\n\r\nBackground variables included, among others, the respondent's gender, age, level of education, marital status, household composition, length of residence in the municipality of candidacy, type of municipality, occupational status, trade union membership, left-right political self-placement, income, perceived social class and religious affiliation."

Pandemian aikana monilta kulttuurialan työntekijöiltä työt vähenivät tai loppuivat kokonaan. Kirjoituskutsulla pyrittiin keräämään kirjoituksia selviämisestä poikkeuksellisena pandemia-aikana. Aineistonkeruu ajoittui koronapandemian ensimmäiseen aaltoon ja sen jälkeisiin kuukausiin. Kirjoituskutsussa vastaajia pyydettiin apukysymysten avulla kirjoittamaan esimerkiksi siitä, miten epidemiaan liittyvä poikkeustilanne vaikutti työn suunnittelemiseen, työtehtäviin ja työhön käytettävään aikaan. Lisäksi pyydettiin kirjoittamaan siitä, millaista tukea vastaaja sai työpaikallaan tai työhön liittyvässä yhteisössään ja verkostossaan. Vastaajilta kysyttiin myös muun muassa heidän työhön liittämistä merkityksistä sekä tulevaisuudennäkymistä. Taustatietona kysyttiin sukupuolta, ikää, työskentelyalaa sekä työtilannetta. Aineistosta on tehty jatkokäyttäjälle html-versio, jonka hakemiston avulla kirjoituksia on helppo selata."

"en": "The dataset consists of writings by Petäjävesi residents regarding the 2019 water crisis, which was caused by groundwater contamination. For several weeks during the crisis, the use of tap water for domestic consumption was either completely prohibited or heavily controlled in some areas of Petäjävesi.\r\n\r\nThe participants were asked to describe how the water crisis had affected their lives and the lives of people close to them. The themes provided to guide the writing included, for example, how the participants had reduced their water consumption and whether any particular experiences had stuck in the participants' minds relating to the water crisis.\r\n\r\nThe data were collected as part of the Eco-welfare project of the Academy of Finland.\r\n\r\nBackground information included gender, age group, family status, and employment status. The data were organised into an easy to use HTML version at FSD."

"en": "This survey charted the gambling, social media usage and subjective well-being of young people aged 15-30 years in Finland. The study was conducted as part of the \"Problem Gambling and Social Media: Social Psychological Study on Youth Behavior in Online Gaming Communities\" research project. The aim of the project was to analyse how young social media users assess, adopt and share gambling-related online content and how online group processes affect their gambling and gambling-related attitudes. The project was funded by the Finnish Foundation for Alcohol Studies (2017-2019). This dataset contains additional data collected from popular Finnish social media sites. First, the respondents were asked which social media services they used (e.g. Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, discussion forums, online casinos) and how often. Topics that the respondents discussed on gambling-related social media were charted more closely, and they were asked, for example, whether the discussion usually related to instructions or tips on gambling or to problem gambling and recovering from problem gambling. Some questions on the respondents' social media activity were also presented, for instance, how often they saw gambling-related advertising online, how often they changed their most important social media passwords, and how often they uploaded pictures of themselves on social media. The respondents were asked whether they had ever been harassed online or had been the victim of a crime on the Internet in the past three years (e.g. defamation, identity theft, fraud, sexual harassment). The respondents' identity bubbles on social media were surveyed by using the IBR scale (Identity Bubble Reinforcement Scale). The respondents were asked, for instance, whether they thought they could be themselves on social media and whether they only interacted with people similar to them on social media. Additionally, the CIUS scale (Compulsive Internet Use) was used to examine problems related to Internet use. Questions focused on, for example, whether the respondents found it difficult to stop using the Internet when they were online, whether people close to them said they should use the Internet less, and whether they felt restless, frustrated or irritated when they couldn't use the Internet. In the next section of the questionnaire, the respondents were randomly assigned to two groups for a vignette experiment. Respondents in the test group were told they belong to Group C because they had answered the earlier questions in a similar manner to others in the group. Those in the control group were given no information on the group. The respondents were presented with different gambling-related social media scenarios, and they were asked to evaluate the contents of the gambling-related messages by \"liking\" or \"disliking\" the message or by not reacting to it at all. Each respondent was shown four different gambling messages with different contents. Three factors were manipulated in the scenarios (2x2x2 design): expressed stance of the message on gambling (positive or negative), narrative perspective of the message (experience-driven first-person narration or fact-driven third-person narration) and majority opinion of other respondents on the message (positively or negatively biased distribution of likes or dislikes). For Group C, the majority opinion was seemingly provided by other Group C members, whereas for the control group the majority opinion was seemingly provided by other respondents. Additionally, the respondents' attitudes towards the message were surveyed with statements regarding, for instance, how likely they would find the message interesting or share it on social media. Next, the respondents' attitudes towards gambling were charted by using the ATGS scale (Attitudes Towards Gambling Scale). They were asked, for example, whether people should have the right to gamble whenever they want, whether most people who gamble do so sensibly and whether it would be better if gambling was banned altogether. The respondents' gambling habits were examined by using the SOGS scale (South Oaks Gambling Screen), and they were asked, for instance, which types of gambling they had done in the past 12 months (played slot machines, visited an online casino, bet on lotteries etc.), whether the people close to them had gambling problems, and whether they had borrowed money to gamble or to pay gambling debts. In addition, the respondents' alcohol consumption was surveyed with a few questions from the AUDITC scale (The Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test), and they were asked whether they had used various drugs for recreational purposes (e.g. cannabis, LSD, amphetamine, opioids). The respondents' subjective well-being and social relationships were examined next. The respondents were asked how happy they were in general and how satisfied they were with their financial circumstances and life in general. They were also asked how well the single statement \"I have high self-esteem\" from the SISE scale (Single-item Self-esteem Scale) described them. The three statements on lacking companionship, feeling left out and feeling isolated from the LONE scale (Three-item Loneliness Scale) were also included in the survey. Feelings of belonging to different groups or communities (e.g. family, friends, neighbourhood, parish/religious community) were charted, and the 12-item GHQ scale (General Health Questionnaire) was used to survey the respondents' recent mental health. Questions included, for example, whether the respondents had been able to concentrate on what they were doing, had felt they couldn't overcome their difficulties, and had been losing confidence in themselves. Finally, the respondents' sense of control over the events in their lives was examined with the MASTERY scale (Sense of Mastery Scale), with questions focusing on, for instance, whether they thought they had little control over the things that happen to them and whether they often felt helpless in dealing with the problems of life. The respondents' impulsivity was surveyed by using the EIS scale (Eysenck Impulsivity Scale) and their willingness to delay gratification was surveyed with the GRATIF scale (Delay of Gratification). Background variables included the respondent's gender, age, country of birth (own and parents') level of education, type of municipality of residence, number of inhabitants in municipality of residence, household composition, disposable income, possible financial problems, and economic activity and occupational status."

Tiedusteltiin halukkuudesta maksaa korkeampia veroja kaikkien suomalaisten terveydenhoidon parantamiseksi sekä pyydettiin mielipidettä joidenkin terveydenhoitoon liittyvien asioiden rahoittamisesta julkisin varoin.\r\n\r\nVastaajilta kysyttiin myös, ovatko he käyttäneet internetiä terveyteen ja hyvinvointin liittyvään tiedonhakuun. Kysyttiin myös vastaajien kokemia terveysongelmia viimeisten neljän viikon ajalta sekä kuinka usein vastaaja on käynyt lääkärin tai vaihtoehtohoitoa tarjoavan henkilön vastaanotolla viimeksi kuluneiden 12 kuukauden aikana. Lisäksi samalta aikajaksolta haluttiin tietää, onko vastaaja jäänyt ilman tarvitsemaansa hoitoa ja kuinka todennäköisesti vastaaja saisi vakavaan sairauteen parasta mahdollista hoitoa haluamaltaan lääkäriltä.\r\n\r\nKysyttiin myös tyytyväisyydestä Suomen terveydenhoitojärjestelmään yleensä sekä viimeksi saatuun hoitoon lääkärissä tai vaihtoehtohoidossa. Vastaajilta kysyttiin lisäksi tupakoinnista, liikunnasta, alkoholin nauttimisesta sekä hedelmien ja kasvisten syönnistä. Vastaajilta pyydettiin myös arviota omasta terveydentilasta ja kysyttiin, onko vastaajalla jokin pitkäaikaissairaus. Lopuksi tiedusteltiin vastaajan mielipidettä siihen, miten koronapandemiaa on hoidettu Suomessa, ja miten pandemia on vaikuttanut vastaajan ja hänen kotitaloutensa työllisyyteen ja taloudelliseen tilanteeseen.\r\n\r\nTaustamuuttujia olivat muun muassa sukupuoli, ikä, siviilisääty, koulutustaso ja koulutuksen pituus, nykyinen työmarkkina-asema, puolison nykyinen työmarkkina-asema, vastaajan ja puolison ammatti sekä perheen ja vastaajan tulot."

"en": "Aineisto kartoittaa yhdysvaltalaisnuorten rahapelaamista, sosiaalisen median käyttöä ja yleistä subjektiivista hyvinvointia. Aineisto kerättiin osana Atte Oksasen johtamaa tutkimushanketta Rahapeliongelmat ja verkkoyhteisöt: Sosiaalipsykologinen tutkimus nuorten toiminnasta sosiaalisen median peliyhteisöissä (Problem Gambling and Social Media: Social Psychological Study on Youth Behavior in Online Gaming Communities). Hankkeessa tutkitaan, kuinka nuoret käyttäjät arvioivat, omaksuvat ja jakavat sosiaalisessa mediassa rahapelaamiseen liittyviä verkkosisältöjä ja kuinka ryhmäprosessit vaikuttavat heidän rahapelaamiseensa ja sitä koskeviin asenteisiin. Tietoarkistoon on tallennettu myös hankkeessa lähes vastaavalla kyselylomakkeella kerätyt Suomen aineistot (FSD3399 ja FSD3400). Hankkeen aineistoja on kerätty myös Espanjassa ja Etelä-Koreassa. Vastaajilta kysyttiin, mitä sosiaalisen median palveluita he käyttävät, sekä heidän yleisiä sosiaalisen median käyttötottumuksiaan. Heiltä kysyttiin myös riskikokemuksista netissä, kuten nettihäirinnän ja nettirikoksen uhriksi joutumisesta. Kyselyn seuraavassa osiossa vastaajat jaettiin satunnaisesti neljään ryhmään vignette-koeasetelmaa varten. Kahdelle ryhmälle kerrottiin, että heidät oli sijoitettu ryhmään C, koska heidän vastauksensa olivat lähellä ryhmän muiden jäsenten vastauksia. Kahdelle kontrolliryhmälle ei annettu ryhmätietoa. Vastaajille näytettiin erilaisia kuvitteellisia sosiaalisen median rahapeliaiheisia skenaarioita, ja heitä pyydettiin arvioimaan rahapeliaiheisten viestien sisältöä. Vastaajia pyydettiin reagoimaan viestiin joko \"tykkäämällä\", \"ei-tykkäämällä\" tai olemalla reagoimatta lainkaan. Jokaiselle vastaajalle näytettiin neljä erilaista skenaariota, joiden sisältö vaihteli. Skenaarioissa varioitiin kolmea asiaa (2x2x2): viestin suhtautuminen rahapelaamiseen (myönteinen tai kielteinen), viestin narratiivinen sävy (kokemuspohjainen tai tutkimustietoon perustuva fakta), sekä muiden vastaajien aiemmat reaktiot kyseiseen viestiin (pääosin myönteinen tai kielteinen suhtautuminen). Ryhmään C-kuuluville muiden reaktiot esitettiin samaan ryhmään kuuluvien vastaajien reaktioina, kontrolliryhmille muiden kyselyyn vastaajien reaktioina. Lisäksi vastaajia pyydettiin arvioimaan suhtautumistaan viestin sisältöön kysymällä esimerkiksi, kuinka todennäköisesti hän pitäisi kyseistä viestiä kiinnostavana tai hakeutuisi vastaavan sisällön pariin tulevaisuudessa. Vastaajilta kysyttiin heidän rahapelaamisensa laajuudesta, rahapelaamiseen liittyvistä mahdollisista ongelmista sekä rahapelaamiseen liittyvistä asenteista. Päihde- ja addiktio-ongelmia kartoitettiin kysymällä vastaajilta heidän huumeiden käytöstään sekä alkoholin ja Internetin ongelmakäytöstä. Kysymykset käsittelivät myös vastaajien subjektiivista hyvinvointia ja sosiaalisia suhteita. Vastaajilta kysyttiin muiden muassa psyykkisestä kuormittuneisuudesta, koetusta itsetunnosta sekä onnellisuuden tasosta. Lisäksi kartoitettiin vastaajien sosiaaliset vuorovaikutussuhteet ja läheisiltä saatu sosiaalinen tuki. Kysymykset koskivat yleisesti sosiaalisia suhteita, ystävyyssuhteita, kiinnittymistä erilaisiin yhteisöihin sekä koettua yksinäisyyden tunnetta. Lopuksi kysyttiin vastaajien kokemasta elämänhallinnan tunteesta sekä kartoitettiin impulsiivisuutta ja lyhytjänteisyyttä muun muassa palkintoviiveeseen liittyvillä kysymyksillä. Samasta hankkeesta on arkistoitu myös kaksi muuta aineistoa: FSD3686 TE-palvelujärjestelmän toiminta: työnhakijakysely 2021 ja FSD3688 TE-palvelujärjestelmän toiminta: asiantuntijatyöntekijöiden kysely 2021. Kysely koostuu lähinnä avokysymyksistä. Aineisto sisältää työnantajien näkemyksiä osa-aikeisen ja tilapäisen työvoiman rekrytoinnista sekä siitä, miten työsopimuslaissa määritelty lisätyön tarjoamisvelvollisuus on vaikuttanut rekrytointikäytäntöihin. Lisäksi työnantajat arvioivat, miten lisätyön tarjoamisvelvollisuus jo työssä oleville osa-aikatyöntekijöille toimii työnantajaorganisaatioiden näkökulmasta. Kysymykset käsittelivät myös työnantajien yhteistyötä TE-palveluiden kanssa koskien osa-aikatyöntekijöiden rekrytointia. Taustamuuttujia aineistossa ovat vastaajan työnantajaorganisaation toimiala, vastaajan asema organisaatiossa sekä organisaation henkilöstömäärä."

"en": "Aineisto koostuu lapsuuden aikaisia pelkoja kuvaavista kirjoituksista. Aineisto kerättiin kirjoituskutsulla, jossa vastaajia pyydettiin kertomaan lapsuuden ajan peloistaan sekä erityisesti paikoista, joihin pelot liittyivät. Aineisto kerättiin osana kahta tutkimushanketta, joissa tutkitaan lasten turvattomuuden käsittelyn tapoja ja mahdollisuuksia (rahoittaja Suomen Akatemia), sekä vertaissuhteiden merkitystä lasten elämässä (rahoittaja Koneen Säätiö). Keruukutsulla pyrittiin keräämään muistoja lapsuuden paikoista, joissa vastaaja muistaa kokeneensa pelkoa ja jännitystä joko tahtomatta tai tarkoituksella. Vastaajia pyydettiin myös kertomaan tavoista, joilla hän pyrki elämään pelottavien paikkojen ja tilanteiden kanssa. Keruukutsussa vastaajalle annettiin kirjoittamisen helpottamiseksi apukysymyksiä, joissa tarjottiin pohdittavaksi muutamia valmiita teemoja. Näissä kirjoittamista ohjaavissa apukysymyksissä kysyttiin esimerkiksi sitä, muuttivatko pelot liikkumista ja joutuiko vastaaja välttelemään tiettyjä paikkoja, varoiteltiinko tai peloteltiinko vastaajaa lapsena joistakin tietyistä paikoista, ja hakiko vastaaja tarkoituksella jännitystä ja pelkoa elämäänsä. Lisäksi ohjaavien apukysymysten avulla tarjottiin mahdollisuutta pohtia sitä, vaikuttiko sukupuoli vastaajan mielestä hänen kokemuksiinsa. Taustatietona kysyttiin sukupuolta, ikäryhmää sekä lapsuuden aikaisen asuinpaikan tyyppiä. Arkistoinnin yhteydessä taustatiedoista tuotettiin erillinen html-hakemisto, jonka avulla aineistoa on helppo selata."

"en": "This study charted Finnish community sanctions clients' situation in life and alcohol and drug use. Main themes included the problems that arose from the respondents' substance use, their motivation to stop using substances, and their use of social services. Additionally, the data include evaluations of client meeting discussions between community sanctions office employees and clients. The data were collected as part of a research project on the adherence of motivational interviewing in the initial substance abuse setting and its effect on clients' substance abuse harm reduction (the MISA project), funded by the Academy of Finland, Criminal Sanctions Agency and Finnish Foundation for Alcohol Studies.\r\n\r\nThe data consist of a pre-treatment survey, evaluations of counselling session discussions by both the counsellor and the client, post-treatment surveys, and background information surveys for both the client and the employee. The pre-treatment survey, evaluations and background information surveys were completed during the counselling sessions, and the post-treatment surveys were completed as phone interviews six and twelve months after treatment. This dataset can be connected to the qualitative dataset FSD3370 Substance Abuse Treatment in Community Sanctions Offices: Client Meetings 2007-2009, which consists of transcriptions of the counselling session discussions. The respondents in the two datasets can be connected with a unique client number. The qualitative dataset is only available in Finnish.\r\n\r\nThe pre- and post-treatment surveys were nearly identical. First, the clients' situation in life and use of alcohol in the past six months were surveyed with questions from the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT). The questions focused on, for example, how often the respondents consumed alcohol, how often they had not been able to stop drinking once they had started, how often they had felt guilt or remorse after drinking, and whether they had felt that their drinking had effected their social relationships negatively. The respondents' substance use was examined with questions regarding which substances they used and which substance was their principal opiate, i.e. for which opiate they were currently receiving treatment. Further questions on substance use were included from the Severity of Dependence Scale (SDS), for example, whether the respondents thought the use of their principal opiate was out of control and whether they wished they could stop using the opiate.\r\n\r\nNext, the pre-treatment survey charted the respondents' personal objectives regarding their substance use. The respondents were asked, for example, whether their objective was to achieve total abstinence or reduce their use of substances, or whether they though there was no need to change their substance use. Additionally, they were asked how sure they were that they would succeed in achieving their objective. Both the pre- and post-treatment surveys charted whether the respondents had any other addictions in addition to substances (e.g. a gambling, sex, or internet addiction). Finally, the treatment the respondents had received was examined in both surveys with questions on, for example, how many treatment periods they had received for substance use, whether they had received treatment for their substance use in the past six months, and whether they been on any medication to control their substance use in the past three months. They were also asked whether they had found the Behaviour-Interviewing-Change (BIC) program, which was utilised during the client meetings, useful for their substance abuse rehabilitation.\r\n\r\nFor the evaluations of the counselling session discussions, the counsellors and clients were asked to evaluate different aspects of the discussion on a scale from 1 to 5. Both the clients and counsellors were asked, for example, whether they though the discussion had been good or bad, difficult or easy, useful or useless, or significant or insignificant. The client's perception of the attitude of the counsellor was charted with questions on, for example, whether the client thought the counsellor was judgemental or accepting, or unkind or kind. The counsellor's perception of the client's attitude was examined with questions regarding, for example, how much emotion the counsellor thought the client expressed and whether the client was willing or unwilling to work together with the counsellor during the discussion. Finally, the clients were asked to evaluate their own preparedness to stop or reduce substance use, and the counsellors were asked to evaluate whether the client had a strong will to change their behaviour and whether they were likely to continue treatment and reduce or stop substance use.\r\n\r\nIn the background information surveys, additional information on the BIC program and the progress of the client meeting discussions was collected. Additionally, the counsellor's previous experiences of substance abuse care and the BIC program were charted. Background variables included, among others, the client's and counsellor's gender, marital status and level of education."

"en": "The survey charted Finnish job seekers' views on public employment and business services in three regions of Finland. The survey was conducted as part of a research project examining how public employment and business services made a difference in finding part-time or full-time employment. FSD holdings contain two related datasets: FSD3687 Public Employment and Business Services in Finland: Survey for Employers 2021 and FSD3688 Public Employment and Business Services in Finland: Survey for Experts in TE Offices and Local Government 2021.\r\n\r\nFirst, the respondents were asked which employment and business services they had used during unemployment or when looking for a job, and whether they had received any job offers from the TE Office for part-time or temporary work. Part-time or temporary work not offered by the TE Office that the respondents had done between job seeking periods was also surveyed. Further questions examined whether the respondents had received adjusted unemployment benefit when working part-time or temporarily and whether they had continued searching for a job while in part-time or temporary work. The respondents were asked whether they had received help from the employment and business services with finding full-time employment while being employed part-time, or whether their employer had offered them more working hours or a full-time employment contract. Questions also surveyed whether the respondents knew about or had used the incomes register.\r\n\r\nBackground variables included the respondent's age group, TE Office region, level of education, gender, mother tongue, and occupation before unemployment."

"en": "The study charted views and notions of violence in Finland. The interview participants shared their opinions on safety in their neighbourhood and Finland in general. They were also asked where they searched for and received information on violent crime and which media sources they considered reliable.\r\n\r\nFour focus groups were formed with the goal of having as different media users as possible: people involved in harness racing, elderly women's arts and crafts club, young men working for the Defence Forces and 20-year-old university students. The study also examined the effect of the group's age and gender distribution on the fear of violence and the discussion about it. Group size varied from three to eleven participants, and there were 24 participants in total. The data contain transcribed group interviews and they were collected as a part of a project entitled 'Views of Violence in a Changing Media Landscape', funded by the Helsingin Sanomat Foundation (grant ID: 201600122)."

"en": "Aineisto koostuu kirjoituksista, joissa vastaajat käsittelevät mahdollisia syitä olla hakematta luokanopettajankoulutukseen. Vastaajat ovat ensimmäisen vuoden luokanopettajaopiskelijoita ja vastauksia kerättiin kahdessa eri yliopistossa ensimmäisen vuoden opiskelijoille suunnatuilla luennoilla. Kirjoitusohjeessa vastaajia pyydettiin pohtimaan, olivatko he miettineet vaihtoehtoa, etteivät olisikaan hakeneet luokanopettajankoulutukseen. Lisäksi tiedusteltiin millaisia syitä vastaajilla olisi ollut jättää hakematta koulutukseen sekä tarkemmin miksi kyseiset syyt olisivat voineet saada vastaajat luopumaan koulutuksesta. Kirjoittajilta kerättiin taustatietona sukupuoli. Aineistosta on tehty html-versio, jonka hakemiston avulla kirjoituksia on helppo selata.\r\n\r\nAineisto on käytettävissä vain tutkimukseen ja ylempiin opinnäytteisiin (esim. väitöstutkimukseen, pro graduun ja ylemmän AMK-tutkinnon opinnäytetyöhön). Aineistoa ei saa käyttää opetukseen, opiskeluun (esim. harjoitustöihin) tai alempiin opinnäytteisiin."

The respondents were asked whether they had offered unemployed job seekers part-time or temporary employment, how job seekers had reacted to these offers, and how unemployed job seekers could be further encouraged to accept part-time or temporary employment while continuing to seek a full-time job. Additionally, questions surveyed whether there were differences in how often and in what manner job seekers were contacted based on whether they were unemployed or in part-time or temporary employment, as well as in what ways the respondents thought they and the TE Services could help people who were seeking a full-time job. Finally, the respondents were asked how public employment and business services should be developed in the future to better support job seekers in finding suitable employment.\r\n\r\nThe background variables include the respondent's organisation."

The dataset consists of 1,716 debates in total. Each country has its own folder in the dataset, and each country folder contains separate subfolders for each year of debates. An index of all the debate text files is included in the dataset. The index contains the following information for each file: original file name, FSD file name, year, country, and direct hyperlink to the document. The dataset is only available in the original languages (Spanish, English, Finnish, Portuguese, and Russian)."

Kunkin tehtävän välissä vastaajat vastasivat yhteen tarkkaavaisuutta mittaavaan kysymykseen. Alkuperäisessä kokeessa osallistujat vastasivat kaikkiin kolmeen tehtävään ja toisintokokeessa vain ensimmäiseen ja kolmanteen tehtävään. Taustamuuttujina aineistossa ovat sukupuoli, ikä ja koulutus vuosina sekä tietoja vastaajan osallistumiseen käyttämästä tietokoneesta."

"en": "This survey charted the gambling, social media usage and subjective well-being of young people aged 15-25 years in Finland. The study was conducted as part of the \"Problem Gambling and Social Media: Social Psychological Study on Youth Behavior in Online Gaming Communities\" research project. The aim of the project was to analyse how young social media users evaluate, adopt and share gambling-related online content and how online group processes affect their gambling and gambling-related attitudes. The project was funded by the Finnish Foundation for Alcohol Studies (2017-2019). First, the respondents were asked which social media services they used (e.g. Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, discussion forums, online casinos) and how often. Topics that the respondents discussed on gambling-related social media were charted more closely, and they were asked, for example, whether the discussion usually related to instructions or tips on gambling or to problem gambling and recovering from problem gambling. Some questions on the respondents' social media activity were also presented, for instance, how often they saw gambling-related advertising online, how often they changed their most important social media passwords, and how often they uploaded pictures of themselves on social media. The respondents were asked whether they had ever been harassed online or had been the victim of a crime on the Internet in the past three years (e.g. defamation, identity theft, fraud, sexual harassment). The respondents' identity bubbles on social media were surveyed by using the IBR scale (Identity Bubble Reinforcement Scale). The respondents were asked, for instance, whether they thought they could be themselves on social media and whether they only interacted with people similar to them on social media. Additionally, the CIUS scale (Compulsive Internet Use) was used to examine problems related to Internet use. Questions focused on, for example, whether the respondents found it difficult to stop using the Internet when they were online, whether people close to them said they should use the Internet less, and whether they felt restless, frustrated or irritated when they couldn't use the Internet. In the next section of the questionnaire, the respondents were randomly assigned to two groups for a vignette experiment. Respondents in the test group were told they belong to Group C because they had answered the earlier questions in a similar manner to others in the group. Those in the control group were given no information on the group. The respondents were presented with different gambling-related social media scenarios, and they were asked to evaluate the contents of the gambling-related messages by \"liking\" or \"disliking\" the message or by not reacting to it at all. Each respondent was shown four different gambling messages with different contents. Three factors were manipulated in the scenarios (2x2x2 design): expressed stance of the message on gambling (positive or negative), narrative perspective of the message (experience-driven first-person narration or fact-driven third-person narration) and majority opinion of other respondents on the message (positively or negatively biased distribution of likes or dislikes). For Group C, the majority opinion was seemingly provided by other Group C members, whereas for the control group the majority opinion was seemingly provided by other respondents. Additionally, the respondents' attitudes towards the message were surveyed with statements regarding, for instance, how likely they would find the message interesting or share it on social media. Next, the respondents' attitudes towards gambling were charted by using the ATGS scale (Attitudes Towards Gambling Scale). They were asked, for example, whether people should have the right to gamble whenever they want, whether most people who gamble do so sensibly and whether it would be better if gambling was banned altogether. The respondents' gambling habits were examined by using the SOGS scale (South Oaks Gambling Screen), and they were asked, for instance, which types of gambling they had done in the past 12 months (played slot machines, visited an online casino, bet on lotteries etc.), whether the people close to them had gambling problems, and whether they had borrowed money to gamble or to pay gambling debts. In addition, the respondents' alcohol consumption was surveyed with a few questions from the AUDITC scale (The Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test), and they were asked whether they had used various drugs for recreational purposes (e.g. cannabis, LSD, amphetamine, opioids). The respondents' subjective well-being and social relationships were examined next. The respondents were asked how happy they were in general and how satisfied they were with their financial circumstances and life in general. They were also asked how well the single statement \"I have high self-esteem\" from the SISE scale (Single-item Self-esteem Scale) described them. The three statements on lacking companionship, feeling left out and feeling isolated from the LONE scale (Three-item Loneliness Scale) were also included in the survey. Feelings of belonging to different groups or communities (e.g. family, friends, neighbourhood, parish/religious community) were charted, and the 12-item GHQ scale (General Health Questionnaire) was used to survey the respondents' recent mental health. Questions included, for example, whether the respondents had been able to concentrate on what they were doing, had felt they couldn't overcome their difficulties, and had been losing confidence in themselves. Finally, the respondents' sense of control over the events in their lives was examined with the MASTERY scale (Sense of Mastery Scale), with questions focusing on, for instance, whether they thought they had little control over the things that happen to them and whether they often felt helpless in dealing with the problems of life. The respondents' impulsivity was surveyed by using the EIS scale (Eysenck Impulsivity Scale) and their willingness to delay gratification was surveyed with the GRATIF scale (Delay of Gratification). Background variables included the respondent's gender, age, country of birth (own and parents') level of education, type of municipality of residence, number of inhabitants in municipality of residence, household composition, disposable income, possible financial problems, and economic activity and occupational status."

"en": "This dataset consists of individual and group interviews on the cultural habits and leisure time activities of culturally inactive people in Finland. The interviews were conducted as part of the Understanding Cultural Disengagement in Contemporary Finland (DISFIN) project. The study was funded by the Academy of Finland (ID: 307756), Finnish Cultural Foundation, and City of Helsinki Urban Facts.\r\n\r\nThe aim was to select interviewees who, based on the researcher's previous analysis, did not actively participate in cultural activities. During the interviews, the participants were asked to discuss their views on various forms of culture, such as music, literature, and visual arts. The interviewees also discussed, for example, how they spent their leisure time and how they would spend their time if they could do anything they wanted. Additionally, the cultural events that the interviewees had attended were surveyed. In some of the interviews, pictures of art paintings were used as stimuli for the participants.\r\n\r\nBackground information included the interviewee's age, gender and level of education. The data were organised into an easy to use HTML version at FSD."
