"en": "This package includes alternative representations of the digitized version of Lauri Kettunen's Dialect Atlas of Finnish (Kettunen 1940; http://urn.fi/urn:nbn:fi:csc-kata20151130145346403821) The first version of the digitized data was prepared by profs. Sheila Embleton and Eric Wheeler (York University, Canada) (Embleton & Wheeler 1997, 2000), and further refined for publication by Jyri Lehtinen under the BEDLAN project (Biological Evolution and the Diversification of Languages). The alternative representation provided here includes the data formatted as (1) multistate character format and (2) binary character format. Both formats resemble the representation of population genetic data, and are thus easier to apply to population genetic analyses than the representation provided through the Fairdata repository. Also the linguistic classification of the collected linguistic traits is provided. The data has been prepared by the BEDLAN research project (Biological Evolution and the Diversification of Languages), which has conducted research of Kettunen's dialect atlas using population genetic techniques (Syrjänen et al. 2016, Honkola et al. 2018, Santaharju et al. in revision). Here different states are coded as integers representing the different map symbols from Kettunen's original dialect atlas (for an example, see http://kettunen.fnhost.org/, which provides scans of Kettunen's original atlas map pages by Juha Kuokkala). Municipality_number Unique identifier for each data point (municipality). Municipality_name Municipality name. These may not be unique, as several municipalities may have the same name. lon_WGS84 WGS 84 longitude of the municipality centroid. lat_WGS84 WGS 84 latitude of the municipality centroid. 1a - 213c Dialect features present on each map page. The integer at the beginning matches the map page in Kettunen's atlas, so e.g. page 1 starts with 1. The letter following the integer represents different overlapping variants within a single map page. Each page number is suffixed with as many different letters as there are overlapping variants on that page; for instance page 1 has at most 3 overlapping variants for any datapoint, so the table includes three columns (1a-1c). The values are either integers (representing different map symbols from Kettunen's map page legends, with 1 being the topmost variant, 2 being the second variant, and so on), \"-\" (for absent data) or \"NA\" (for missing data). kettunen_binary.csv Municipality_number Unique identifier for each data point (municipality). Municipality_name Municipality name. Again here, 1 represents the topmost box in Kettunen's map page's legend, 2 the second box, and so on. Kysely on osa Media-alan tutkimussäätiön rahoittamaa Tulevaisuuden media-arki nuorten kuvittelemana -hanketta, jonka toteuttivat yhteistyössä Tampereen yliopiston Comet-tutkimuskeskus sekä Aalto-yliopiston informaatioverkoston koulutusohjelma. Aluksi vastaajille esitettiin kysymyksiä koskien heidän käyttämiään mediateknisiä laitteita ja sosiaalisen median sovelluksia. Heiltä esimerkiksi tiedusteltiin, minkälaisia laitteita ja sovelluksia he säännöllisesti käyttävät sekä mihin tarkoitukseen. Seuraavaksi esitettiin kysymyksiä koskien vastaajien kokemuksia oman mediankäytön muuttamisesta sekä sen mahdollisesta rajoittamisesta. Edelleen vastaajia pyydettiin kuvailemaan, millä tapaa he ovat omaan mediankäyttöönsä tyytyväisiä tai tyytymättömiä. Kyselyn lopuksi pyrittiin vielä kartoittamaan vastaajien toiveita liittyen tulevaisuuden mediaan. Taustamuuttujina aineistossa ovat syntymävuosi, sukupuoli, maakunta, perhemuoto, koulutus ja pääasiallinen toiminta."

"en": "Aineisto koostuu Osallistava hyvinvointi ja terveyden edistäminen (PROMEQ 2016-2019) -hankkeessa kerätyistä haavoittuvassa asemassa olevien henkilöiden alku- ja seurantakyselyistä. Kyselyissä teemoina olivat mm. osallisuus, henkinen ja fyysinen hyvinvointi, sosiaalipalvelujen käyttö ja toimeentulo. Vastaajaryhmät olivat työn- ja koulutuksen ulkopuolella olevat nuoret, pitkäaikaistyöttömät, maahanmuuttajat ja ikääntyneet henkilöt. Tutkimusta tehtiin kvasikokeellisella tutkimusasetelmalla eli osa vastaajista osallistui erilaisiin interventioihin ja osa ei. Aineistoon on koottu eri ryhmille samanlaisina esitetyt kysymykset. Kohderyhmiltä kerätyt laajemmat datat löytyvät täydellisinä Tietoarkistosta aineistonumeroin FSD3432-FSD3435. PROMEQ-hankkeessa oli tarkoituksena kehittää näyttöön perustuvia tapoja edistää terveyttä ja hyvinvointia.\r\n\r\nKyselyssä on laajasti muissa tutkimuksissa käytettyjä mittareita tai kysymyksiä. Kysymyksiä on poimittu mm. Nuorisobarometrista sekä Terveyden ja hyvinvoinnin laitoksen toteuttamista Aikuisten terveys-, hyvinvointi- ja palvelu (ATH) - ja Suomalaisten hyvinvointi ja palvelut (HYPA) -tutkimuksista.\r\n\r\nAlku- ja seurantakyselyn kysymykset toistuvat samanlaisina. Kyselyssä kartoitetaan aluksi tämänhetkistä elämäntilannetta, kuten asuinpaikkaa, kotitaloudessa asuvien henkilöiden määrää, siviilisäätyä, tuloja ja lainoja. Lisäksi tiedustellaan, miten lainat rasittavat taloutta ja onko vastaaja joutunut turvautumaan taloudellisesti muihin ihmisiin. Seuraavaksi tiedusteltiin vastaajan elämänlaatua, itsetuntoa ja osallisuutta. Kysymyksissä kartoitettiin esimerkiksi tyytyväisyyttä elämään, terveyteen, terveyspalveluihin ja itseen sekä mahdollisuuksista toteuttaa eri asioita elämässä.\r\n\r\nSeuraavaksi kysyttiin sosiaalisista suhteista ja luottamuksesta. Vastaajilta kysyttiin syrjinnästä, ihmissuhteiden laadusta, yksinäisyydestä, läheisten ihmisten tapaamistiheyttä ja ryhmä- tai järjestötoimintaan osallistumisesta. Sitten vastaajalta kysyttiin, onko hän osallistunut ryhmätoimintaan viimeisen 12 kuukauden aikana (seurantakyselyssä 6 kuukautta). Yleisistä kuntapalveluista tiedustellaan vielä palvelujen saatavuudesta ja riittävyydestä. Lopussa vastaajalta kysytään terveyteen liittyviä tietoja, kuten liikunnan määrää, ruokatottumuksia, alkoholinkäyttöä ja tupakointia.\r\n\r\nTaustamuuttujina aineistossa ovat mm. sukupuoli, syntymävuosi, tämänhetkinen tilanne, perhemuoto, siviilisääty ja koulutus. Lisäksi on tieto kontrolli- tai koeryhmään kuulumisesta."

"en": "Tutkimuksessa kartoitettiin vuoden 2021 kuntavaaliehdokkaiden yhteiskunnallista taustaa, motiiveja lähteä ehdolle sekä ehdolle asettumisen kannalta tärkeitä voimavaroja. Kyselyn alussa selvitettiin vastaajan syitä asettua ehdolle sekä sitä, mikä tai kuka tähän päätökseen on vaikuttanut. Vastaajan poliittisia mielipiteitä ja aatteita kartoitettiin esittämällä erilaisia mielipidekysymyksiä ja selvitettiin, mitkä asiat ovat mahdollisesti vaikuttaneet näiden muodostumiseen. Vastaajilta tiedusteltiin myös, keitä he ajattelevat edustavansa mahdollisina päättäjinä. Kyselyssä tiedusteltiin myös vastaajan vaalikampanjoinnista, ja siitä, miten koronaepidemia ja siitä seurannut vaalien siirtäminen vaikutti omaan kampanjaan. Vastaajilta kysyttiin aiempia ehdokkuuksia eri vaaleissa ja valituksi tulemisen kertoja sekä toimimista kunnallisissa luottamustehtävissä. Lisäksi kartoitettiin, ketkä auttavat vastaajia erilaisissa vaalikampanjointiin liittyvissä asioissa. Taustamuuttujina aineistossa ovat sukupuoli, ikä, oma ja vanhempien syntymämaa, äidinkieli, koulutus, siviilisääty, perherakenne, ehdokaskunnassa asuttujen vuosien määrä, aluemuuttuja, ammattiasema, millä sektorilla työskentelee, tulot ja yhteiskuntaluokka."

"en": "This survey is a partial repeat of Erik Allardt's internationally renowned 1972 welfare survey (FSD1017). The survey charted various dimensions of welfare in Finland: living standards, loyalties, experiences of self-realisation, alienation, happiness and dissatisfaction. This repeat of the 1972 survey was funded by a Finnish Cultural Foundation grant from the Paavo Koskinen Fund.\r\n\r\nQuestions covered, among other topics, housing, work, employment, social participation, equality, contrasts between population groups, and health. Additionally, the respondents were asked about their friendships, how many friends they had, how long their friendships lasted, and how intense their friendships were. Relationships with family and neighbours were examined, and the respondents were asked about their hobbies, how they spent their leisure time, and how politically active they were. The survey also included 18 constructed variables (variables starting with k) that related to Allardt's indicators of welfare and well-being (having, loving, being).\r\n\r\nBackground variables included the respondent's gender, age, marital status, occupation/status in employment, income bracket, situation in life, number of children living in the household and their age groups, type of accommodation, regional variables, political party preference, and household size and income bracket."

"en": "The survey charted the social participation, mental and physical well-being, use of social and health services, and satisfaction with life of Finnish people aged over 65. The data were collected as part of the Inclusive Promotion of Health and Wellbeing (PROMEQ 2016-2019) research project, which studied population groups that need special support. The aim of the PROMEQ project was to develop and demonstrate novel models of promotion of health and wellbeing. Survey data from the other target groups of the project as well as combined data from all surveys are also available at FSD (FSD3432-FSD3436). The research project was funded by the Academy of Finland. The respondents were assigned into test and control groups. Three surveys were conducted in total: a baseline survey (Questionnaire A) was conducted at the beginning of the research and two follow-up surveys were collected three (Questionnaire B) and six months (Questionnaire C) after the baseline survey. All three surveys are included in this dataset. The test group received social support, guidance, and counselling services, and participated in different inclusive activities. The control group participants were offered conventional services if they sought help. The services offered to the test group included, for instance, inclusive case management aimed at the elderly living at home and at risk of social exclusion because of loneliness or feelings of unsafety. The case management was organised in the form of five group meetings during a six-month period. 6-8 people aged 65 and over, the case manager for the region, and one of the researchers participated in each meeting. The surveys included many scales and questions used in other studies. Questions were selected, for instance, from the Finnish Youth Surveys, as well as the Regional Health and Well-being Study (ATH) and Welfare and Services in Finland (HYPA) surveys conducted by the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL). Most questions included in the baseline survey were repeated in the follow-up surveys. First, the surveys charted the respondents' living conditions, income, loans and need for financial aid or food assistance. The respondents' health, well-being and quality of life was examined with questions on, for example, how satisfied the respondents were with their health, how much they had enjoyed life in the past two weeks, how safe and secure they felt in their everyday life, and whether they had enough energy and drive for their daily life. Satisfaction with different spheres of life was also surveyed with questions regarding, for example, quality of sleep, capacity to work, relationships, and support received from friends. Social relationships and trust were examined next. The respondents were asked whether they often felt lonely and whether they had ever been discriminated based on factors such as age, gender, ethnicity, or financial situation. Questions also focused on the respondents' sociability and feelings of belonging (e.g. whether they felt they were a part of a friend group, had much in common with people around them, and could find company when they wanted to, or whether they felt left out and isolated). The respondents' trust in other people and various institutions, such as public health care, the judicial system, and municipal decision-making, was examined. The respondents' opinions on their own opportunities in life were also surveyed (e.g. whether they thought they had good or bad opportunities to strive for happiness in their life and to act according to their conscience). Barriers to social participation were examined, and the respondents were asked whether there were obstacles that prevented them or made it difficult for them to meet other people outside their home (e.g. memory problems, difficulties moving outside, fear of social situations, or poor self-esteem). Next, big life changes were surveyed. The respondents were asked whether they had experienced any negative or unpleasant changes (e.g. serious illness, losing their partner, decrease in income) or any positive or interesting changes (e.g. finding a new partner or friend, significant improvement in health) in the past year. Participation and interest in events and activities arranged by various organisers, such as pensioners' organisations, parishes, or sports clubs, was also examined. The respondents' general happiness and satisfaction was investigated with statements concerning, for example, whether they knew how they wanted to live their life, had enough joy in their life, and felt useful. Finally, the respondents' use of social and health services was surveyed. The respondents were asked whether they had visited a doctor or other health or social services professional or received support services (e.g. cooking, cleaning or transport services) in the past 12 months (3 or 6 months in the follow-up survey). Additionally, the respondents were asked whether they had been treated in various health care facilities or bought medication during the past year. Questions also focused on basic social assistance, the respondents' satisfaction with the availability of various social and public services, and the respondents' participation in group activities promoting health and well-being (e.g. weight management groups, AA, NA). The respondents' lifestyle was also examined with questions on their exercise, eating and drinking habits. Background variables included, among others, the respondent's gender, year of birth, marital status, highest level of education, household composition, and economic activity and occupational status. Additionally, the background information included whether the respondent belonged to the test or control group."

Nuorten arkea ja koulunkäyntiä kartoitettiin kysymällä tyypillisen arkipäivän ja viikonlopun kulkua. Samalla keskustelu siirtyi nuorten kiinnostuksen kohteisiin ja harrastuksiin. Nuorilta kysyttiin, miten alkoholin käyttö liittyy tai on liittymättä heidän arkielämäänsä ja juhliin. Nuorilta myös kysyttiin siitä, ovatko heidän vanhempansa kenties ohjauksellaan tai muuten puuttuneet mahdolliseen alkoholin käyttöön. Haastatteluissa keskusteltiin myös eri medioiden käytöstä (esim. podcastit, Youtube, suoratoistopalvelut, tv, sosiaalinen media). Haastattelut sisälsivät myös keskustelua sosiaalisen median merkityksestä ylipäänsä ja erityisesti uusiin ihmisiin ja seurustelukumppaniin tutustumisessa. Taustatietona kysyttiin ikäryhmää, koulumuotoa (lukio tai muu), alkoholinkäyttöä ja sukupuolta. Aineistosta on tehty html-versio, jonka hakemiston avulla haastatteluja on helppo selata."

"en": "The robustness and sensitivity of gene networks to environmental changes is critical for cell survival. How gene networks produce specific, chronologically ordered responses to genome-wide perturbations, while robustly maintaining homeostasis, remains an open question. We analysed if short- and mid-term genome-wide responses to shifts in RNA polymerase (RNAP) concentration are influenced by the known topology and logic of the transcription factor network (TFN) of Escherichia coli. We found that, at the gene cohort level, the magnitude of the single-gene, mid-term transcriptional responses to changes in RNAP concentration can be explained by the absolute difference between the gene’s numbers of activating and repressing input transcription factors (TFs). Interestingly, this difference is strongly positively correlated with the number of input TFs of the gene. Meanwhile, short-term responses showed only weak influence from the TFN. Our results suggest that the global topological traits of the TFN of E. coli shape which gene cohorts respond to genome-wide stresses."

Importantly, precise control over the size and shape of virus capsids would have advantages in the development of new vaccines and delivery systems. However, current tools to direct the assembly process in a programmable manner are exceedingly elusive. Here we introduce a modular approach by demonstrating DNA-origami-directed polymorphism of single-protein subunit capsids. We achieve control over the capsid shape, size and topology by employing user-defined DNA origami nanostructures as binding and assembly platforms, which are efficiently encapsulated within the capsid. Furthermore, the obtained viral capsid coatings can shield the encapsulated DNA origami from degradation. Our approach is, moreover, not limited to a single type of capsomers and can also be applied to RNA-DNA origami structures to pave way for next-generation cargo protection and targeting strategies."
