PIEZO-DK’s configurable architecture enables selective, individual isolation of different circuit stages for debugging, probing, and optimization via pin-header jumpers. This feature provides a user-friendly interface for researchers and developers who do not necessarily have extensive knowledge of circuitry design. The experimental validation using a direct compression-type harvester designed for shoes suggests an MPPT efficiency of 96.2% at 0.9 Hz, the highest known to date at a frequency below 1 Hz among those of self-powered MPPT circuits. The results confirm the effectiveness and feasibility in practice for real-world energy harvesting applications. Such a scalable, simple, and energy-efficient tool is ideal for rapid prototyping and system optimization. "en": "The data consists of writings in which the respondents describe their experiences related to polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). The data was originally collected for a master's thesis that examined the experiences of women living with PCOS regarding the stigma associated with womanhood. The invitation to write asked participants to share their personal experiences related to the condition and to reflect on the situations in which they had experienced stigma directed at women due to their PCOS symptoms. Respondents were also asked to consider what had caused the stigma in that particular situation, how they reacted to it, and how they would have liked others to react. People were welcome to respond even if they did not have a PCOS diagnosis or if their gender identity was other than female. The call for submissions also provided some guiding questions to assist with the responses. As background information, respondents were asked about their age, gender, and whether they knew they had PCOS in the situation described in the writing.",

Aineisto on kerätty alun perin pro gradu -tutkielman aineistoksi, jossa tarkasteltiin PCOS:n kanssa elävien kokemusta naiseuteen kohdistuvasta stigmasta. Kirjoituskutsussa pyydettiin kertomaan omista sairauteen liittyvistä kokemuksista ja pohtimaan, millaisissa tilanteissa vastaaja on kokenut PCOS-oireidensa vuoksi naiseuteen kohdistuvaa stigmaa. Lisäksi pyydettiin myös pohtimaan, mikä stigman kokemuksen oli kyseisessä tilanteessa aiheuttanut, miten vastaaja reagoi siihen ja miten hän olisi toivonut toisten asiaan reagoivan? Vastata sai, vaikka henkilöllä ei olisi PCOS-diagnoosia ja vaikka hän olisi sukupuoli-identiteetiltään muu kuin nainen. Kirjoituskutsussa vastaamisen avuksi tarjottiin myös joitakin apukysymyksiä. Taustatietona kysyttiin ikää, sukupuolta, sekä sitä, tiesikö vastaaja sairastavansa PCOS-sairautta kirjoituksessa kuvailemassaan tilanteessa."

The dataset includes all messages posted by the nine presidential candidates on their public accounts during the election campaign from January to February 2024, as well as general election discussion from Twitter/X and news comments. "en": "The corpus will be available via Korp in Kielipankki - the Language Bank of Finland.\n\nWhile ERME contains predominantly if not solely original Erzya and Moksha literature, this version of ERME-psla (Paragraph segementation low annotation) contains both original and translated texts. The most basic format used is XML, with a granularity set at the piece level and then automatically extended to the sentence level. The goal is to create corpora with source meta indicating authors, titles, translators, genre and collectors, etc., which where possible have geo-indendifiers and time stamps, so that the language of each individual piece (article) can be readily compared to fieldwork documentation of these language forms from various eras.\n\nContent of this version:\nMoksha-language texts from the Mokša journal\nTime range 1956 – 2000\n\nErzya-language texts from the Surań tolt and Sâtko journals\nTime range 1956 – 2001"

"en": "This dataset presents historical arable land data from northern Finland, covering an area within ±3 degrees of the Arctic Circle. This historical dataset offers valuable insights for detailed, field-level analysis of arable land use in the Finnish Arctic region.\n\nArable land was extracted using machine learning (Extreme Gradient Boosting) from scanned historical paper maps: [Finnish Basic maps from 1947 and 1979](http://urn.fi/urn:nbn:fi:att:59126695-74e3-4689-8835-7bfd38588f3c) at a scale of 1:20,000. The model achieved exceptional performance, with a Cohen's Kappa and Matthews Correlation Coefficient of 0.992. Class-wise performance for arable land detection was nearly perfect, with recall, precision, and F1 score of 1.0, 0.998, and 0.995, respectively. "en": "n the Artificial Intelligence Agency project (May 2025–May 2026), the competencies and agency of knowledge workers and management in municipalities and wellbeing services counties were studied and developed in relation to the use of generative artificial intelligence and work development. One of the research components of the project was a survey.\nThe primary target group of the survey consisted of public sector knowledge workers employed by municipalities, cities, and wellbeing services counties, although responses were also received from other sectors. The screening criteria for the survey required that respondents work either in a municipality or a wellbeing services county and that they use AI in their work.\nRespondents were sought from different organizational positions, including employees, supervisors, and managers. Data collection was carried out electronically through a consumer panel in Finland, via electronic registry distribution, and by contacting the registries of municipalities and wellbeing services counties. Completing the questionnaire took approximately 20 minutes.\nThe survey consisted of five sections:\n\nTell us about your work and your experience with AI\nYour situation at work and your experience of using generative AI\nHow you gain the most benefit from AI in your work\nChanges in work and readiness for a more autonomous role of AI\nFinally, tell us a little about yourself and the organization you represent\n\nThe questionnaire included a total of 32 single-choice, multiple-choice, and scale-based questions.\nThe dataset consists of a total of 1,460 responses. After the project ends, the research data will be stored in CSC’s IDA service. The data will be retained for five years. The data storage format is CSV, and the dataset will not be updated after publication.",
"fi": "Tekoälytoimijuus -hankkeessa toukokuu 2025- toukokuu 2026 tutkittiin ja kehitettiin kuntien ja hyvinvointialueiden\ntietotyöntekijöiden ja johdon osaamista ja toimijuutta generatiivisen tekoälyn käytössä ja työn\nkehittämisessä. Hankkeen yhtenä tutkimusosiona oli kysey. Kyselyn tiedonkeruun pääkohderyhmänä olivat tietotyötä tekevät julkishallinnon työntekijät kunnissa, kaupungeissa ja hyvinvointialueilla, mutta vastauksia tuli myös muilta toimialoilta. Kyselyn kynnyskykymyksenä oli, että henkilö työskentelee joko kunnissa tai hyvinvointialueilla ja että henkilö käyttää tekoälyä työssään. \nVastaajia on haettu eri asemista: työntekijöitä, esihenkilöitä ja johtajia. Tiedonkeruu on toteutettu sähköisenä tiedonkeruuna kuluttajapaneelissa Suomessa, sähköisenä rekisterilähetyksenä sekä kuntien ja hyvinvointialueiden kirjaamoita kontaktoimalla. Lomakkeen pituus oli noin 20 min. Kyselyssä oli viisi eri osiota: 1) Kerro meille työstäsi ja kokemuksestasi tekoälyn parissa2) Tilanteesi työpaikalla ja kokemuksesi generatiivisen tekoälyn hyödyntämisestä 3) Miten saat eniten hyötyä tekoälystä työhösi. 4) Työn muutos ja valmius tekoälyn itsenäisempään rooliin 5) Kerro lopuksi vielä vähän itsestäsi ja edustamastasi organisaatiosta. Valinta-, monivalinta- ja asteikkokysymyksiä oli yhteensä 32. \nAinestona on yhteensä 1460 vastausta. Hankkeen päätyttyä tutkimusdata tallennetaan CSC:n IDA-palveluun. Aineisto säilytetään tallennettuna viisi vuotta. Aineiston tallennusmuoto on CSV. Dataa ei julkaisemisen jälkeen päivitetä."

"en": "The survey charted the career and employment situation of individuals who had graduated from Finnish universities with a lower (BA/BSc or equivalent) or higher (MA/MSc or equivalent) degree in 2017. The survey was conducted five years after graduation. Main themes of the survey included the respondents' satisfaction with their degree, career path stages, current employment situation, the quality of employment, and the importance of university education for employment. The first part investigated the respondents' education and work history, and satisfaction with the degree. They were asked whether they had, before or after graduation, participated in job-related training, career guidance or any additional professional qualification or higher education studies. The respondents were asked whether they agreed or disagreed with a set of attitudinal statements regarding their degree and its usefulness for employment. Further questions covered how many employers the respondents had had, whether the respondents had been entrepreneurs, self-employed or freelancers, and whether they had been outside the labour market because of family leave or unemployment. The respondents' satisfaction with their career this far was charted, along with current occupational status, type of employer, and type of current work tasks. The respondents were also asked whether their current job required an academic degree, whether the job was commensurate with their academic qualifications, and if not, why they had accepted the job. The extent to which the respondents had been able to utilize the knowledge and skills gained during their university studies was also examined, and monthly gross income at the time of the survey was charted. Next, the respondents were asked which factors had had an impact on their employment after graduation (e.g. major/minor subjects, internship, work experience, personal networks). Questions also covered how important certain skills and know-how were in the respondents' current job and how well their studies had developed these skills (e.g. theoretical or practical knowledge of their field, problem solving, managerial skills, negotiation skills, project management, and communication in English). Background variables included the respondent's gender, age at the time of graduation, NUTS3 region of residence, the university attended, and information on the degree (field of study, number of credits required for the degree, degree level).",
"fi": "Uraseurannoilla kerätään vuosittain valtakunnallisesti tietoa yliopistoista valmistuneiden työllistymisestä ja työelämän osaamistarpeista. Vuoden 2022 uraseurannalla kartoitettiin vuonna 2017 Suomen yliopistoista valmistuneiden varhaista työuraa ja työtilannetta viisi vuotta valmistumisen jälkeen. Kyselyn teemoja ovat muun muassa tyytyväisyys tutkintoon, urapolun vaiheet, tämänhetkinen työtilanne, työllistymisen laatu ja yliopistokoulutuksen merkitys työllistymiseen. Aluksi tiedusteltiin vastaajan osallistumisesta erilaisiin koulutuksiin ja opintoihin yliopistotutkinnon suorittamista ennen tai sen jälkeen sekä tyytyväisyyttä tutkintoon. Tämän jälkeen kysyttiin vastaajan työuran kokonaisuudesta ja mahdollisista valmistumisen jälkeisistä työttömyysjaksoista sekä tyytyväisyydestä työuraan. Seuraavaksi kartoitettiin vastaajan työllisyystilannetta vastaushetkellä. Kysymykset käsittelivät esimerkiksi työnantajaorganisaation tyyppiä ja työtehtävien luonnetta. Vastaajalta tiedusteltiin työn vaatimustason ja yliopistokoulutuksen keskinäistä vastaavuutta sekä mahdollisia syitä koulutustasoa huonosti vastaavan työpaikan vastaanottamiseen. Lopuksi kysyttiin näkemyksiä yliopistokoulutuksen merkityksestä työelämän kannalta. Erityisesti vastaajaa pyydettiin arvioimaan erilaisten taitojen tärkeyttä nykyisessä työssä sekä niiden kehittymistä yliopisto-opintojen aikana. Mainittuja työelämävalmiuksia olivat muun muassa analyyttiset taidot, tiedonhankinta- ja ongelmanratkaisutaidot, sosiaaliset taidot, organisointitaidot, tieto- ja viestintätekniikan osaaminen, viestintä eri kielillä sekä opetus-, koulutus- ja ohjaustaidot. Taustamuuttujina aineistossa ovat vastaajan sukupuoli, ikä valmistuessa, koulutusala, yliopisto, tutkinnon taso (päättyvä kandidaatintutkinto/maisteri tai lääketieteen lisensiaatti), tutkinnon laajuus opintopisteinä ja maakunta."

The 'pimc3'\nprogram is written in Fortran and can be built and operated according to\ninstructions in 'pimc3/README.md'. The documentation may be partially outdated\nand incomplete.\n\nThe PIMC3 suite also has extensive data management features written in Python,\nfound in 'pimc3/pyfiles/', which are used to preprocess the raw simulation data\ninto convenient arrays.\n\n### Additional Python libraries and scripts\n\nAdditional data processing features particular for this project are written in\nPython and found in 'lib/'. This includes data processing, analyses, reference\nmodels. Furthermore, Python scripts for producing figures and tables are found\nin 'analyze/'. The files are laid out to be called from the repository root,\n'/', e.g.\n\n> python3 analyze/plot_Giw_vs_theta.py\n\n## Data repository\n\nThe data archive contains four types of data\n1. Raw data\n1. Preprocessed data\n1. Postprocessed data\n1. Reference data\n\nThe raw data is produced by the 'pimc3' software and stored in the Hierarchical\nData Format (HDF5). The raw PIMC observables feature a binning sequence, i.e., a\nseries of averages over a selected number of measurements. Note: the original\nsubmission scripts, inputs and outputs are preserved as is but only one\ntrajectory file (for MPI core 0) is archived.\n\nThe preprocessed data is produced by the 'p3load' of the PIMC3 suite, which\ncalculates the statistical averages and uncertainties of the binned raw data and\nstores it to disk in ASCII.\n\nThe postprocessed data is the preprocessed data after selected manipulations,\nsuch as rescaling, to conform with the physical analysis. The postprocessing\nonly applies to the correlation functions and their Matsubara series.\n\nThe reference data is based on a reference model (here: analytically continued\nDrude model), evaluated using Python tools and stored in ASCII for convenience.\n\n## Usage\n\nThis overview is an idealized summary of necessary steps, excluding details of\ninstallation, configuration, troubleshooting and methodological practices. Since\nall data are already in place, none of the steps are strictly necessary unless\nmore data points or other adaptations should be needed.\n\n### PIMC simulations\n\nTo re-compute or adapt the PIMC simulations:\n1. Build and install 'pimc3' on a supercomputer of choice.\n1. Launch selected simulation jobs\n11. Manually: edit CONF/PARTICLES in a selected subdirectory and submit 'pimc3'\n11. Nexus: edit 'simulations/run_*.py' and execute it using Python\n1. Once complete, move on or repeat if needed.\n\n### Data preprocessing\n\nThe raw data is preprocessed using 'pimc3/pytools/p3load'. For instance, the\nfollowing commands yield data similar to that in 'data/1_preproc/'\n\n> p3load simulations/rs_*/theta_*/N*/tau_*/lr_*.0/obs/???/dynpol.h5 -o mu2_11,mu2pp_11 -w data/1_preproc/dynpol -a time\n\n> p3load simulations/rs_*/theta_*/N*/tau_*/lr_*.0/obs/???/dynpol.h5 -o mu2_11,mu2pp_11 -F -w data/1_preproc/dynpol_fourier -a time -I 16\n\n> p3load simulations/rs_*/theta_*/N*/tau_*/lr_*.0/obs/???/energy.h5 -w data/1_preproc/energy\n\nNote 1: The Matsubara data of the autocorrelation function is loaded independently\nto measure its apparent statistical uncertainty, which is hard to produce from\nthe uncertainties of the autocorrelation function.\n\nNote 2: It is possible to do the preprocessing on a supercomputer and then pull\nthe (lightweight) preprocessing archive to local machine for postprocessing.\n\n### Data postprocessing\n\nFinally, the postprocessed data and the reference data are dynamically generated\nas requested by postprocessing scripts. That is, for example running\n\n> python3 analyze/plot_Giw_vs_theta.py\n\nqueries the preprocessing archive for selected data (based on the numerical\nparameters), and if found, migrates or creates them to the postprocessing\narchive with proper manipulations.\n\nWhere applicable, the provided scripts accept '-s' switch to 'save the figure'\nto disk and '-ow' to 'overwrite' the postprocessing cache. They can be softly\nedited for different parameters; run any script with '-h' for details."

Kirjoituskutussa vastaajiksi pyydettiin yli 18 vuotiaita henkilöitä, jotka ovat lapsena kokeneet fyysistä tai henkistä väkivaltaa läheisensä taholta. Kirjoitusohjeessa pyydettiin kertomaan, millaista koettu väkivalta oli ja keneen se kohdistui. Lisäksi pyydettiin miettimään, vaikuttaako kuvatut tapahtumat tämänhetkiseen elämään ja mitkä tekijät ovat vaikuttaneet lähisuhdeväkivaltakokemuksista selviytymiseen. Taustatietoina aineistossa on sukupuoli, ikäryhmä sekä tietoa siitä, onko vastaaja kokenut selvinneensä lapsuuden väkivaltakokemuksista. Aineistosta on tehty html-versio, jonka hakemiston avulla kirjoituksia on helppo selata."

"en": "The production of artificial aggregates for concrete production by mineral carbonation is a promising way to utilize large quantities of CO2. In this study, porous artificial aggregates based on wollastonite were manufactured, carbonated and used as fine and coarse aggregates in the production of lightweight concrete. Strength, chemical properties and their effect on mortar and concrete were studied. Mortar bars containing 0–20 wt.% metakaolin were used to study alkali-silica reaction mitigation of the aggregates in Portland cement through expansion tests. The microstructural phase assemblage in the specimens was studied using scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetry and X-ray diffraction. Thermodynamic modelling was used to ascertain the long-term effects of these aggregates. The study showed that 1000 kg aggregates stored 96 kg CO2, which could be improved with a more efficient carbonation process during manufacturing of the aggregates. During alkali–silica reaction mitigation with metakaolin, microstructural studies suggested similarity with limestone–calcined–clay cement (LC3) but also formation of Ca–modified silica gels due to excess amorphous silica. The aggregates were chemically stable in the concrete samples containing metakaolin, and no severe expansion was observed in mortar bar samples containing 10 and 20 % metakaolin. The study demonstrated that porous aggregates are promising for high volume CO2 capture and storage in lightweight concrete."

"en": "This dataset contains material volumes (m3), material masses (kg), and material intensities (kg/m2) for representative buildings from 51 residential building cohorts in Finland. These data are presented per material and in total, aggregated on three hierarchical levels on the correspondingly named sheets in the OpenDocument Spreadsheet (ODS) file: the entire building (data_building), distinguished between vertical building levels (data_building_level), and distinguished between building parts (data_building part). Further details on the data are provided on the description sheet in the same file.\r\n\r\nThe cohorts are based on building type, main bearing material, main façade material, and construction decade. Each cohort is represented by one inventoried building, covering the combinations in the tables below. All buildings are located in the city of Vantaa, Finland, with the exception of the 1940s and 1950s houses, which are based on type-planned houses and thus have no specific location."

"en": "This dataset was generated using the Image Source Method (ISM) implemented in MATLAB, which is mathematically equivalent to the deterministic ray tracing engine available through the MATLAB Antenna Toolbox (raytrace function with 'Method','image'). Unlike stochastic geometry-based channel models (GSCM) described in ETSI TR 138.901 Clause 7.5, every multipath component (MPC) in this dataset corresponds to a physically traced geometric ray propagating through the three-dimensional room. The dataset therefore exhibits spatial consistency: neighbouring UE positions share structurally similar channel responses with smoothly varying delays and angles. \r\nThe Indoor Hotspot (InH) Open Office scenario defined in ETSI TR 138.901 Section 7.2 was selected for its direct relevance to 5G indoor deployments and its geometrically tractable rectangular form. A single base station (BS) equipped with a 16-element uniform linear array (ULA-16) is ceiling-mounted at the room centre, and 1,500 user equipment (UE) positions are drawn uniformly at random from the floor plane. The 3.5 GHz carrier frequency (FR1, NR Band n78, 100 MHz bandwidth) represents the primary 5G mid-band deployment in current and near-future commercial networks."

"en": "The survey charted Finns' opinions on the 2022 county elections and wellbeing services counties. The survey examined respondents' political participation, political attitudes, party allegiance, candidate and party choices and voting behaviour. The data also includes questions on future prospects of Finland. The county elections survey was carried out by the Finnish election study consortium, a consortium of election and democracy researchers from several universities. First, the respondent was asked about their interest in politics and their satisfaction with the functioning of democracy in Finland. Then, the respondent was asked how much he/she followed the county elections through different media and how often respondent discussed politics with other people. The respondents' opinions on voting, democracy, and forms of political decision-making were surveyed. Satisfaction with the political system was assessed by asking how much the respondent trusts various institutions, such as the government, political parties, the municipal council, the media, the Finnish institute for health and welfare and the regional state administrative agency. Next, the respondent's opinions were surveyed using a variety of statements related to county elections and local democracy. Respondents were also asked to rank in order of importance whom the county councillor should primarily represent. The respondent was also asked about access to information on county elections. The next topic was political parties. Respondents were asked for their opinion on different political parties, and if they felt close to any political party. Respondents were also asked to place themselves on the left-right axis and on the value-liberal-conservative scale. The future direction of Finland was explored through attitudinal questions on issues such as multiculturalism, Christian values, climate change, government regulation and taxation. Next, respondents were asked about voting in county elections. Respondents were asked about not voting and the obviousness of not voting. Those who voted in the elections were asked in more detail about the party candidate they voted for, whether the candidate was a resident of their county area and at what point they made their voting decision. Finally, questions were asked about wellbeing services counties. Respondents were asked whether public money should be spent more, the same or less on health care than at present. In addition, a number of questions were asked on issues such as the services provided by the wellbeing services counties and by their own municipality, taxation and user charges. Background variables included, among others, the respondent's year of birth, gender, education, marital status, wellbeing services county, occupational status, employer type, mother tongue, languages used at home, type of municipality of residence, type of dwelling, gross annual household income, number of people in the household, number of children, membership of an ethnic minority group, preferred method of accessing health services and party affiliation.",

Aluevaalitutkimuksen toteutuksesta vastasi Suomen kansallinen vaalitutkimuskonsortio, joka koostuu useiden eri yliopistojen vaali- ja demokratiatutkijoista. Ensiksi vastaajalta kysyttiin kiinnostuksesta politiikkaan sekä tyytyväisyydestä demokratian toimivuuteen Suomessa. Tämän jälkeen tiedusteltiin, minkä verran vastaaja seurasi aluevaaleja eri tiedotusvälineistä ja kuinka usein hän keskustelee politiikasta muiden ihmisten kanssa. Asenneväittämin kartoitettiin vastaajan mielipiteitä äänestämisestä, demokratiasta ja poliittisen päätöksenteon muodoista. Tyytyväisyyttä poliittiseen järjestelmään kartoitettiin kysymällä, kuinka paljon vastaaja luottaa eri tahoihin, kuten hallitukseen, puolueisiin, kunnanvaltuustoon, tiedotusvälineisiin, terveyden ja hyvinvoinnin laitokseen ja aluehallintovirastoon. Seuraavaksi vastaajan mielipiteitä kartoitettiin erilaisin aluevaaleihin ja lähidemokratiaan liittyvin väittämin. Vastaajan tuli myös asettaa tärkeysjärjestykseen se, ketä aluevaltuutetun tulisi ensisijaisesti edustaa. Lisäksi tiedusteltiin aluevaaleihin liittyvän tiedon saatavuudesta. Seuraavana teemana olivat puolueet. Vastaajalta tiedusteltiin, kokeeko hän olevansa lähellä jotakin poliittista puoluetta, ja jos kokee, niin mitä. Lisäksi kysyttiin mielipidettä eri poliittisista puolueista. Vastaajaa pyydettiin myös sijoittamaan itsensä vasemmisto-oikeisto-akselille sekä arvoliberaali-arvokonservatiivi-asteikolle. Suomen tulevaisuuden suuntaa kartoitettiin asenneväittämillä esimerkiksi monikulttuurisuudesta, kristillisistä arvoista, ilmastonmuutoksen torjunnasta, valtion säätelystä ja verotuksesta. Seuraavaksi vastaajalta kysyttiin aluevaaleissa äänestämisestä. Vastaajalta kysyttiin äänestämättä jättämisestä ja sen itsestään selvyydestä. Vaaleissa äänestäneiltä kysyttiin tarkemmin, minkä puolueen ehdokasta vastaaja äänesti, oliko ehdokas omassa kunnassa asuva ja missä vaiheessa hän teki äänestyspäätöksen. Lopuksi kysyttiin hyvinvointialueisiin liittyviä kysymyksiä. Vastaajalta kysyttiin, pitäisikö julkisia varoja käyttää terveydenhuoltoon enemmän, saman verran vai vähemmän kuin nykyisin. Lisäksi esitettiin useita väittämiä liittyen esimerkiksi hyvinvointialueiden ja oman kotikunnan tarjoamiin palveluihin, verotukseen ja asiakasmaksuihin. "en": "Orchestrating learned Stimulus-Response (S-R) mappings has been suggested as one of the central functions of the prefrontal cortex (PFC), as evidenced by S-R selective single neuron activity during correct task performance. Prior work – limited however to single neuron examples – has shown that, during errors, the “wrong” PFC neurons were aberrantly activated. Psychologists and cognitive scientists have long speculated that Stimulus-Response selective single neuron activity in the prefrontal cortex relates to the vigor of the behavioral response. This idea has been neither tested nor demonstrated. While movement vigor has been related to activity in neural circuits for action control such as the basal ganglia, the neural correlates that link Stimulus-Response mappings to behavioral response vigor remain elusive. To investigate this question, we trained male rats to perform a Go/NoGo response task while head-fixed on a treadmill. This allowed us to record PFC single unit spiking, as well as response vigor (running speed). We show that aberrant activation of the “wrong” S-R mapping is correlated with initiation of the incorrect response. The vigor of the incorrect response was directly related to the strength of the aberrant stimulus-evoked activity. It has long been postulated that response vigor is linked to arousal systems, but this link has not been thoroughly tested until recently. Here, we observe a direct relationship for pre-trial arousal state and the subsequent response vigor. Our findings provide evidence for the long-standing belief that S-R mappings are directly related to response vigor. Moreover, we provide evidence for the often suggested but rarely tested relationship between arousal and response vigor."

"en": "This data set is created from the analysis result of Kannuslehto VLF campaigns 2008-2024 for the PLHR study in manuscript Drastichová et al.: \"Geomagnetically Induced Currents on Power Line Harmonic Radiation Observed at the Kannuslehto Ground-Based Station\" accepted to JGR: Space Physics. The event selection criteria for the data set for the study has been geomagnetic field variation (dH/dt) reaching 200nT/min threshold. The event time intervals include data before and after the threshold is reached. The data set covers 22 periods from available Kannuslehto VLF campaigns 2008-2024.\n\nThe published VLF spectrograms are in 1 hour files in HDF5 format including spectrum data, calibration and other attributes related to the station and used analysis. The published spectrums have 2 seconds time resolution covering frequency band up to 1.5kHz with 1Hz frequency resolution forming 1501 x 1800 (frequency x time) matrix per hour. The calibration factors to SI units, frequency and time information are included in each HDF files. \n\nThe source data for published spectrums are 4 minutes long 1s resolution sequences of the total power spectrum matrices from the SGO VLF analysis package written by Tauno Turunen, SGO. These matrices are generated with FFT length of 78126 points with 39064 point overlap using a specific signal filtering like saturation and peak and sferics removal. \n\nThe broad-band VLF raw data is recorded from two orthogonal antenna system built at SGO known as \"VLF 100aT system\". The timing is based on GPS 10MHz reference. The loop aerials are oriented in NS and EW directions. The 24-bit raw data is sampled with 78125Hz."

"en": "BACKGROUND\nWe studied the molecular mechanisms of biosynthesized cyanogenic toxicity in Heliconius erato by studying associations of toxicity levels (concentrations of biosynthesized cyanogenic glucoside compounds linamarin and lotaustralin measured with nuclear magnetic resonance, i.e. NMR) with patterns of whole-genome gene expression. Individuals originating from a laboratory stock were sampled for quantification of chemical compounds using NMR data, and their RNA samples sequenced with whole-transcriptome sequencing (RNASeq). The NMR data could also be used to analyze the complete metabolome or other compounds of interest. Additionally, to test energetic trade-offs and related differential RNA expression, measures of resting- and flight metabolic rates of the study individuals were acquired using flow-through respirometry.\n\nSTUDY QUESTIONS\n1.\tWhat are the physiological/biochemical processes that are directly associated with biosynthesized cyanogenic toxicity?\n2.\tWhat are the physiological/biochemical processes that are indirectly associated through e.g. depletion of energy/resources from biosynthesis of toxins? For this, we additionally acquired measures of resting- and flight metabolic rates of the study individuals using flow-through respirometry.\n3.\tAre there physiological mechanisms that may more directly link toxicity and flight, e.g. recycling cyanogenic glucosides to release nitrogenous compounds that could provide energy for flight?\n\nSAMPLE COLLECTION AND PREPARATION\n\nSample collection and RNA extraction: All individuals were sampled within three days following emergence, were unmated and unfed. One-half of the thorax was flash-frozen in liquid nitrogen and stored in -80°C. RNA was extracted from thorax tissue samples (one quarter of thorax) with Bioline TRIsure protocol, and re-dissolved in RNA-free water. DNA was removed with Ambion DNA-free kit. RNA concentration was analysed with Qubit RNA HS kit, RNA purity was assessed with Nanodrop and integrity with Agilent 2100 (using aliquots of a subset of 12 samples). RIN value is non-applicable for Lepidoptera RNA, but visual inspection proves the sample integrity if high (there is negligible degradation of the RNA product. Extracted RNA samples were further processed and sequenced by Novogene.\n\nRNA quantification and qualification: RNA degradation and contamination was monitored on 1% agarose gels. RNA purity was checked using the NanoPhotometer® spectrophotometer (IMPLEN, CA, USA). RNA concentration was measured using Qubit® RNA Assay Kit in Qubit® 2.0 Flurometer (Life Technologies, CA, USA). RNA integrity was assessed using the RNA Nano 6000 Assay Kit of the Bioanalyzer 2100 system (Agilent Technologies, CA, USA).\n\nLibrary preparation for Transcriptome sequencing: A total amount of 3 μg RNA per sample was used as input material for the RNA sample preparations. Sequencing libraries were generated using NEBNext® Ultra™ RNA Library Prep Kit for Illumina® (NEB, USA) following manufacturer’s recommendations and index codes were added to attribute sequences to each sample. Briefly, mRNA was purified from total RNA using poly-T oligo-attached magnetic beads. Fragmentation was carried out using divalent cations under elevated temperature in NEBNext First Strand Synthesis Reaction Buffer（5X). First strand cDNA was synthesized using random hexamer primer and M MuLV Reverse Transcriptase（RNase H-）. Second strand cDNA synthesis was subsequently performed using DNA Polymerase I and RNase H. Remaining overhangs were converted into blunt ends via exonuclease/polymerase activities. After adenylation of 3’ ends of DNA fragments, NEBNext Adaptor with hairpin loop structure were ligated to prepare for hybridization. In order to select cDNA fragments of preferentially 150~200 bp in length, the library fragments were purified with AMPure XP system (Beckman Coulter, Beverly, USA). Then 3 μl USER Enzyme (NEB, USA) was used with size-selected, adaptor-ligated cDNA at 37°C for 15 min followed by 5 min at 95 °C before PCR. Then PCR was performed with Phusion High-Fidelity DNA polymerase, Universal PCR primers and Index (X) Primer. At last, PCR products were purified (AMPure XP system) and library quality was assessed on the Agilent Bioanalyzer 2100 system.\nClustering and sequencing (Novogene Experimental Department): The clustering of the index-coded samples was performed on a cBot Cluster Generation System using HiSeq PE Cluster Kit cBot-HS (Illumina) according to the manufacturer’s instructions. After cluster generation, the library preparations were sequenced on an Illumina Hiseq platform and 125 bp/150 bp paired-end reads were generated.\n\nQuantification of cyanogenic compounds linamarin and lotaustralin using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR): The biosynthesized cyanogenic glucoside compounds linamarin and lotaustralin were identified and quantified from the H. erato samples using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). For details of the NMR method, see Mattila et al. 2021 (https://doi.org/10.7717/peerj.11523)\n\nMetabolic rates: Measures of resting- and flight metabolic rates of the study individuals were acquired using flow-through respirometry (see Niitepõld et al. 2009, https://doi.org/10.1890/08-1498.1) For the measurement, the individual was placed in a 1-L transparent respirometry chamber, through which CO2-free dry air was pumped at the rate of 1.04 L/min. After acclimatization in the darkened measurement chamber for ~30 min, resting metabolic rate (RMR) was measured during one minute of complete immobility. The individual was then stimulated to fly for 10 min in the exposed chamber, and the highest peak value in the CO2 emission rate during the flight was used as a measure of flight metabolic rate (FMR). This measure is expected to represent the maximal flight performance of an individual butterfly. Metabolic rate generally scales positively with body mass, and in intraspecific comparisons, this effect should be accounted for (e.g., Kleiber 1947). To remove the effect of body mass on FMR and enable the examination of mass-independent FMR differences, the residual from a linear model of FMR against body mass was used, calculated separately for females and males. In addition to body mass, measurement temperature and time of day of measurement were controlled for.\n\n \nDESCRIPTIONS OF THE RNASeq DATASETS:\n\nRNASeq dataset 1: \n•\tMain question: Genes associated with cyanogen biosynthesis and cyanogen-flight metabolic rate trade-off\n•\tSequenced samples: 54 H. erato (27 males, 27 females) with phenotype data of 1) biosynthesized cyanogenic toxicity (based on NMR analysis), 2) resting- and flight metabolic rates.\n•\tTwo sequencing runs: run 1 and run 2. Additional run 2 was done because of low coverage in some samples in run 1.
