"en": "Water samples were collected from the Laihianjoki and Sulvanjoki rivers in April 2021, using a bucket and transferred to 30 L acid-washed containers. The sampling was conducted during springtime, a few weeks after the peak flow caused by snow smelt. The collected river waters were immediately analyzed for pH, temperature, electrical conductivity, and salinity using a WTW Multiline P4 meter. The samples were then transported to the Tvärminne field station of the University of Helsinki, where laboratory experiments began within 24 hours.A large-volume bucket experiment was conducted to study the dynamics of suspended particle size distribution and associated nutrients during the transition from fresh to brackish water conditions. Artificial seawater with salinity of 66.8 g kg-1 was added to river water in an acid-washed basin, while changes in water chemistry and particle size distribution were continuously monitored using a multiparameter water quality sonde and a laser-diffraction particle size analyzer. Additionally, small-volume jar experiments were performed to collect particle samples under controlled conditions using a flocculator apparatus. The collected material was analyzed, and the filtrate was used for further analysis of colored dissolved organic matter.Triplicate samples from flocculator experiments were acidified and analyzed for metal concentrations using an inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometer (ICP-OES) and an inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICP-MS). Filtrate samples were measured for colored dissolved organic matter (CDOM) absorbance and fluorescence using a spectrophotometer and a spectrofluorometer, respectively. Particulate organic carbon (POC) and particulate organic-bound metals were analyzed in filter retentate samples using a mass spectrometer and ICP-MS. Total suspended matter (TSM) was determined by filtering and weighing samples. The apparent particle density was calculated by dividing TSM by volumetric concentrations measured by a laser-diffraction particle size analyzer. However, the density results are biased as particles larger than the detection limit of the instrument are not included in the analysis."

"en": "This repository contains a StarDist deep learning model and its training and validation datasets for segmenting endothelial nuclei while ignoring cancer cells. The cancer cells were perfused over an endothelial cell monolayer. The initial dataset consisted of 17 images, where cancer cell nuclei were manually removed after segmentation with the StarDist Versatile Nuclei model. This dataset was augmented to 68 paired images using computational techniques like rotation and flipping. "en": "This repository contains a StarDist deep learning model and its training and validation datasets designed for segmenting cancer cells perfused over an endothelial cell monolayer captured at 20x magnification. Using computational methods, the initial dataset of 20 manually annotated images was augmented to 160 paired images. "en": "This repository contains a Pix2Pix deep learning model to generate synthetic nuclear staining from brightfield images. The model was trained on 258 paired brightfield and fluorescent microscopy images of circulating cancer cells perfused over an endothelial cell monolayer. To improve performance, the dataset was augmented computationally by a factor of 8. The model was trained over 400 epochs using a patch size of 512x512, a batch size of 1, and a vanilla GAN loss function. "en": "This repository includes a StarDist deep learning model and its training dataset designed for segmenting cancer cells perfused over an endothelial cell monolayer captured at 10x magnification. The model was trained on 77 manually annotated images, with the dataset being computationally augmented during training by a factor of 8. "en": "The recovery of some apex predators has led to concerns for endangered prey that may have developed risky habitat selection tactics during predator-free eras. Environmental heterogeneity affects predator-prey coexistence, but spatial redistribution of prey has rarely been studied. A predator-prey system with white-tailed eagles and common eiders provides a unique opportunity to study the effect of returning predators on an abundant but declining prey population.\r\n\r\nOur objective was to investigate how the physical environment affects predator-prey relationships and subsequently the spatial redistribution of the prey population over time, and to perform a large-scale assessment of the population status and distribution of eiders in the North-Eastern Baltic Sea.\r\n\r\nUsing extensive survey data from the Finnish coast from 1997–2020 on predator and prey breeding numbers, we constructed a spatiotemporal model explaining the distribution of eiders on >3600 islands across highly variable coastal regions. We assessed how the proximity of nesting eagles affected eider abundance, mediated by properties related to physical nest shelter (archipelago type and island forest cover).\r\n\r\nBreeding eider numbers decreased on exposed islands particularly near eagle nests, while they increased near eagle nests in the sheltered archipelago. We observed population-scale predator-induced shifts in the breeding distribution, likely reflecting both excess mortality on exposed islands and a shift of the population core to low-risk habitats.\r\n\r\nWe show that a returning predator can affect the distribution and density of its prey in a habitat-specific manner, which is important to consider in parallel with effects of human-induced ecosystem changes during conservation planning.\r\n\r\nData from the publication:\r\n\r\nLiving with the enemy: The return of an apex predator is associated with habitat shifts in a common but rapidly declining prey population. The parameters were standardised to zero mean and unit variance in the analyses, and are presented here in the scaled form. Due to the sensitivity of the spatial data, the scaled latitudinal and longitudinal parameters are rounded to one decimal. \r\n\r\nEider_pairs: Number of eider pairs breeding on the island in the particular year\r\n\r\nlnSize: Island size in hectares; lnSize is its natural logarithm\r\n\r\nYear: Year (standardised)\r\n\r\nLon: longitude (Euref89), standardised and rounded to one decimal\r\n\r\nLat: latitude (Euref89), standardised and rounded to one decimal\r\n\r\nLand: The percentage of land area within a radius of 5 km from the centroid of the island (standardised). "en": "# Overview\nSignal amplification by reversible exchange (SABRE) is a parahydrogen-based hyperpolarisation technique that significantly enhances nuclear magnetic resonance signals without expensive hardware. While conventional SABRE relies on a static polarisation transfer field set near the level anticrossing (LAC) condition, recent work has shown that oscillating fields can substantially boost the hyperpolarisation levels. Here, we develop a new theoretical model that generalises the LAC condition to account for the oscillating polarisation transfer fields, thereby explaining the spin dynamics of SABRE under such conditions. We demonstrate that the oscillating fields can be used to optimise coherent polarisation transfer while simultaneously suppressing scalar relaxation of the second kind. Large-scale spin dynamics simulations and experiments show enhanced 19F hyperpolarisation compared to conventional SABRE, with a 79% improvement observed experimentally. "en": "The dataset originates from a survey study examining Finnish physical and health education teachers’ perceptions of obesity, body weight, and weight-related stigma. The purpose of the study was to investigate teachers’ attitudes toward fatness, their attributions regarding the causes of obesity, and the factors associated with these beliefs. Data were collected through an online questionnaire administered between September and October 2025.\r\n\r\nThe survey included standardized and validated scales, such as the Fat Attitudes Assessment Toolkit (FAAT), the Modified Weight Bias Internalization Scale (WBIS-M), and a social desirability measure (SDC), along with demographic and background questions (e.g., teaching experience, region, and weight-related experiences).\r\n\r\nThe final dataset comprises responses from 81 teachers working in comprehensive and upper secondary schools across Finland. The data are quantitative, cross-sectional, and anonymized, suitable for use in statistical analyses exploring professional attitudes toward obesity and weight stigma in educational contexts."

"en": "The data includes initial interviews from a three-year longitudinal study. The interviewees are 7th-9th graders who actively play digital games. The aim of the initial interviews was to form an overall picture of the youth's life situation in the beginning of the data collection. The interviews cover the youth's gaming habits, family and school life, and social relationships. In addition, their experiences of school bullying, leisure activities, and future study goals were discussed. Background information includes the age and gender of the interviewee. The dataset contains both Finnish interview transcripts and English translations of them.",
"fi": "Aineisto sisältää kolme vuotta kestävän pitkittäistutkimuksen aloitushaastattelut. Haastateltavat ovat 7-9-luokkalaisia, jotka harrastavat aktiivisesti digitaalisia pelejä. Alkuhaastattelujen tavoitteena oli muodostaa yleiskuva nuorten elämäntilanteesta aineistonkeruun alussa. Haastatteluissa käsitellään nuorten pelaamistottumuksia, perhe- ja kouluelämää sekä sosiaalisia suhteita. Lisäksi selvitetään heidän kokemuksiaan mm. koulukiusaamisesta, vapaa-ajan viettotapoja ja tulevaisuuden opintotavoitteita. Taustatietona on mainittu mm. haastateltavan ikä ja sukupuoli. Aineisto sisältää sekä suomenkieliset haastattelulitteraatiot, että niiden englanninkieliset käännökset."
