"en": "This survey focused on the 2019 parliamentary elections in Finland. Main themes included political participation, political attitudes, party allegiance, candidate and party choice, and voting behaviour. Further topics included citizens' initiative, different ways of having a say in matters, and future prospects of Finland. The data were collected after the elections through face-to-face interviews and a self-administered drop-off questionnaire. The interview data contain Finland's contribution to the international CSES study (module 5). Data collection was funded by the Ministry of Justice. First questions in the interview covered the respondents' interest in politics, attention paid to media coverage of the elections (including social media), Internet use, discussions about politics with others, party identification and self-perceived social class. The respondents were asked to what extent they agreed with some statements relating to voting, democracy, the electoral system, and decision-making. Willingness to influence things by own activity (for instance, by participating in a demonstration or joining a consumer boycott) was charted as well as membership in a political party. Concerning citizens' initiative, the respondents were asked whether they thought the introduction of the initiative had promoted democracy in Finland and whether they had signed any initiatives. Opinions on the importance of the Internet and social media as channels of civic engagement were surveyed. The survey also carried a set of attitudinal statements on voting, politics, political parties, politicians and public political influence (e.g. 'I have no say in what the Government and Parliament decide' or 'By voting, ordinary people can influence political decision-making'). With regard to the future prospects of Finland, the respondents were asked which future directions they thought sounded good or bad (e.g. 'more entrepreneurship and market economy', 'better equality between men and women'). The CSES module first explored the respondents' opinions on politicians and their actions, and immigration. Views on whether various factors contributed to being truly Finnish, whether corruption was widespread among politicians, whether the Government should take measures to bridge the income gap, and whether it made a difference who was in power or who people voted for were also charted. The respondents were asked to place themselves and the parties on a left-right axis. Questions also covered satisfaction with democracy in Finland and whether the respondents felt close to any party. Voting behaviour was studied with questions on whether the respondents had voted, the candidate of which party they had voted for, whether they had considered voting for a candidate of any other party and if yes, which party, whether they had voted in the previous parliamentary elections and which party they had voted for. Opinions on the parties in general as well as individual party leaders were surveyed. Finally, the respondents' factual knowledge of politics was tested with a few questions. Non-voters were asked why they had not voted and how self-evident not voting had been to them. All those who had voted were asked what had influenced their choice of party, to what extent various issues had influenced their candidate choice, whether they had voted for a candidate who was of the same age and gender as themselves, and when they had decided which candidate and party to vote for. Trust in government and other institutions, groups and people was charted as well as views on the performance of the Government in the previous electoral term. The self-administered questionnaire first surveyed the respondents' opinions on how easy it was to detect how the policy objectives of parties differed, how well the previous Government had handled various issues, and which issues they had found interesting in election campaigns. The respondents were also asked to what extent they agreed with a set of statements concerning current political issues (e.g. that Finland should leave the EU, Finland is too eager to meet the EU's environment and climate goals, and the right of same-sex couples to marry or adopt is a good thing) and the parliamentary elections (e.g. whether electoral legislation was unfair to smaller parties and voting had been made easy). The sources from which the respondents got relevant information for their voting choice were examined (e.g. family or friends, newspapers, TV, social media), and the respondents were asked whether they had noticed any forms of electoral disruption in the elections as well as whether they thought various forms of electoral disruption were possible in future elections. Online voting and political activities and participation on the Internet were charted, as well as time spent on following news and other programmes on politics and topical issues. The extent to which the respondents came across different political opinions, news and other information on the Internet was studied. Other topics included views on whether male or female politicians were better able to work in various policy sectors and opinions on the decision-making process of Finnish political parties as well as on whether promises had been fulfilled by parties after the 2015 parliamentary elections. The respondents' perceptions of their own financial situation and the Finnish economy and employment situation were also charted, as well as their satisfaction with their own life. Finally, personality traits of the respondents were surveyed using the Ten-item personality inventory (TIPI). Variables beginning with 'k' are national election study variables, 'q' denotes CSES variables, 'p' denotes variables in the self-administered questionnaire, 'a' denotes CSES administrative variables and 'd' denotes background variables. Background variables included, among others, the respondent's year of birth, gender, education, marital status, health status, trade union membership, economic activity and occupational status, employer type, unemployment periods, religiosity and religious attendance, mother tongue, gross annual household income, number of people in the household, type of neighbourhood/municipality, and electoral district.",
"fi": "Eduskuntavaalitutkimus 2019 kartoittaa suomalaisten poliittista osallistumista, poliittisia asenteita, puolueiden kannatusta, ehdokas- ja puoluevalintoja sekä äänestysaktiivisuutta. Vaalitutkijoiden kokoama aineisto sisältää kysymyksiä myös kansalaisaloitteesta, Suomen tulevaisuuden näkymistä ja vaikuttamisen erilaisista tavoista. Aineisto koostuu kahdesta eduskuntavaalien jälkeen kerätystä osasta: käyntihaastatteluaineistosta ja vastaajien itse täyttämästä perävaunulomakeaineistosta. Käyntihaastatteluaineisto sisältää Suomen osuuden kansainvälisestä CSES-hankkeesta (5-moduuli). Aineistonkeruun rahoitti Oikeusministeriö. Aluksi kysyttiin, kuinka kiinnostunut vastaaja on politiikasta ja paljonko hän seurasi eduskuntavaaleja eri tiedotusvälineistä. Kysyttiin myös, kuinka usein hän keskustelee politiikasta muiden ihmisten kanssa, kuinka vakiintunut hänen puoluekantansa on ja mihin yhteiskuntaluokkaan hän katsoo kuuluvansa. Vastaajan mielipiteitä kartoitettiin asenneväittämin, joissa kysyttiin äänestämisestä, demokratiasta, kansanedustajista ja puolueista. Seuraavaksi tiedusteltiin vastaajan mahdollista puoluejäsenyyttä ja sitä, onko hän allekirjoittanut valtiollisen tason kansalaisaloitetta. Vastaajalle esitettiin vielä väittämiä poliittisen vaikuttamisen tavoista ja mahdollisuuksista sekä Suomen tulevaisuuden suunnasta. Tulevaisuuteen liittyvissä väittämissä olivat esillä muun muassa kaksikielisyys, monikulttuurisuus, tuloerot ja ympäristökysymykset. CSES-osion alussa esitettiin väittämiä mm. poliitikkojen toiminnasta ja maahanmuutosta. Vastaajia pyydettiin arvioimaan, mitä piirteitä he pitävät tärkeinä siinä, että henkilöä voidaan pitää suomalaisena. Vastaajat myös arvioivat, kuinka hyvin Sipilän hallitus onnistui toiminnassaan edellisellä vaalikaudella. Vastaajilta kysyttiin, mikä puolue edustaa parhaiten heidän omia näkemyksiään ja mitä puoluetta ja ehdokasta he äänestivät 2019 eduskuntavaaleissa. Vastaajat myös kertoivat, mitkä asiat vaikuttivat ehdokkaan ja puolueen valintaan. Vastaajilta kysyttiin mielipiteitä suomalaisista puolueista ja niiden puheenjohtajista. Vastaajia myös pyydettiin asettamaan puolueet ja itsensä vasemmisto-oikeisto-akselille. Seuraavaksi vastaajilta kysyttiin, voiko ihmisiin heidän mielestään luottaa ja kuinka paljon he luottavat eri tahoihin, kuten presidenttiin, puolueisiin, eduskuntaan, tiedotusvälineisiin tai virkamiehiin. Tämän jälkeen esitettiin muutama poliittista tietotasoa mittaava kysymys. Käyntihaastattelua seuranneessa perävaunulomakkeessa kysyttiin, miten puolueiden tavoitteet erottuivat toisistaan mm. työllisyyttä, verotusta, ympäristöä, vanhustenhoitoa ja koulutusta koskevissa asioissa. Vastaajat myös arvioivat, miten edellinen hallitus oli onnistunut hoitamaan samoja asioita ja mitkä niistä kiinnostivat vastaajia eniten. Vastaajat ottivat kantaa ajankohtaisia poliittisia kysymyksiä koskeviin väittämiin, jotka käsittelivät Euroopan unionia, demokratiaa, Natoa, samaa sukupuolta olevien oikeuksia ja ilmastonmuutoksen torjuntaa. Seuraavaksi vastaajat kertoivat erilaisista tietolähteistä, jotka olivat olleet tarpeellisia äänestyspäätöksen muodostumiselle. Vastaajat arvioivat vaalihäirintään liittyviä väitteitä ja kertoivat, olivatko havainneet vaalihäirintää vuoden 2019 vaaleissa tai pitävätkö sitä todennäköisenä tulevaisuudessa. Vastaajat kertoivat median seuraamisestaan, sosiaalisen median käytöstä sekä siitä, mitä yhteiskunnallisen osallistumisen muotoja he olivat tehneet, esimerkiksi allekirjoittaneet kansalaisaloitteen tai osallistuneet poliittisen puolueen tai muun yhteiskunnallisen järjestön toimintaan. Tämän jälkeen kysyttiin vastaajien käsityksiä siitä, kumpaa sukupuolta oleva poliitikko, mies vai nainen, kykenee toimimaan paremmin eri politiikan osa-alueilla. Vastaajat myös arvioivat, miten Sipilän hallituksen vaalilupauksen olivat toteutuneet heidän mielestään. Lopuksi vastaajat arvioivat niin Suomen talouden tilannetta kuin tyytyväisyyttä omaan taloudelliseen tilanteeseen ja elämään yleensä. Vastaajilta kysyttiin vielä eri ryhmiin samastumisesta ja omista luonteenpiirteistä. Tutkimusaineiston k-alkuiset muuttujat ovat kansallisen eduskuntavaalitutkimuksen sisältömuuttujia, q-alkuiset ovat kansainvälisen CSES-lomakkeen sisältömuuttujia, p-alkuiset ovat perävaunulomakkeen muuttujia, a-alkuiset ovat kansainvälisen CSES-lomakkeen hallinnollisia muuttujia ja d-alkuiset ovat taustamuuttujia. "en": "The study charted Finnish political attitudes, opinions and behaviour in the 2017 municipal elections in Finland. The study was part of a project of the Foundation for Municipal Development (KAKS) which also funded data collection. First, the respondents' interest in politics and municipal election campaigning was charted as well as what sort of sources the respondents used for municipal election communications and information. The respondents were also asked where they received information regarding the election, parties and candidates and what they considered important election themes in the municipal elections. It was also examined whether the respondents were mainly interested in national or local issues in the municipal elections. Next, the respondents were asked to evaluate whether they agreed or disagreed with a set of attitudinal statements regarding satisfaction with democracy, voting, parties, the Government and the Parliament, municipal politics, the importance of municipal elections, and the residents' ability to impact local matters. The respondents were also asked how important they considered having an influence on different municipal services, e.g. education, public transport, land use planning, libraries and healthcare. The respondents' attitudes toward the social and healthcare reform ('Sote reform') were also examined. Finally, the survey charted the respondents' political activity, motives for voting and voting behaviour with questions regarding active citizenship in the past, how they would prefer to impact matters in their municipality, and political party preference. Depending on whether the respondents had voted or not in the 2017 municipal elections, reasons for not voting or for choosing the party and candidate were enquired. Background variables included age, gender, municipality and region of residence, type of municipality of residence and residential area, education level, marital status, economic activity and occupational status, occupational group and sector, membership in a trade union or professional association, self-perceived social class, annual gross income of the household, household composition, mother tongue, unemployment in the previous year, and the political party the respondent had voted for in the 2017 and 2012 municipal elections.",
"fi": "Tutkimuksessa kartoitettiin politiikkaan liittyviä asenteita, mielipiteitä ja käyttäytymistä vuoden 2017 kuntavaaleissa. Tutkimus on osa Kunnallisalan kehittämissäätiön (KAKS) hanketta ja se myös rahoitti tutkimusaineiston keräystä. Aluksi kyselyssä kartoitettiin vastaajien kiinnostusta politiikkaa ja äänestämistä kohtaan sekä vaalikampanjoinnin ja kuntavaaliviestinnän seuraamisen tapoja ja määrää. Seuraavaksi kerättiin tietoja siitä, miten vastaajat saivat tietoa kuntavaaleista, puolueista ja ehdokkaista ja mitkä olivat vastaajille tärkeitä politiikkaan liittyviä asioita ja vaaliteemoja. Kyselyssä selvitettiin myös vastaajien kiinnostusta valtakunnallisia ja paikallisia asioita kohtaan. Tämän jälkeen vastaajien mielipiteitä ja tyytyväisyyttä demokratiasta, äänestämisestä, puolueista, hallituksesta ja eduskunnasta selvitettiin erilaisten väittämien avulla. Vastaajien vaikuttamisen määrää ja sen keinoja liittyen poliittisiin asioihin ja kuntapalveluihin selvitettiin mielipidekysymysten avulla. Kyselyssä kartoitettiin myös vastaajien asenteita ja suhtautumista sote-uudistusta kohtaan. Lopuksi kyselyssä kartoitettiin vastaajien poliittista aktiivisuutta, äänestämismotiiveja ja äänestämiskäyttäytymistä pyytämällä heitä arvioimaan erilaisten väittämien tärkeyttä heille itselleen. Kyselyssä selvitettiin myös puolue- ja ehdokasvalintojen syitä ja tärkeyttä. Taustamuuttujina aineistossa ovat ikä, sukupuoli, erilaisia aluemuuttujia, koulutus, siviilisääty, työ- ja elämäntilanne, erilaisia ammattiryhmään ja -liittoon liittyviä muuttujia, toimiala, yhteiskuntaluokka, kotitalouden tulot, perherakenne, äidinkieli, kunnan asukasluku ja muuttuja siitä, työskenteleekö tai opiskeleeko vastaaja äänestyskunnassa."

"en": "This dataset contains 3D models of two 19th century folk costumes from Karelian Isthmus, Heinjoki and Koivisto. This 3D image collection has been created at the University of Helsinki as part of the TRACTion research project funded by the European Union's CREA program (2023–2025) by Riikka Räisänen and Mari Kosunen. The photographers and 3D model creators are Rami Saarikorpi from 360 Finland and Veikko Miettinen from the University of Eastern Finland.\n\nEast Karelian women's traditional folk garments, representing the Äyrämöinen folk from Heinjoki and Koivisto, were selected for this study among the Finnish national costumes in the late 17th and early 18th century. These costumes indicated a person's wealth, with more embellished and materially substantial gowns signifying a higher social status of the family. Before the 20th century, textiles were mainly produced in homes following principles of self-sufficiency and efficiency. Even though materials were scarce, colors and embroideries were used particularly in women’s costumes, and tiny pieces of precious bought fabrics were attached as decorations."

Irish costumes were adorned with beautiful Irish lace, crochet, and embroidery. Celtic embroidery was added to clothing to develop a distinctive Irish dress style during the great cultural revival of the early 20th century. The Karelian costume from Finland was constructed using wool and linen. Ladies in Karelia wore handcrafted, highly embroidered gowns, and traditions were passed down from older ladies, including mothers and grandmothers. These costumes were collected in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries when Finnish Karelia was known as ‘The Old Finland’. This paper delves into the origins of these costumes and how social and cultural events, with their intriguing influence, shaped their styles, features, colors, and fabrics.</jats:p>"

Toisessa tehtävässä vastaajien piti arvioida, katsovatko esitetyt kasvokuvat suoraan heitä kohti. Kolmannessa tehtävässä vastaajien piti täydentää lauseita heistä sopivimmalla persoonapronominilla. Kunkin tehtävän välissä vastaajat vastasivat yhteen tarkkaavaisuutta mittaavaan kysymykseen. Alkuperäisessä kokeessa osallistujat vastasivat kaikkiin kolmeen tehtävään ja toisintokokeessa vain ensimmäiseen ja kolmanteen tehtävään. Taustamuuttujina aineistossa ovat sukupuoli, ikä ja koulutus vuosina sekä tietoja vastaajan osallistumiseen käyttämästä tietokoneesta."

Aineisto sisältää työnantajien näkemyksiä osa-aikeisen ja tilapäisen työvoiman rekrytoinnista sekä siitä, miten työsopimuslaissa määritelty lisätyön tarjoamisvelvollisuus on vaikuttanut rekrytointikäytäntöihin. Lisäksi työnantajat arvioivat, miten lisätyön tarjoamisvelvollisuus jo työssä oleville osa-aikatyöntekijöille toimii työnantajaorganisaatioiden näkökulmasta. Kysymykset käsittelivät myös työnantajien yhteistyötä TE-palveluiden kanssa koskien osa-aikatyöntekijöiden rekrytointia. Taustamuuttujia aineistossa ovat vastaajan työnantajaorganisaation toimiala, vastaajan asema organisaatiossa sekä organisaation henkilöstömäärä."

"en": "Tutkimuksessa selvitettiin vastaajien äänestyskäyttäytymistä sekä käsityksiä juuri ennen tutkimuksen suorittamista käydyissä vuoden 2018 presidentinvaaleissa. Aluksi vastaajilta tiedusteltiin, kuinka paljon he seurasivat vaalien aikaan vaalikampanjointia sekä vaaliviestintää. Tämän jälkeen tiedusteltiin myös ovatko vastaajat käyttäneet vaalikoneita sekä laajemmin ajatuksia liittyen vaalikoneisiin. Seuraavaksi kysyttiin vastaajien käsityksiä ehdokkaista vaalikampanjoiden aikaan ja samalla tiedusteltiin ketä ehdokasta vastaajat ovat äänestäneet. Edelleen vastaajia pyydettiin arvioimaan omaa äänestyskäyttäytymistä sekä sitä, mistä vastaajat arvioivat saaneensa tietoa oman äänestyspäätöksen tueksi ja missä määrin tietyt tekijät vaikuttivat äänestyspäätökseen. Tämän jälkeen vastaajia pyydettiin arvioimaan riippumatta äänestämisestään, keitä kaikkia ehdokkaita he olivat harkinneet äänestävänsä sekä missä kaikissa vaaleissa vastaajat ovat antaneet äänensä viimeisen neljän vuoden aikana. Lisäksi vastaajilta kysyttiin kiinnostuneisuutta ja ajatuksia politiikasta sekä arvioimaan presidentin valtaa. Äänestämättä jättäneiltä kysyttiin, mitkä syyt vaikuttivat siihen, etteivät he käyneet äänestämässä. Taustamuuttujia olivat sukupuoli, ikä, kotipaikkakunnan tilastollinen kuntaryhmitys, vasemmisto-oikeisto-kanta, yhteiskuntaluokka, kuuluminen ammattiyhdistykseen, koulutus, talouden bruttovuositulot ja ammatillinen asema."

"en": "The dataset consists of police reports entered in the police case management system where the victim was a child aged 4-5 years. The data were mainly formed based on information collected from the free-form texts on the reports. The archived data include information in statistical format on all reports that were entered in the system in 2017 where the name of the crime was listed as petty assault or assault. In cases where the crime was listed as both petty assault and assault, the archived data record the case as an assault. The original research was partly funded by Tampere University Hospital.\r\n\r\nThe data include information on the type of crime disclosed in the report as well as categorised information on the person who suspected a crime had taken place, the person who reported the suspected crime, and the suspect. Additionally, the data include information on the origin of the suspicion described in the report, how long a crime had been suspected, and how much of a delay there was in reporting the suspected crime. The child's gender and whether the child's parents were together were also recorded in the data."

"en": "Tutkimuksessa kartoitettiin vuoden 2021 kuntavaaliehdokkaiden yhteiskunnallista taustaa, motiiveja lähteä ehdolle sekä ehdolle asettumisen kannalta tärkeitä voimavaroja. Kyselyn alussa selvitettiin vastaajan syitä asettua ehdolle sekä sitä, mikä tai kuka tähän päätökseen on vaikuttanut. Vastaajan poliittisia mielipiteitä ja aatteita kartoitettiin esittämällä erilaisia mielipidekysymyksiä ja selvitettiin, mitkä asiat ovat mahdollisesti vaikuttaneet näiden muodostumiseen. Vastaajilta tiedusteltiin myös, keitä he ajattelevat edustavansa mahdollisina päättäjinä. Kyselyssä tiedusteltiin myös vastaajan vaalikampanjoinnista, ja siitä, miten koronaepidemia ja siitä seurannut vaalien siirtäminen vaikutti omaan kampanjaan. Vastaajilta kysyttiin aiempia ehdokkuuksia eri vaaleissa ja valituksi tulemisen kertoja sekä toimimista kunnallisissa luottamustehtävissä. Lisäksi kartoitettiin, ketkä auttavat vastaajia erilaisissa vaalikampanjointiin liittyvissä asioissa. Taustamuuttujina aineistossa ovat sukupuoli, ikä, oma ja vanhempien syntymämaa, äidinkieli, koulutus, siviilisääty, perherakenne, ehdokaskunnassa asuttujen vuosien määrä, aluemuuttuja, ammattiasema, millä sektorilla työskentelee, tulot ja yhteiskuntaluokka."

For example \"2PEtOH_1o10k\" means that the folder contains measurement of 2-phenylethanol diluted with propylene glycol in volumetric proportion 1/10 000. Another example is \"nBuOH_1o100\" - n-Butanol diluted with propylene glycol in volumetric proportion 1/100. Please find the abbreviations in the article referred. For the first five weeks only 1/100 dilutions were measured. The last two weeks (weeks 6 and 7) 1/10 000 dilutions were measured. However, Carvone 1/100 was measured again on week 6 due to suspicion of faulty measurements during the previous weeks. The faulty measurements were not confirmed, and thus there 25 more samples of Carvone with dilution rate 1/100."

"en": "This survey focused on the 2019 parliamentary elections in Finland. Main themes included political participation, political attitudes, party allegiance, candidate and party choice, and voting behaviour. Further topics included citizens' initiative, different ways of having a say in matters, and future prospects of Finland. The data were collected after the elections through face-to-face interviews and a self-administered drop-off questionnaire. The interview data contain Finland's contribution to the international CSES study (module 5). Data collection was funded by the Ministry of Justice.\r\n\r\nFirst questions in the interview covered the respondents' interest in politics, attention paid to media coverage of the elections (including social media), Internet use, discussions about politics with others, party identification and self-perceived social class. The respondents were asked to what extent they agreed with some statements relating to voting, democracy, the electoral system, and decision-making. Willingness to influence things by own activity (for instance, by participating in a demonstration or joining a consumer boycott) was charted as well as membership in a political party. Concerning citizens' initiative, the respondents were asked whether they thought the introduction of the initiative had promoted democracy in Finland and whether they had signed any initiatives. Opinions on the importance of the Internet and social media as channels of civic engagement were surveyed.\r\n\r\nThe survey also carried a set of attitudinal statements on voting, politics, political parties, politicians and public political influence (e.g. 'I have no say in what the Government and Parliament decide' or 'By voting, ordinary people can influence political decision-making'). With regard to the future prospects of Finland, the respondents were asked which future directions they thought sounded good or bad (e.g. 'more entrepreneurship and market economy', 'better equality between men and women').\r\n\r\nThe CSES module first explored the respondents' opinions on politicians and their actions, and immigration. Views on whether various factors contributed to being truly Finnish, whether corruption was widespread among politicians, whether the Government should take measures to bridge the income gap, and whether it made a difference who was in power or who people voted for were also charted. The respondents were asked to place themselves and the parties on a left-right axis. Questions also covered satisfaction with democracy in Finland and whether the respondents felt close to any party. Voting behaviour was studied with questions on whether the respondents had voted, the candidate of which party they had voted for, whether they had considered voting for a candidate of any other party and if yes, which party, whether they had voted in the previous parliamentary elections and which party they had voted for. Opinions on the parties in general as well as individual party leaders were surveyed. Finally, the respondents' factual knowledge of politics was tested with a few questions.\r\n\r\nNon-voters were asked why they had not voted and how self-evident not voting had been to them. All those who had voted were asked what had influenced their choice of party, to what extent various issues had influenced their candidate choice, whether they had voted for a candidate who was of the same age and gender as themselves, and when they had decided which candidate and party to vote for. Trust in government and other institutions, groups and people was charted as well as views on the performance of the Government in the previous electoral term.\r\n\r\nThe self-administered questionnaire first surveyed the respondents' opinions on how easy it was to detect how the policy objectives of parties differed, how well the previous Government had handled various issues, and which issues they had found interesting in election campaigns. The respondents were also asked to what extent they agreed with a set of statements concerning current political issues (e.g. that Finland should leave the EU, Finland is too eager to meet the EU's environment and climate goals, and the right of same-sex couples to marry or adopt is a good thing) and the parliamentary elections (e.g. whether electoral legislation was unfair to smaller parties and voting had been made easy). The sources from which the respondents got relevant information for their voting choice were examined (e.g. family or friends, newspapers, TV, social media), and the respondents were asked whether they had noticed any forms of electoral disruption in the elections as well as whether they thought various forms of electoral disruption were possible in future elections.\r\n\r\nOnline voting and political activities and participation on the Internet were charted, as well as time spent on following news and other programmes on politics and topical issues. The extent to which the respondents came across different political opinions, news and other information on the Internet was studied. Other topics included views on whether male or female politicians were better able to work in various policy sectors and opinions on the decision-making process of Finnish political parties as well as on whether promises had been fulfilled by parties after the 2015 parliamentary elections. The respondents' perceptions of their own financial situation and the Finnish economy and employment situation were also charted, as well as their satisfaction with their own life. Finally, personality traits of the respondents were surveyed using the Ten-item personality inventory (TIPI).\r\n\r\nVariables beginning with 'k' are national election study variables, 'q' denotes CSES variables, 'p' denotes variables in the self-administered questionnaire, 'a' denotes CSES administrative variables and 'd' denotes background variables.\r\n\r\nBackground variables included, among others, the respondent's year of birth, gender, education, marital status, health status, trade union membership, economic activity and occupational status, employer type, unemployment periods, religiosity and religious attendance, mother tongue, gross annual household income, number of people in the household, type of neighbourhood/municipality, and electoral district."

"en": "Positive supercoiling buildup (PSB) is a pervasive phenomenon in the transcriptional programs of Escherichia coli. After finding a range of Gyrase concentrations where the inverse of the transcription rate of a chromosome-integrated gene changes linearly with the inverse of Gyrase concentration, we apply a Line Weaver-Burk plot to dissect the expected in vivo transcription rate in absence of PSB. We validate the estimation by time-lapse microscopy of single-RNA production kinetics of the same gene when single-copy plasmid-borne, shown to be impervious to Gyrase inhibition. Next, we estimate the fraction of time in locked states and number of transcription events prior to locking, which we validate by measurements under Gyrase inhibition. Replacing the gene of interest by one with slower transcription rate decreases the fraction of time in locked states due to PSB. Finally, we combine data from both constructs to infer a range of possible transcription initiation locking kinetics in a chromosomal location, obtainable by tuning the transcription rate. We validate with measurements of transcription activity at different induction levels. This strategy for dissecting transcription initiation locking kinetics due to PSB can contribute to resolve the transcriptional programs of E. coli and in the engineering of synthetic genetic circuits."

"en": "Closely spaced promoters in tandem formation are abundant in bacteria. We investigated the evolutionary conservation, biological functions, and the RNA and single-cell protein expression of genes regulated by tandem promoters in E. coli. We also studied the sequence (distance between transcription start sites 'dTSS', pause sequences, and distances from oriC) and potential influence of the input transcription factors of these promoters. From this, we propose an analytical model of gene expression based on measured expression dynamics, where RNAP-promoter occupancy times and dTSS are the key regulators of transcription interference due to TSS occlusion by RNAP at one of the promoters (when dTSS ≤ 35 bp) and RNAP occupancy of the downstream promoter (when dTSS > 35 bp). Occlusion and downstream promoter occupancy are modeled as linear functions of occupancy time, while the influence of dTSS is implemented by a continuous step function, fit to in vivo data on mean single-cell protein numbers of 30 natural genes controlled by tandem promoters. The best-fitting step is at 35 bp, matching the length of DNA occupied by RNAP in the open complex formation. This model accurately predicts the squared coefficient of variation and skewness of the natural single-cell protein numbers as a function of dTSS. Additional predictions suggest that promoters in tandem formation can cover a wide range of transcription dynamics within realistic intervals of parameter values. By accurately capturing the dynamics of these promoters, this model can be helpful to predict the dynamics of new promoters and contribute to the expansion of the repertoire of expression dynamics available to synthetic genetic constructs."

"en": "This dataset contains model-generated group-level connectomes of phase-synchronization 1.) between 74 left-hemispheric regions of the Destrieux brain atlas, and 2.) between 74 right-hemispheric regions of the Destrieux brain atlas (Destrieux et al. (2010)). Model dynamics were generated by simulating a model of 74 Wilson-Cowan oscillators (Wilson & Cowan (1972)), with links between oscillators specified by a diffusion MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)-based connectome. Source-reconstructed model dynamics were obtained by projecting simulated data to MEG sensors and then, projecting sensor-level data back to brain regions using subject-specific forward and inverse operators respectively (N=23). Subject-specific source-reconstructed model dynamics were bandpass filtered in the alpha frequency band (8-12 Hz) using Morlet filtering (peak-frequency=9.83 Hz, m=5). Subject-specific matrices of phase-synchronization were then estimated between every pair of left-hemispheric regions (or right-hemispheric regions), using weighted Phase Lag Index (wPLI) (Vinck et al. (2011)). These 23 subject-specific matrices of phase-synchronization were averaged to produce model-generated group-level connectomes of phase-synchronization."

"en": "This dataset contains 1.) time constants of excitatory and inhibitory neocortical neurons, collated from the NeuroElectro database, 2.) spike thresholds of excitatory and inhibitory neurons, collated from the NeuroElectro database, and 3.) posterior distributions of parameters of large-scale biologically plausible models of human Neuroscience data, estimated using likelihood-free inference (LFI) methods to fit these models to Magnetoencephalography (MEG) resting-state data (N=75). \r\n\r\nWe used pooled versions of the time constants and spike threshold values in this dataset along with other biological constraints, to set prior distributions of parameters of large-scale biologically plausible models of human Neuroscience data. We then used LFI methods to estimate posterior distributions of these parameters from MEG resting-state data (N=75) - we have also shared the posterior distributions in this dataset. Examples of parameters for which we have shared posterior distributions include strengths of connections within and between excitatory and inhibitory neuronal populations, time constants of excitatory and inhibitory neuronal populations, and firing thresholds of excitatory and inhibitory neuronal populations. These posterior distributions could be used by other research groups to set prior distributions of parameters of their biologically plausible models, in both experimental and modeling studies."
