"en": "The annual survey studied employee opinion on the quality of working life in Finnish municipalities. Main themes were psychosocial working environment, job characteristics, pay systems, satisfaction with the job, employment security, training and development, capacity to work, and bullying and discrimination at work. The year 2003 survey contained more questions than previously on workplace characteristics. First, the respondents were asked how many years they had worked for the employer they were working for at the time, type of contract, number of persons at the workplace, what kind of changes there had been in staff numbers, working hours, contracts and organisational structure over the past 12 months, and whether people had been transferred to other units. Further questions covered team work, and whether there had been bullying or conflicts at the workplace, between what groups and whether the conflicts had decreased or increased over the past 12 months. Next set of questions covered autonomy and influence at work, overtime and its compensation, and membership in a trade union or professional association. Changes over the past year in workload, physical or mental stress, in access to training, support from supervisors etc were charted as well as pay systems and satisfaction with the workplace. One topic pertained to whether the respondents had presented any ideas to improve working conditions, products, services or working methods at the workplace and whether there had been other development initiatives. Other questions covered workplace characteristics and the respondents' participation in job-related training and development. The respondents were asked how likely it was that they would be dismissed or laid off, or their tasks or working hours would be changed over the next year. Opinions were charted on employment situation in Finland and what kind of changes were happening in working life in, for instance, relating to management style, possibility to influence decisions, the financial situation of their organisation. A number of questions investigated how the employees' capacity to work and occupational health and safety had been taken into account at the workplace, the respondents' sickness absences, illnesses, and estimate of own mental and physical capacity to work. Discrimination at work based on ethnic group, age, gender or contract type was explored. Background variables included the respondent's gender, age, type of municipality, major region (NUTS2), region (NUTS3), occupational group, status in employment, industry of employment, employer type, weekly working hours, additional jobs, industry of additional job, basic and vocational education, whether R worked for a municipality or a federation of municipalities and in which sector. Most background variables were obtained from the Labour Force Survey 2003 telephone interviews.",

Työolobarometrissa on hyödynnetty työvoimatutkimuksen (Tilastokeskus 2003) taustamuuttujia. Taustamuuttujina olivat muun muassa sukupuoli, ikä, alue ja työpaikan toimiala. Työolobarometrin sisällöstä pääosa on pidetty samanlaisena eri vuosina. Vuonna 2003 lisättiin työpaikan luonnetta kuvaavia väittämiä."

"en": "The survey studied public opinion and experiences of the countryside in Finland and beliefs about the significance, development and future of rural areas. The barometer was developed for the Landmarks Programme carried out by the Finnish Innovation Fund (Sitra) to provide the programme with the latest information on the relationship of Finns to the countryside. First, the respondents were asked how important various issues were for them to feel that their life is good (for instance, feeling safe, sufficient income, self-fullfilment, control over their own life, spacious housing, meaningful job, good social relations, easy travel to work, stress-free pace of life) and how satisfied were they with the state of these things in their own life at the time of the survey. Views were probed on what kind of neighbourhood the respondents saw as providing a good life (living in a city, living in a rural area or alternating between living in a rural and an urban area, living in a neighbourhood that is neither rural nor urban). The respondents were asked which areas they saw as part of the countryside (e.g. holiday villages in rural areas, rural population centres, nature areas, rural areas dominated by agricultural areas) and whether they felt themselves to be city residents or rural residents. The respondents were presented with a number of statements relating to the countryside, its image and future development and significance. Some questions covered what the respondents would like the countryside to be like in 2020 and what they believed the countryside would mean to them in 10 years. Further questions explored the respondents' neighbourhood of residence at the time of the survey and in future, and beliefs whether the significance of rural areas would grow or diminish in Finland. Background variables included the respondent's age, gender, region of residence (NUTS3), education, economic activity and occupational status, household composition, number and age of children living at home, annual gross income of the household, type of accommodation, municipality type, R's Internet use, employment sector, employer size, ownership of car, home, holiday home and consumer durables, ownership and type of mobile phone.",
"fi": "Tutkimus kartoittaa maaseudun merkityksiä ja tulevaisuutta. Sen tehtävänä on antaa tietoa suomalaisten maaseutukäsityksistä. Tutkimus on osa Sitran 'Maamerkit - maaseudun merkitykset' -ohjelmaa. Ohjelma käynnistyi vuoden 2010 alussa ja se kestää 5 vuotta. Vastaajilta kysyttiin, miten tärkeitä erilaiset asiat ovat, jotta elämän voisi kokea hyväksi. Esitetyt asiat olivat: elämän turvallisuus, riittävä toimeentulo, elämän tarkoitus, itsensä toteuttaminen, hyvät harrastusmahdollisuudet, kuuluminen johonkin yhteisöön, luonnosta ja vuodenaikojen vaihtelusta nauttiminen, arkielämän hallinta, riittävästi vapautta elämässä, tilava asunto, viihtyisä asuinympäristö, virikkeellinen elinympäristö, helposti saavutettavat palvelut, mielekäs työ, helppo ja sujuva työmatka, kiireetön ja paineeton elämänrytmi, puhdas ja turvallinen ruoka, riittävästi lähimmäisen rakkautta, mahdollisuus vaikuttaa itselle tärkeisiin asioihin, hyvät mahdollisuudet liikkua netissä. Lisäksi kysyttiin miten tyytyväisiä vastaajat ovat näiden asioiden toteutumiseen omassa elämässään. Vastaajilta tiedusteltiin, miten erilaiset asumisen tavat vastaavat toiveita hyvän elämän rakentumisesta. Tällaisia asumistapoja olivat: asuminen kaupungissa, asuminen maaseudulla, asuminen ajoittain ja vaihdellen kaupungissa ja maaseudulla sekä asuminen ympäristössä, joka on luonteeltaan kaupungin ja maaseudun väliltä. Pyydettiin myös vastaajan mielipidettä siitä, millaiset alueet ovat vastaajan mielestä maaseutua. Vastaajilta kysyttiin myös tuntevatko he itsensä maalaisiksi vai kaupunkilaisiksi. Vastaajille esitettiin myös väittämiä maaseudusta ja sen luomista mielikuvista. Näitä olivat väittämät maaseudun säilyttämisestä asuttuna, tehtävän etätyön määrästä ja maaseudun vastaajassa herättämistä mielikuvasta. Lisäksi vastaajilta tiedusteltiin, millaisen he uskoisivat maaseudun merkityksen olevan v. 2020 ja miten he toivoisivat asioiden olevan tuolloin. Esitettyjä maaseudun tulevaisuudenkuvia olivat: siellä asuu paljon ihmisiä, jotka tekevät etätyötä; sen puhdasta luontoa arvostetaan; sen laajaa luomutuotantoa arvostetaan; monimuotoinen turismi kukoistaa siellä; maatalous on huomattavasti tehostunut nykyisestä; siellä on paljon erilaista yritystoimintaa; se on voimakkaasti autioitunut. Lisäksi kysyttiin, mitä maaseutu tulee merkitsemään vastaajalle 10 vuoden kuluttua. Asuuko vastaaja kokonaan tai osittain maaseudulla, tekeekö hän siellä työtä tai etätyötä, omistaako vastaaja palan maaseutua, käykö hän siellä latautumassa vai onko maaseutu hänelle täysin merkityksetön. Taustamuuttujina olivat sukupuoli, ikä, koulutus, ammatti/asema, talouden rakenne, kotona asuvien lasten ikä, talouden koko, talouden bruttotulot sekä paikkakuntatietoja."

Mistä asioista sinun hyvinvointisi muodostuu? Miten ylläpidät hyvinvointiasi? Onko kulttuurilla tai liikunnalla roolia hyvinvoinnissasi? Mikä on muiden ihmisten osuus hyvinvoinnissasi? Kilpailutöistä nousee voimakkaasti esiin hyvinvoinnin lähteinä luonto, terveys, perhe, liikunta, kulttuuri ja oman ajan merkitys. Aineistoon sisältyy yhteensä 72 kirjoitelmaa, jotka on koottu yhdeksi daf2568.rtf -tiedostoksi. Osallistujat saattoivat vaihtoehtoisesti myös halutessaan piirtää kuvan aiheesta tekstin tuottamisen sijaan. Kuvat eivät sisälly arkistoituun aineistoon. Aineistosta on tehty html-versio, jonka hakemiston avulla haastatteluja/kirjoituksia/tms. on helppo selata."

"en": "The survey focuses on parenting and upbringing in Finland, and on the roles of parents and staff working in child day care centres. Views of the parents and the day nursery staff towards parenting were studied. The respondents were asked to what extent they agreed with statements relating to children and child-rearing, and whether the responsibility of teaching certain things to children should lie with the parents, or the day nursery staff. The parents were asked how much support in child-rearing they have received from the child care staff, and the employees were asked whether they think they give sufficient support to parents. Possible conflicts between parents and the staff were also probed. The respondents were asked what things day nurseries should teach, and whether society should increase the financial and educational support it gives to families. They then commented on various statements related to families with children, day care, and work. The parents were asked to describe their relationship with the grandparents, whether they are able to arrange childcare when the children are ill, why their children are in day care centres, and when the day care started. The staff were asked how much support they give to parents, and whether they themselves get enough support at the workplace. Background variables included the respondent's sex, year of birth, education, economic activity, mother tongue, province of residence, and type of the municipality of residence. The parents were asked to state their marital status, spouse's economic activity, number of children living in the household, and the age and sex of their pre-school children. The day nursery employees were asked to name their duties at work, how many years they have worked in the field, number of their own children, and number of pre-school children.",
"fi": "Perhebarometrin teemana on vanhemmuuden toteuttamiseen ja lapsen kasvattamiseen liittyvät asiat. Barometrissa tarkastellaan päiväkoti-ikäisten lasten vanhempien ja päiväkotien henkilökunnan näkemyksiä vanhemmuuden reunaehdoista. Vastaajilta kysyttiin mielipidettä erilaisista lapsiin ja lasten kasvatukseen liittyvistä asioista sekä siitä, pitäisikö vastuun erilaisten asioiden opettamisesta ja kasvatuksesta kuulua vanhemmille vai päiväkodille. Edelleen kysyttiin päiväkodin lasten vanhempien tukemisen tavoista kasvatuksessa. Vanhemmilta kysyttiin tuen saamisesta lasten kasvatuksessa päiväkodin henkilökunnalta ja päiväkodin henkilökunnalta puolestaan mielipidettä vanhemmille annetun tuen riittävyydestä. Lasten kasvatukseen liittyen vanhemmilta kysyttiin mahdollisista ristiriidoista päiväkodin henkilökunnan kanssa ja henkilökunnalta puolestaan ristiriidoista vanhempien kanssa. Kaikilta vastaajilta kysyttiin mielipidettä siitä, mitä asioita päiväkodeissa pitäisi opettaa, mielipidettä lapsiperheisiin, päivähoitoon ja työhön liittyvistä väittämistä sekä yhteiskunnan vastuun lisäämisestä perheiden taloudellisen hyvinvoinnin ja lasten kasvatuksen osalta. Lisäksi kysyttiin yhteydenpidosta isovanhempiin. Vanhemmilta kysyttiin myös sairastuneen lapsen hoitomahdollisuuksista, oman lapsen päivähoidossa olon syitä ja sen aloittamisikää. Henkilökunnalta kysyttiin myös tuen antamisesta vanhemmille lasten kasvatuksessa sekä työpaikalla omaan työhön saatavasta tuesta. Taustamuuttujina ovat sukupuoli, syntymävuosi, koulutus, sosiaaliryhmä, äidinkieli, asuinlääni ja paikkakunnan koko. Vanhemmilla taustamuuttujia ovat näiden lisäksi siviilisääty, vastaajan puolison sosiaaliryhmä, taloudessa asuvien lasten lukumäärä, alle kouluikäisten lasten ikä ja sukupuoli sekä päivähoidossa oleminen. Henkilökunnan taustamuuttujina ovat työtehtävä päiväkodissa, työvuodet päivähoitoalalla sekä vastaajan omien lasten lukumäärä ja omien alle kouluikäisten lasten lukumäärä."

"en": "The survey monitored various aspects of the production, level, necessity and conditions of scientific information. It also canvassed the advantages and risks of techno-scientific progress as well as the ethics of science. The data reflects citizens' conceptions of science, and, to some extent, also their knowledge. Their opinions, assessments, values, attitudes, and future expectations were mapped. The respondents were asked how actively they follow the news, programmes and articles in the different media on various topics. It was separately asked how interested the respondents were in environmental research, medical research, space research, historical research, and education and science policy. It was also asked which sources of information the respondents considered primary in science and research related matters. The respondents were asked to name one present-day and one historically significant Finnish scientist. They also estimated how much they trusted various social institutions, what the status of various matters related to science and research was, and whether they thought science could solve different problems and improve people's lives. Finally, the respondents were presented with several statements concerning science and research. The statements dealt with beliefs, the efficiency of science, relation between science and religion, vivisection, gene technology, technical progress, allocation of research funds, use of scientific information in political decision-making, UFO sightings, nuclear power, and the responsibility of the scientific community. Background variables included respondent's sex, age group, size of the place of residence, county of residence, basic and vocational training, and occupational group.",
"fi": "Aineistossa ovat tarkastelun kohteena erilaiset tieteellisen tiedon tuottamiseen, tasoon, tarpeellisuuteen ja tuotantoedellytyksiin liittyvät näkökohdat, tieteellis-teknisen kehityksen hyödyt ja riskit ja tieteen moraali. Aineistossa on esillä kansalaisten tiedettä koskevat käsitykset, mielipiteet, arviot, arvostukset, asenteet, tulevaisuudenodotukset ja osin tiedotkin. Vastaajilta kysyttiin, kuinka aktiivisesti he seuraavat eri tiedotusvälineistä erilaisia aihepiirejä koskevia uutisia, ohjelmia ja kirjoituksia. Erikseen kysyttiin kuinka kiinnostunut vastaaja on ympäristötutkimuksesta, lääketieteellisestä tutkimuksesta, avaruustutkimuksesta, historiantutkimuksesta ja koulutus- ja tiedepolitiikasta. Edelleen kysyttiin mitkä tietolähteet ovat vastaajalle tärkeimpiä tiedettä ja tutkimusta koskevan tiedon välittäjiä. Vastaajia pyydettiin myös nimeämään yksi nykyisin toimiva ja yksi aikaisemmin toiminut merkittävä suomalainen tieteenharjoittaja ja arvioimaan kuinka paljon hän luottaa erilaisiin yhteiskunnallisiin instituutioihin, kuinka hyvin erilaiset tieteeseen ja tutkimukseen liittyvät asiat ovat maassamme nykyisin ja millaisiksi hän näkee tieteen mahdollisuudet ratkaista erilaisia ongelmia tai tuoda parannusta ihmisten elämään. Lopuksi vastaajalle esitettiin useita väittämiä tieteestä ja tutkimuksesta. Väittämät käsittelivät erilaisia uskomuksia, tieteen tehokkuutta, tieteen ja uskonnon suhdetta, eläinkokeita, geeniteknologiaa, tekniikan kehitystä, tutkimusvarojen kohdentamista, tieteellisen tiedon käyttöä poliittisessa päätöksenteossa, ufo-havaintoja, ydinvoimaa ja tiedeyhteisön toiminnan vastuullisuutta. Taustamuuttujina ovat tiedot vastaajan sukupuolesta, ikäryhmästä, asuinkunnan koosta, asuinmaakunnasta, perus- ja ammattikoulutuksesta ja ammattiryhmästä."

"en": "Respondents in this study were managers or management groups of municipal social services, health centres, employment offices, social and health organisations or local offices of the Social Insurance Institution. Respondents evaluated the welfare of various population groups and their possibilities to enhance it. Respondents were asked whether it was possible to provide the services citizens need with the present resources of the municipalities . They were asked about the changes in the services of their own sector and the effectiveness of these services. The services provided by other sectors and social and health services provided by private enterprises were also evaluated. Respondents were asked to state their opinion on the functionality of the subsistence security systems and on the effects of the unequal income distribution. Social services managers estimated the economic situation of the municipality and the changes in it during 2001. Respondents were asked to estimate the changes in staff numbers and the staff sufficiency, the mood among employees and whether the municipality was able to take care of its employees' occupational training and development. Respondents' views on the socio-economic situation of the municipalities were canvassed. Some respondents were asked to evaluate whether the steps taken to promote the welfare of various children groups were sufficient. Further questions asked their views on the changes in child welfare, on the possibilities to secure the services children need, and on the significance of child ombudsman services (child advocacy services) on the legal status of children. Social services and social and health organisation managers were asked to estimate the significance of various parties in providing welfare. Managers named two reorganised services, evaluated the elements leading to it, named who was responsible for these services before and after the reorganisation and evaluated its effectiveness and impacts on the reciprocal working practices. Social services managers answered questions about their co-operation with other concerned parties. Finally, social and health organisations evaluated the significance of the third sector and their own organisation in providing welfare. They were also asked about the organisation's units, areas of focus, geographical area of operations, activities and the usefulness of employment subsidies to the organisation. Background variables include, for example, province and regional variables.",

Vastaajilta tiedusteltiin myös mielipidettä kuntien sosiaalis-taloudellisesta tilanteesta. Osalta vastaajista pyydettiin arviota eri lapsiryhmien hyvinvoinnin ja sen tukemiseen kohdistuvien toimenpiteiden riittävyydestä. Edelleen heiltä kysyttiin mielipidettä lastensuojeluun liittyvien asioiden muutoksista, arviota lasten tarvitsemien eri palveluiden turvaamismahdollisuuksista ja mahdollisten lapsiasiamiespalvelujen merkityksestä lapsen oikeudellisen aseman kannalta. Sosiaalitointa sekä sosiaali- ja terveysjärjestöjä pyydettiin arvioimaan eri tahojen nykyistä ja tulevaa merkitystä hyvinvoinnin toteuttamisessa. Niitä pyydettiin mainitsemaan myös kaksi uudelleen organisoitua palveluaan ja arvioimaan tähän vaikuttaneita eri tekijöitä, luettelemaan näistä palveluista vastanneet tahot sekä ennen niiden uudelleen organisointia että sen jälkeen ja lopuksi arvioimaan niiden toimivuutta ja vaikutuksia eri tahojen keskinäisiin työkäytäntöihin. Sosiaalitoimelta kysyttiin myös eri työmuotojen kohdalla yhteistyöstä muiden toimijoiden kanssa. Lisäksi sosiaali- ja terveysjärjestöiltä kysyttiin sekä yleensä kolmannen sektorin että myös oman järjestön merkitystä erilaisten, hyvinvointiin ja sen takaamiseen liittyvien asioiden osalta. Niiltä kysyttiin myös järjestön toimintayksiköistä, toiminnan painopistealueista, maantieteellisestä toiminta-alueesta, eri toimintamuodoista ja erilaisista työntekijöiden työllistämismuodoista järjestön toiminnan kannalta. "en": "The survey studied the opinions of municipal leaders (municipal managers and chairpersons of municipal executive boards) on how to improve municipal finances. Respondents evaluated how acceptable and effective certain measures would be: e.g. borrowing, increasing taxes, cutting or privatizing services, introducing service fees, delaying investments, accountability in municipal institutions, reducing salaries, laying off/reducing staff, reducing governmental control. Respondents were asked to what extent they agreed with a number of statements relating to municipal finances, administration, services, taxation and democracy, the number and size of municipalities, relations between the government and municipalities and the effects of EU membership etc. Opinions on the preferred measures to cut municipal expenditure were charted: should municipalities increase local taxes, cut services or make citizens pay for them, and which services could be cut. Respondents were also asked which of the services currently provided by municipalities could be left to other bodies (governmental or non-governmental organizations, private enterprises or citizens themselves). The survey carried a set of attitudinal questions about the consolidation of municipalities. "fi": "Vuoden 1993 Kunnallisalan ilmapuntarissa tiedusteltiin kunnan- ja kaupunginjohtajien sekä kunnan- ja kaupunginhallitusten puheenjohtajien suhtautumista erilaisiin kuntatalouden kohentamistoimiin. Heiltä kysyttiin miten tehokkaina ja miten hyväksyttävinä talouden kohentamiskeinoina he pitävät veroäyrin korottamista, lainanottoa, palvelujen karsimista ja niiden yksityistämistä, palvelumaksuja, omaisuuden myyntiä, investointien karsimista, kuntaliitoksia, kuntien välistä yhteistyötä, henkilöstön vähentämistä ja lomauttamista, palkkojen alentamista, luottamushenkilöorganisaation karsimista, tulosvastuun soveltamista kuntien virastoissa ja laitoksissa, valtion kuntiin kohdistaman valvonnan lisäämistä ja vähentämistä sekä kuntalaisten vaikutusmahdollisuuksien lisäämistä. Heiltä tiedusteltiin myös, mitkä olisivat soveliaita menojen karsintakohteita. Lisäksi kartoitettiin asenteita, jotka koskivat mm. kunnan ja kaupunginjohtajien ja johtavien virkamiesten virkojen määräaikaisuutta, vaalitapaa, kuntaliitoksia, kunnallisia palveluita tarjoavien laitosten liikelaitostamista, kunnan työntekijöiden työtehoa, kunnallista itsehallintoa, Euroopan unioniin liittymisen vaikutusta kotikuntaan, ulkomaalaisia ja pakolaisia. Haastatelluilta kysyttiin myös heidän suhtautumistaan Euroopan unionin jäsenyyteen. Kunnan- ja kaupunginjohtajilta sekä kunnan- ja kaupunginhallitusten puheenjohtajilta selvitettiin heidän suhtautumistaan valtion ja kuntien väliseen työnjakoon ja informaationvaihtoon. Heitä pyydettiin myös arvioimaan kuntien yhteistyön hyödyllisyyttä eri tahojen kanssa sekä valtionohjauksen nykytilaa ja lähitulevaisuuden kehitysnäkymiä. Taustamuuttujia olivat vastaajan sukupuoli, asema kunnan hallinnossa, kunnan koko ja sen sijaintilääni."

"en": "The survey studied the extent, frequency and nature of self-reported offending among Finns aged 15-16 and their attitudes towards crime. Questions covered truancy, running away from home, using public transport without paying, driving without a licence, doing graffiti, vandalising school property or other property, shoplifting, stealing from school or home, car theft and buying stolen goods. If the respondents admitted to having committed any of these offences, they were asked about their age at the time and whether the police had been notified. Recent incidents were charted more thoroughly (whether they had been alone or with friends, value of the stolen goods etc.). The respondents were also asked whether they had experienced phases during which they did more shoplifting than usual. Some questions charted the respondents' participation in drink-driving, bullying, fights, assaults and use of marijuana, hashish or other illegal drugs. The survey carried a set of attitudinal questions about sexual offences (especially rape), the acceptability of breaking the law, sentencing, reasons of young people for breaking the law, and the acceptability of different offences and actions. The respondents were asked how likely it was that they themselves would commit certain offences in the future (truancy, shoplifting, assaults, use of mild drugs). Their experiences of being victims of bullying, thefts, physical attacks or threats were also questioned. Girls were asked if they had experienced sexual harassment. Last set of questions covered respondents' health problems. Background variables included, among others, respondents' sex, age, academic achievement, employment status, use of money, leisure activities, dating, alcohol use, smoking, punishments received from parents, parents' occupation and employment status. There were also two variables connected to type of municipality.",

Tutkimuksessa kysyttiin kaikilta vastaajilta myös mielipidettä erilaisiin väittämiin. Väittämissä käsiteltiin mm. seuraavia aiheita: rangaistuksen lieventäminen asianhaaroista johtuen, lainvastaisen toiminnan normaalius murrosiässä, rikollisuuden syyt, näpistämisen vakavuus rikoksena ja seksuaalirikokset. Lisäksi vastaajia pyydettiin arvioimaan tulevatko he tulevaisuudessa tekemään seuraavanlaisia kiellettyjä asioita: koulusta pinnaaminen, pummilla ajaminen, näpistäminen, varkaus, lievä pahoinpitely ja miedon huumeen käyttö. Vastaajilta tiedusteltiin myös, onko heidän mielestään normaalia, jos nuori rikkoo vanhempiensa määräämiä sääntöjä, koulun sääntöjä tai lakia. Tutkimuksessa kysyttiin myös vastaajaan itseensä kohdistuneita väkivallantekoja. Tytöiltä kysyttiin erityisesti seksuaaliseen ahdisteluun liittyviä asioita. "en": "The survey focused on the well-being of staff in primary and secondary schools and upper secondary institutions in Finland. Staff opinions on school facilities, working conditions, social relationships, and means for self-fulfilment in school were studied, as well as their perceived health status. The survey contained both statements and multiple choice questions. The respondents indicated to what extent they agreed with the statements using a five-point scale (i.e. from \"strongly agree\" to \"strongly disagree\"). School facilities were studied with a number of questions about the classroom (e.g. size, temperature, ventilation, desks), toilet facilities, the dining room, the schoolyard and the school building (e.g. safety, functionality). Access to the school nurse and counselling supervision were charted as well as opinions on the school timetable, school rules and punishments, order in the classroom, pace of work, and the workload. The statements relating to social relationships canvassed relations between staff members and between staff members and students. The survey also covered opinions on whether parents were participating in solving problems concerning their children or in developing the school, and whether parents appreciated the work done by the staff or were willing to discuss issues with teachers if needed. Views were probed on whether the staff were treated equally, and whether it was easy to get along with the headmaster or get help from him/her if needed. In addition, the respondents were asked whether they had been bullied or harassed at work during the ongoing term and whether they themselves had bullied or harassed someone else. The statements on self-fulfilment explored different aspects of working in a school. Views were probed on whether staff opinions were taken into account in developing the school and in drawing up school rules, and whether the school encouraged staff to express their views. The respondents were asked whether they felt that their work is appreciated, whether they had found a suitable method for doing their work, and whether they received help from the headmaster/their supervisor if needed. Regarding health, the respondents were asked about their perceived general health and whether they had had various symptoms (e.g. stomach ache, sleeping problems, headache, fear, anxiety) during the ongoing term. Background variables included the respondent's gender, working hours (part-time or full time), number of years working in the school, and type of contract.",

Vastaajilta kysytään esimerkiksi yhteistyön sujumisesta, työtoverien toisilleen tarjoamasta avusta, oppilaiden ystävällisyydestä ja onko rehtorin kanssa helppo tulla toimeen. Henkilökunta arvioi myös, arvostavatko oppilaiden vanhemmat koulun työtä ja osallistuvatko he lastaan koskevien ongelmien selvittämiseen. Lisäksi kartoitetaan esiintyykö työyhteisössä työpaikkakiusaamista ja onko vastaaja itse työpaikkakiusaamisen kohteena kyseisessä koulussa. Itsensä toteuttamisen mahdollisuuksiin liittyvät väittämät koskevat työskentelyä koulussa. Esimerkiksi kokeeko vastaaja, että hänen työtään arvostetaan kouluyhteisössä, hänen mielipiteensä otetaan huomioon koulun kehittämisessä ja onko vastaaja löytänyt itselleen sopivan työskentelytavan, arvostaako hän omaa työtään koulussa ja saako hän tarvitessaan apua rehtorilta/esimieheltä. Terveydentilaa koskevissa kysymyksissä vastaaja arvioi onko hänellä ollut erilaisia oireita ja sairauksia (mm. vatsakipuja, vaikeuksia päästä uneen tai heräilemistä öisin, päänsärkyä, alakuloisuutta ja pelkoa) kuluvan lukukauden aikana. Taustakysymykset ovat sukupuoli, työuran pituus kyseisessä koulussa, työsuhteen laatu ja työskentelyn kokopäiväisyys/osa-aikaisuus."

"en": "The Local government barometer 1993 probed citizens' opinions on different means of improving the financial state of Finnish municipalities. The respondents were asked, for example, how efficient and appropriate it would be to raise municipal taxes, cut down or privatise services, increase loans, collect service fees, sell public property, stall investments, promote consolidations of municipalities or municipal co-operation, denounce or lay off employees, cut down employee wages, reduce the number of elected officials, introduce profit responsibility into civil service departments and organisations, increase or decrease state control, and increase citizen influence on municipal matters. Respondents were, furthermore, monitored on attitudes towards the fixed-term contracts of senior civil servants and municipal / city managers, electoral system, consolidation of municipalities, work efficiency of municipal employees, municipal self-government, the impact of the EU membership on one's home municipality, foreigners and refugees, and turning public service organisations into public utilities. They were also asked to describe their political views and attitudes towards the EU membership. The respondents were asked how much money their families should have in order to manage barely, manage reasonably well, and extremely well. Background variables included respondent's gender, age, basic education, vocational education, marital status, household's gross income, age structure, number of household members, occupational group of the head of the household, type of neighbourhood, and the province of residence.",

"en": "The survey was targeted to municipal councillors in Finland who stood down at the 1996 local elections. The main objective was to study their reasons for not standing as a candidate for the council. Respondents were asked whether they held elective offices in their political party or in local government, regional or central government. The total length of time respondents had held offices in local/regional/central government was charted. Respondents were asked whether they aimed to give up other elective offices, in addition to standing down as councillors. Participation in municipal council meetings and anticipatory group meetings were surveyed. Support for council participation received from spouses, family members, employers, colleagues, trade union, friends and the party was evaluated. Views were probed on the municipality's attitude towards local politics. Perceived conflicts between home life, employment, leisure, other elective offices, and council membership were investigated. The survey carried a set of reasons for standing down at the election, and asked respondents to rate the importance of each reason in their decision to depart the council. Personal reasons stated included age, long experience as councillor, health problems, difficulty to fit in council duties with the burdens of home life and work, lack of knowledge, time demands of acting as a councillor, inadequacy of financial compensation, change in personal circumstances. Reasons connected to the municipal organisation included lack of influence, problems with the balance of power between administrators and council, and public attitude towards local politicians. Reasons connected to party politics included lack of personal influence in the party, lack of support from the party, disagreement with party line, conflict within or between party groups in the council, lack of influence of the party. Background variables included the respondent's year of birth, sex, mother tongue, marital status, number of under-age children, length of residence in the municipality, education, employment status, employer type, party membership and length of membership.",

Vastaajia pyydettiin myös arvioimaan heidän oman kuntansa suhtautumista kunnallispolitiikkaan. Lisäksi pyrittiin selvittämään vastaajien kokemia henkilökohtaisia ristiriitoja ja ongelmia muun muassa työn, kodin ja luottamustehtävien hoidon välillä. Lopuksi kysyttiin vastaajien syitä olla asettumatta ehdokkaaksi vuoden 1996 kunnallisvaaleissa. Henkilökohtaisista syistä vastausvaihtoehtoina olivat muun muassa ikä, terveyssyyt, jaksaminen ja raha. Kuntaorganisaatioon liittyvistä syistä vastausvaihtoehtoina olivat muun muassa vaikutusvallan puute ja työn epäkiitollisuus. Omaan puolueeseen liittyvinä syinä vaihtoehtoina oli esimerkiksi ristiriidat eri puolueryhmien välillä ja tuen puute. Taustamuuttjina olivat muun muuassa vastaajan syntymävuosi, sukupuoli, äidinkieli, siviilisääty, lasten lukumäärä, koulutus, ammattiasema ja puoluejäsenyys."

Current employment situation, employment history before and after graduation, and experiences of unemployment after graduation were investigated. The respondents were asked about the nature of the current job and whether the job was commensurate with their qualifications. One topic covered job searching methods used. The respondents were also asked which factors were most important in obtaining their current job and which factors may have hindered or prevented them from finding a job. "fi": "Tutkimuksessa selvitettiin Tampereen yliopistosta 2008 valmistuneiden sijoittumista työelämään sekä tarkasteltiin erilaisia työnhakuun liittyviä tekijöitä. Vastaajilta tiedusteltiin tämänhetkistä työtilannetta, työssäolokuukausia yleensä, työssäolokuukausia koulutusta vastaavissa tehtävissä sekä työttömyyskuukausien määrää valmistumisen jälkeen ennen ensimmäistä työpaikkaa. Lisäksi kartoitettiin, minkälaisissa töissä vastaajat ovat opiskeluaikoinaan mahdollisesti olleet. Työssäolevilta vastaajilta kysyttiin nykyisen työnantajan tyyppiä, ammattinimikettä ja päätyön luonnetta. Heiltä tiedusteltiin myös, mitkä olivat tärkeimmät hakukanavat nykyisen työpaikan saamisessa ja kuinka paljon eri tekijät vaikuttivat myönteisesti työpaikan saamiseen. Kaikilta kysyttiin, mitkä tekijät ovat mahdollisesti vaikeuttaneet tai estäneet työllistymistä koulutustasoa vastaaviin tehtäviin. Lopuksi kartoitettiin tyytyväisyyttä tutkintoon. Vastaajia pyydettiin arvioimaan, kuinka paljon heidän nykyiset työtehtävänsä vastaavat vaatimustasoltaan yliopistollista tutkintoa. Lisäksi kysyttiin, miten tyytyväisiä vastaajat ovat Tampereen yliopistossa annettuun opetustarjontaan ja heitä pyydettiin kertomaan omin sanoin, mihin he ovat erityisen tyytyväisiä ja tyytymättömiä. Vastaajia pyydettiin myös punnitsemaan, kuinka paljon yliopisto-opiskelu on kehittänyt työelämässä hyödyllisiä tieto- ja taitoalueita, kuten omaan alaan liittyvää teoreettista ja käytännön osaamista, tiedonhankintataitoja sekä ongelmanratkaisukykyä. "en": "The survey studied the attitudes of small municipality inhabitants to people from other cultures. Ruukki municipality (Finland) was selected for the study because it had received asylum seekers from the year 1993 onwards and, after the Second World War, had received evacuees from the region of Karelia which Finland had lost to the Soviet Union in the war. Questions covered, for instance, whether the respondents had ever lived abroad, their and other people's attitudes towards asylum seekers, interaction with asylum seekers, knowledge of and interest in the issue, migration from Finland to other countries in the 1960s, acceptable reasons for seeking asylum, and knowledge of and attitudes to the Karelian evacuation. Views on the municipality and the impact of people moving in were surveyed. Further questions measured the degree of community solidarity and authoritarian personality. Background variables included the respondent's age, gender, marital status, number of children, whether R had been born in Ruukki and if not, number of years of residence, basic and vocational education, job contract, language skills, R's and spouse's economic activity, and whether R or any other member of the family had been a Karelian evacuee.",
"fi": "Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli tuottaa tieteellistä tietoa siitä, kuinka pienehkön kunnan asukkaat asennoituivat kunnassaan asuviin erilaisten kulttuurien edustajiin. Ruukkilaisten (n=244) asennoitumista karjalaisiin ja turvapaikanhakijoihin selvitettiin postikyselyllä syksyllä 1994. Tapaustutkimus suunnattiin Ruukkiin, koska kuntaan oli sijoitettu sotien jälkeen karjalaisevakoita ja vuodesta 1993 se oli vastaanottanut turvapaikanhakijoita. Lomakkeella selvitettiin aluksi taustatietoja, kuten ikää, perhesuhteita, syntyperää, pohjakoulutusta, omaa ja puolison työtilannetta, sekä oliko suvussa karjalaisia evakkoja tai ulkomaalaisia. Seuraavaksi selvitettiin muun muassa kielitaitoa, oliko vastaajalla ulkomaalaisia ystäviä, mistä vastaaja ajatteli turvapaikanhakijoita tulleen Ruukkiin ja kuinka hän katsoi tuttaviensa suhtautuvan turvapaikanhakijoihin. Seuraavaksi selvitettiin turvapaikanhakijoiden ja vastaajan välistä kanssakäymistä, kuinka vastaaja seurasi turvapaikanhakijoista käytävää keskustelua, kuinka hän arveli Ruukkilaisten suhtautuvan turvapaikanhakijoihin, ja kuinka hänen suhtautumisensa oli muuttunut viimeisen vuoden aikana. Mielipiteitä siirtolaisuudesta selvitettiin tiedustelemalla, mitä vastaaja piti hyväksyttävänä syynä siirtolaisuudelle, minkä vuoksi hän voisi muuttaa ulkomaille, ja mitkä syyt hän hyväksyi Suomeen ja Ruukkiin tulon syiksi. Mielipiteitä karjalaisten asuttamisesta selvitettiin erilaisin kysymyksin. Seuraavaksi esitettiin turvapaikanhakijoihin liittyviä väitteitä, joihin vastaajat ottivat kantaa likert -asteikolla. Ruukkia ja Ruukissa asumista koskevia asenteita selvitettiin yhteensä 32 väittämällä. Vastaajat ottivat kantaa Fesslerin solidaarisuusindeksi- ja autoritaarinen persoonallisuus -teorian mukaisilla väittämillä. Solidaarisuusindeksin väittämät käsittelivät muun muassa kunnan johtajaa, kunnan valtuustoa, uskontosuuntien yhteiseloa, turvallisuutta, nuorille annettuja valmiuksia ja lasten kasvatusta. Seuraavaksi esitettiin Adornon ja hänen tutkimusryhmänsä kehittämän autoritaarinen persoonallisuus -teorian mukaisia väittämiä, jotka käsittelevät nuorisoa, läheisyyttä, homoseksuaalisuutta, yksityisyyttä ja esimerkiksi ihmisten jakautumista heikkoihin ja vahvoihin. Lopuksi tiedusteltiin muun muassa oliko vastaaja jäänyt työttömäksi, leskeksi tai pakkolomalle, oliko avio- tai avoliitto päättynyt, sekä miksi hän oli asioinut kansaneläkelaitoksella tai sosiaalitoimistossa. Taustamuuttujina olivat esimerkiksi ikä, sukupuoli, pohjakoulutus, perhesuhteet, ammatti ja syntyperä."

"en": "The survey focused on school well-being in upper secondary institutions in Finland, studying student opinions on school facilities, the learning environment, social relationships in school, and means for self-fulfilment in school, as well as the students' perceived health status. The survey contained both statements and multiple choice questions. The respondents indicated to what extent they agreed with the statements using a five-point scale (i.e. from \"strongly agree\" to \"strongly disagree\"). School facilities were studied with a number of questions about the classroom (e.g. size, temperature, ventilation, desks), toilet facilities, the dining room, the schoolyard and the school building (e.g. safety, functionality). Access to and trust in the school nurse and the school welfare officer were charted as well as opinions on the school timetable, school rules and punishments and the amount of school work. The statements relating to social relationships canvassed student-student relationships (e.g. classmate support, being accepted by others) and teacher-student relationships (e.g. fairness and friendliness of teachers). Parental attitudes to homework and school were studied. Views on the learning environment were probed with questions on help and encouragement received from teachers, group work in the classroom, access to remedial teaching or special education, and order in the classroom. In addition, the respondents were asked whether they had been bullied at school during the ongoing term and whether they themselves had bullied someone else. The survey also studied whether student opinions were taken into account in developing the school and in drawing up school rules (school democracy), and whether teachers encouraged students to express their views. Views were probed on whether the respondents felt they could follow the lessons, concentrate on their work, do their school work, and whether they knew their weaknesses and strengths in school matters, appreciated their school work, felt there were subjects at school and school clubs that interested them, had found a study method that suited them, and whether the pace of the lessons was suitable for them. Regarding health, the respondents were asked about their perceived general health and whether they had had various symptoms (e.g. stomach ache, sleeping problems, headache, fear, anxiety) during the ongoing term. Background variables included the respondent's gender, age, year of study, and group id.",

Kyselyn teemat ovat oppilaitoksen olosuhteet, sosiaaliset suhteet, itsensä toteuttamisen mahdollisuudet ja terveydentila. Kysymykset on esitetty väittäminä ja monivalintakysymyksinä. "en": "The survey focused on school well-being in grades 4-6 in Finland, studying pupil opinions on school facilities, the learning environment, social relationships in school, and means for self-fulfilment in school, as well as the pupils' perceived health status. The survey contained both statements and multiple choice questions. The respondents indicated to what extent they agreed with the statements using a three-point scale (i.e. \"agree\", \"neither agree nor disagree\" and \"disagree\"). School facilities were studied with a number of questions about the classroom (e.g. size, temperature), toilet facilities, the dining room, the schoolyard and the school building (e.g. safety, functionality). Opinions on the school timetable and access to the school nurse were charted. The statements relating to social relationships canvassed pupil-pupil relationships (e.g. classmate support, having friends at school) and teacher-pupil relationships. Parental attitudes to homework and school were studied. Views on the learning environment were probed with questions on help and encouragement received from teachers, group work in the classroom, access to remedial teaching or special education, and order in the classroom. In addition, the respondents were asked whether they had been bullied at school during the ongoing term and whether they themselves had bullied someone else. The survey also studied whether teachers listened to pupils and whether pupils' opinions were taken into account when school rules were decided (school democracy). Views were probed on whether the pace of the lessons was suitable, whether the respondents felt they could follow the lessons and keep up with homework, whether they considered school work important, and whether they felt there were subjects at school and school clubs that interested them. Regarding health, the respondents were asked about their perceived general health and whether they had had various symptoms (e.g. stomach ache, sleeping problems, headache, depression, and anxiety) during the ongoing term. Background variables included the respondent's gender, age, grade, and class id.",

The survey also covered opinions on whether parents were participating in solving problems concerning their children or in developing the school, and whether parents appreciated the work done by the staff or were willing to discuss issues with teachers if needed. Views were probed on whether the staff were treated equally, and whether it was easy to get along with the headmaster or get help from him/her if needed. In addition, the respondents were asked whether they had been bullied or harassed at work during the ongoing term and whether they themselves had bullied or harassed someone else. The survey also studied whether staff opinions were taken into account in developing the school and in drawing up school rules, and whether the school encouraged staff to express their views. The respondents were asked whether they appreciated their work, felt they could concentrate on their work and cope with their tasks, knew their strengths and weaknesses, had found a suitable method to do the work, whether the pace at work was suitable for them, and whether they found their work interesting. Regarding health, the respondents were asked about their perceived general health and whether they had had various symptoms (e.g. stomach ache, sleeping problems, headache, fear, anxiety) during the ongoing term. "en": "The survey focused on school well-being in upper secondary institutions in Finland, studying student opinions on school facilities, the learning environment, social relationships in school, and means for self-fulfilment in school, as well as the students' perceived health status. The survey contained both statements and multiple choice questions. The respondents indicated to what extent they agreed with the statements using a five-point scale (i.e. from \"strongly agree\" to \"strongly disagree\"). School facilities were studied with a number of questions about the classroom (e.g. size, temperature, ventilation, desks), toilet facilities, the dining room, the schoolyard and the school building (e.g. safety, functionality). Access to and trust in the school nurse and the school welfare officer were charted as well as opinions on the school timetable, school rules and punishments and the amount of school work. The statements relating to social relationships canvassed student-student relationships (e.g. classmate support, being accepted by others) and teacher-student relationships (e.g. fairness and friendliness of teachers). Parental attitudes to homework and school were studied. Views on the learning environment were probed with questions on help and encouragement received from teachers, group work in the classroom, access to remedial teaching or special education, and order in the classroom. In addition, the respondents were asked whether they had been bullied at school during the ongoing term and whether they themselves had bullied someone else. The survey also studied whether student opinions were taken into account in developing the school and in drawing up school rules (school democracy), and whether teachers encouraged students to express their views. Views were probed on whether the respondents felt they could follow the lessons, concentrate on their work, do their school work, and whether they knew their weaknesses and strengths in school matters, appreciated their school work, felt there were subjects at school and school clubs that interested them, had found a study method that suited them, and whether the pace of the lessons was suitable for them. Regarding health, the respondents were asked about their perceived general health and whether they had had various symptoms (e.g. stomach ache, sleeping problems, headache, fear, anxiety) during the ongoing term. Background variables included the respondent's gender, age, year of study, and group id.",

"en": "The survey focused on school well-being in grades 4-6 in Finland, studying pupil opinions on school facilities, the learning environment, social relationships in school, and means for self-fulfilment in school, as well as the pupils' perceived health status. The survey contained both statements and multiple choice questions. The respondents indicated to what extent they agreed with the statements using a three-point scale (i.e. \"agree\", \"neither agree nor disagree\" and \"disagree\"). School facilities were studied with a number of questions about the classroom (e.g. size, temperature), toilet facilities, the dining room, the schoolyard and the school building (e.g. safety, functionality). Opinions on the school timetable and access to the school nurse were charted. The statements relating to social relationships canvassed pupil-pupil relationships (e.g. classmate support, having friends at school) and teacher-pupil relationships. Parental attitudes to homework and school were studied. Views on the learning environment were probed with questions on help and encouragement received from teachers, group work in the classroom, access to remedial teaching or special education, and order in the classroom. In addition, the respondents were asked whether they had been bullied at school during the ongoing term and whether they themselves had bullied someone else. The survey also studied whether teachers listened to pupils and whether pupils' opinions were taken into account when school rules were decided (school democracy). Views were probed on whether the pace of the lessons was suitable, whether the respondents felt they could follow the lessons and keep up with homework, whether they considered school work important, and whether they felt there were subjects at school and school clubs that interested them. Regarding health, the respondents were asked about their perceived general health and whether they had had various symptoms (e.g. stomach ache, sleeping problems, headache, depression, and anxiety) during the ongoing term. Background variables included the respondent's gender, age, grade, and class id.",
"fi": "Tässä aineistossa tarkastellaan 4-6-luokkalaisten, peruskoulua käyvien oppilaiden hyvinvointia koulussa. Kyselyn teemat ovat koulun olosuhteet, sosiaaliset suhteet, itsensä toteuttamisen mahdollisuudet ja terveydentila. Kysymykset on esitetty väittäminä ja monivalintakysymyksinä. Väittämiä arvioidaan kolmeportaisella asteikolla \"samaa mieltä\", \"ei samaa eikä eri mieltä\" ja \"eri mieltä\". Koulun olosuhteita kartoittavat kysymykset liittyvät koulun tiloihin ja toimintaan. Oppilailta kysytään esimerkiksi luokkahuoneen koosta, lämpötilasta, wc-tiloista sekä pihan ja koulurakennuksen viihtyisyydestä ja turvallisuudesta. He arvioivat myös oppituntien työrauhaa, lukujärjestystä ja onko terveydenhoitajan luo helppo päästä käymään. Itsensä toteuttamisen mahdollisuuksiin liittyvät väittämät koskevat koulutyötä. Esimerkiksi kokeeko vastaaja, että opettaja kuuntelee hänen mielipiteitään, huomioidaanko oppilaiden mielipiteitä koulun asioissa, huolehtiiko vastaaja kouluasioistaan, pitääkö hän koulutyötä tärkeänä ja saako hän tarvitessaan tukiopetusta. Terveydentilaa koskevissa kysymyksissä vastaaja arvioi onko hänellä ollut erilaisia oireita ja sairauksia (mm. vatsakipu, vaikeudet päästä uneen tai heräileminen öisin, päänsärky, alakuloisuus ja pelko) kuluvan lukukauden aikana. Taustakysymykset ovat sukupuoli, ikä, luokka-aste ja luokkatunnus."
