"en": "The data consist of 23 face-to-face interviews studying the thoughts of Finnish elite power brokers on the media and its influence on their work. The example case in these interviews was the labour conflict and wages debate of Finnish nurses during 2006-2007. Before parliamentary elections, a major political party had promised nurses a 24% pay raise. A lively media debate followed when the main trade union of nurses demanded the promised wage increase, announcing a mass resignation of nurses unless the demand was met. The parliament passed an emergency bill which would enable employers to order healthcare personnel to remain at jobs considered essential for patient safety. The interviews covered what kind of impact the media publicity had had on the negotiations and decision-making regarding issue, who had real power to influence the issue, the relationship between the media and the interviewees' organisation, and how the organisation used and kept contact with the media. Views were also probed on the power of the media and mediatization. The interviewees were representatives of the stakeholder employer organisations and trade unions, political parties and public authorities. The interviews were part of the research project \"Media as a holder and a vehicle of power\" conducted by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Tampere. "fi": "Haastattelujen aiheena on 2006-2007 hoitohenkilöstön palkkausta koskeva kiista, jossa eduskuntavaalien kampanjoinnista ja julkisista (mutta kiistellyistä) vaalilupauksista nousi laajasti mediassa käsitelty kamppailu, jossa kyseenalaistettiin monia perinteisiä työmarkkinatoiminnan pelisääntöjä. Haastateltavina oli kiistan keskeisiä henkilöitä työnantaja- ja työntekijäjärjestöistä, hallituspuolueista ja oppositiosta sekä virkamieskunnasta. Lisäksi haastateltavien joukossa oli kansalaisjärjestöjen edustajia ja yliopistossa työskenteleviä asiantuntijoita. Ensimmäiset haastattelut tehtiin kiistan vielä ollessa käynnissä loka-marraskuussa 2007. Pääosa haastatteluista tehtiin palkkaratkaisun syntymisen jälkeen joulukuussa 2007 ja tammikuussa 2008. Haastatteluissa kartoitettiin haastateltavan ja hänen taustaorganisaationsa roolia, toimintatapoja sekä virallisia ja epävirallisia tapaamisia ja neuvotteluja hoitajien palkkakiistan eri vaiheissa. Lisäksi haastateltavia pyydettiin arvioimaan eri osapuolten toimia palkkakiistassa. Haastateltavat kuvasivat organisaatioidensa viestintää ja median hallintaa sekä ylipäänsä mediajulkisuutta ja sen merkitystä hoitajien palkkakiistassa. Haastateltavat kuvasivat myös, miten he itse seuraavat mediaa. Haastatteluja on kaikkiaan 23 ja niiden keskimääräinen pituus litteroituna on 25 sivua. Haastattelut on tehty osana laajaa tutkimusprojektia nimeltään Media vallankäyttäjänä ja vallankäytön välineenä. "en": "The study charted the relationship between the media and political decision-making in Finland. Representatives of the Finnish decision-making system answered questions focusing on themes such as the use of power in the Finnish society, media use, cooperation between decision-makers and journalists, influence of the media on decision-making, and journalism and political publicity. The data are part of \"Media as a Holder and a Vehicle of Power\" research project. The aim of this survey was to test the findings derived from the interviews conducted by the project with a larger sample and to complement some of the themes and interpretations that emerged during the interviews. First, the respondents' status, gender, and age group were queried. Next, their views on power in Finnish society were charted by presenting them with a set of attitudinal statements. The respondents also evaluated to what extent their influence or authority was based on official position, the financial resources of the organisation, expertise, connections, and visibility in the media. In addition, they evaluated the changes in the influence or authority of various public actors (e.g. trade unions, Parliament, the European Union, police, civic organisations) in the past twenty years. The respondents' media use was canvassed by asking how often they follow various media. They were also asked whether co-operation with journalists had increased, whether they received information from journalists, and whether they had conducted any confidential background discussions with journalists about how they should react to an issue at hand. The respondents evaluated the frequency of their performances in various media. Further questions charted the respondents' external communication and media strategies. They were asked for example whether they had been able to bring the desired points of view into public, whether their organisation influenced through direct contacts with decision-makers or through the media, whether they experienced appearing in entertainment publicity as beneficial, and whether they avoided publishing objectives or opinions related to unfinished issues. The influence of the media on the respondents' and others' decision-making was investigated by asking them to give their opinions on a set of statements on the topic. The respondents' views were also probed on journalism and political publicity. They were asked, for instance, whether they experienced factual journalism was tabloidising, whether they felt journalism avoided issues unpleasant to decision-makers, and whether journalism stimulated diversified public discussion. Finally, the respondents were asked whether journalism mostly reflected the attitudes and values of citizens, decision-makers, or journalists. Background variables included the respondent's age group, status, and gender.",

Aluksi vastaajilta kysyttiin asemaa, sukupuolta ja ikäryhmää. Seuraavaksi vastaajat arvioivat, missä määrin heidän oma vaikutusvaltansa perustui mm. viralliseen asemaan, organisaation taloudellisiin resursseihin, asiantuntemukseen, suhteisiin ja medianäkyvyyteen. Vastaajat arvioivat erilaisten yhteiskunnallisten toimijoiden, kuten ammattiyhdistysten, eduskunnan, Euroopan unionin, poliisin ja kansalaisjärjestöjen vaikutusvallan kehitystä viimeisen kahdenkymmenen vuoden aikana. Vastaajien median käyttöä selvitettiin kysymällä, kuinka usein he seurasivat erilaisia viestimiä. Lisäksi vastaajilta kysyttiin mm. oliko yhteistyö toimittajien kanssa lisääntynyt, saivatko he toimittajilta tietoa ja oliko heillä luottamuksellisia keskusteluja toimittajien kanssa siitä, kuinka johonkin vireillä olevaan asiaan tulisi suhtautua. Vastaajat arvioivat, kuinka usein he esiintyivät erilaisissa medioissa. Seuraavaksi siirryttiin selvittämään vastaajien ulkoista viestintää ja mediastrategioita. Vastaajilta kysyttiin mm. saivatko he haluamansa näkökulmat hyvin journalistiseen julkisuuteen, vaikutettiinko heidän organisaatiossaan suorien päättäjäkontaktien vai median avulla, kokivatko he viihteellisessä julkisuudessa esiintymisen hyödyllisenä ja välttivätkö tavoitteiden tai mielipiteiden julkaisua keskeneräisissä asioissa. Median vaikutusta omaan ja muiden päätöksentekoon selvitettiin pyytämällä vastaajia ottamaan kantaa tätä koskeviin väittämiin. Lopuksi selvitettiin vastaajien näkemyksiä journalismista ja poliittisesta julkisuudesta. Vastaajilta kysyttiin esimerkiksi, kokivatko he asiajournalismin viihteellistyvän, katsoivatko journalismin välttelevän vallanpitäjille epämieluisia kysymyksiä ja virittikö journalismi monipuolista julkista keskustelua. "en": "The survey described Finnish leisure-time housing in 2008. The questions charted the use of the free-time residence, as well as its standard of equipment, water supply, sewerage, and waste disposal. In addition, some questions investigated the use of services in the municipality the free-time residence is located in. Leisure-time housing in Finland is a large phenomenon with deep historical and cultural roots, and it represents a significant part of domestic tourism. In this survey, the term \"free-time residence\" refers to rural recreational residences (holiday homes, cottages) mainly used during weekends and holidays, especially during summertime. The use of free-time residence was charted by asking the respondents for example about the distance between their free-time residence and permanent residence in kilometres and hours, the location of their free-time residence, and its suitability for year-round habitation. They were also asked to indicate the number of days their free-time residence had been used each month in the last 12 months, as well as the number of people who had spent at least one night at the free-time residence. Willingness to rent out the free-time residence to other people was also queried. The respondents were asked to tell whether their use of free-time residence had increased or decreased in the last three years, and to estimate whether it will increase or decrease in the next three years. In addition, they were asked whether a household member had commuted to work from or worked at the free-time residence, and whether they themselves were willing to do remote work at the free-time residence. Questions related to standard of equipment covered the total floorage, access to electricity, heating, and various equipment in the free-time residence. Views were also probed on the accommodation capacity, improvements made in the last 12 months, and future improvements. In addition, the respondents were asked to rate the overall state of the main building. Water supply was investigated by asking the respondents how they obtained drinking, cooking, and washing water. In view of waste disposal, they were asked how they dealt with waste water from the sauna, what type of outdoor latrine they had, and how the waste disposal at the free-time residence was organised in general. Related to services, the respondents were queried about the distance to the nearest grocery store, health centre, library, post office, bus stop, and post box. The respondents themselves as well as their household members were asked whether they had plans to officially move to the municipality their free-time residence was located in within the next three years. Satisfaction with various services available in the proximity of the free-time residence was canvassed, as well as willingness to buy various services. In addition, the respondents were asked whether they usually bought groceries and other goods and services from a store/company located in their municipality of residence, along the way, or in the municipality their free-time residence was located in. Some questions charted the use of money. The respondents were asked about the average amount of money used per day spent at the free-time residence, and the amount of money used in building or repairing, other goods (e.g. fuel, furniture, gardening tools), and leisure time services in the last 12 months. In addition, the annual amount of various user charges related to the free-time residence (e.g. real property tax, private road fees, harbour and quay dues, and waste collection, electricity, waste water, and telephone charges) was examined. Background variables included the respondent's household size and income, region where the free-time residence is located in, and year of construction of the free-time residence.",

Kysyttiin myös, onko joku kotitalouden jäsenistä käynyt töissä vapaa-ajan asunnolta, tehnyt siellä ansiotyötä ja olisiko vastaaja itse halukas tekemään etätyötä vapaa-ajan asunnossa. Vapaa-ajan asunnon varustukseen liittyivät kysymykset pinta-alasta, sähköistyksestä, lämmitystavasta ja asunnolla olevista varusteista. Lisäksi kysyttiin majoituskapasiteettia, onko tehty parannuksia viimeistein 12 kk aikana tai tullaanko parannuksia tekemään seuraavien 12 kk aikana. Lisäksi pyydettiin kouluarvosana vapaa-ajan asunnon päärakennuksen kunnosta. Vesihuollosta kysyttiin miten juoma- ja ruokavesi hankitaan ja mistä pesuvesi otetaan. Jätehuoltoa käsiteltiin kysymällä miten saunan jätevedet käsitellään, millainen käymälä on ja miten jätehuolto on hoidettu. Palveluista tiedusteltiin mm. matkaa lähimpään ruokakauppaan, päivittäistavarakauppaan, terveyskeskukseen, kirjastoon, postiin, bussipysäkille ja postilaatikolle. Kysyttiin myös onko vastaajalla tai muilla kotitalouden jäsenillä suunnitelmissa muuttaa virallisesti vapaa-ajan asunnon sijaintikuntaan seuraavien kolmen vuoden aikana. Lisäksi tiedusteltiin kuinka tyytyväinen vastaajan kotitalous on ollut vapaa-ajan asunnon lähiseudun tarjoamiin erilaisiin palveluihin. Tiedusteltiin myös onko vastaaja kiinnostunut ostamaan erilaisia palveluita vapaa-ajan asunnon lähiseudulta. Vastaajilta kysyttiin ostavatko he yleensä päivittäistavarat sekä muut tavarat ja palvelut vakituisen asuinkunnan kaupasta/yrityksestä, menomatkalla olevasta kaupasta/yrityksestä vai vapaa-asunnon sijaintikunnan kaupasta/yrityksestä. Rahankäyttöä koskevia kysymyksiä olivat mm. kotitalouden keskimäärin kuluttama rahamäärä asunnolla vietettyä vuorokautta kohti sekä paljonko rahaa on viimeksi kuluneiden 12 kk aikana käytetty rakentamiseen ja korjaamiseen, muihin tavaroihin ja vapaa-ajan palveluihin. Lisäksi tiedusteltiin vapaa-ajan asuntoon kohdistuvien kiinteistöveron, yksityistiemaksujen, pienvenesatama- tai laiturimaksujen, jätehuoltomaksujen, sähkömaksujen, talous/jätevesimaksujen ja puhelinmaksujen suuruutta vuodessa. "en": "The survey charted Finnish opinion and experiences on policing, public safety and security, victimisation, and services in the neighbourhood. First, the respondents were asked whether certain phenomena (e.g. deviant behaviour of youth, general lack of cleanliness in public places, drinking in public places, vandalism) occurred in their neighbourhood. They were asked how often they walk outside in the population centre of their municipality in the evenings or at night, how safe they felt walking outside in their neighbourhood or in the population centre of the municipality late at night during weekend, and how safe they felt alone at home after dark. Views were probed on how serious a threat crime was in the neighbourhood. Experience of crime was investigated by asking whether the respondents had been victims of certain crimes (e.g. actual or attempted car or vehicle theft, housebreaking, other type of theft, violent robbery, threat of violence at work, domestic violence, rape) during the past three years, and where this had happened. Fear of crime was charted by asking how worried the respondents were about particular crimes (e.g. housebreaking, fire, traffic accident, rape or sexual harassment, being offered drugs, being threatened with violence) happening to them. Experiences of the police were studied by asking whether the respondents had had contact with the police as crime victims, witnesses or suspects, while getting a driving licence or a new passport, or during traffic control. The respondents rated with a scale of 4-10 how well the police performed in its tasks (crime prevention, traffic control, handling domestic violence situations, solving crimes, etc.). They also rated how important various police services and tasks were. Worries over certain things happening to them or in general in the future (e.g. loneliness, financial difficulties, illness, cuts in health or police services, exclusion, international terrorism) was charted. Views on whether certain measures would increase the safety of the neighbourhood were studied. The respondents rated municipal services, including care of persons with drug or alcohol problems, child care, youth services, road maintenance, environmental protection, etc. General trust in people and satisfaction with the neighbourhood were also charted. Background variables included the respondent's gender, year of birth, education, employment status, type of accommodation, housing tenure, type of neighbourhood, number of children aged under 18 living at home, jurisdictional district, and province and region of residence.",
"fi": "Tutkimuksessa selvitettiin kansalaisten näkemyksiä ja kokemuksia turvallisuusasioista, asuinkunnan ja poliisin palveluista sekä uhriutumisesta. Tutkimuksen alussa vastaajat punnitsivat, kuinka paljon asuinkunnassa esiintyy seuraavia ilmiöitä: nuorison häiriökäyttäytymistä, yleisten paikkojen epäsiisteyttä, alkoholin juomista julkisella paikalla ja ilkivaltaa. Kansalaisten turvallisuutta selvitettiin kysymällä, kuinka turvalliseksi vastaaja tuntee olonsa mm. kävellessään yksin perjantai- ja lauantai-iltoina asuinalueellaan. Edelleen tiedusteltiin asuinkunnan yleisten paikkojen turvallisuuden muutoksia sekä rikollisuustilanteen vakavuutta. Kansalaisten uhriutumista tutkittiin kysymällä, onko vastaajalle henkilökohtaisesti tapahtunut jokin rikos kolmen viime vuoden aikana, missä se tapahtui ja milloin. Paikkakunnan poliisin onnistumista tehtäviensä hoitamisessa kartoitettiin. Lisäksi tiedusteltiin vastaajien omia viime vuosien kokemuksia poliisin toiminnasta. Vastaajat arvioivat myös mm. seuraavien poliisin palvelujen tärkeyttä: hälytyspartion nopea saapuminen, rikosten nopea selvittäminen ja mahdollisuus jättää rikosilmoitus Internetin kautta. Edelleen kysyttiin, mitkä omaa elämää, asuinkuntaa ja laajemmin yhteiskuntaa koskevat asiat huolestuttavat vastaajia tulevaisuudessa. Vaihtoehtoina olivat esim. oma tai läheisen työttömyys, vakava sairastuminen, sosiaali- ja terveyspalvelujen saatavuus, alkoholin kulutus, ihmisten syrjäytyminen sekä rikollisuus. Asuinkunnan palvelujen järjestämistä arvioitiin kouluarvosanoilla. Rankattavina olivat esimerkiksi palo- ja pelastustoimi, lasten päivähoito, päihdeongelmaisten hoito sekä poliisipalvelut. Vastaajat arvioivat myös asuinalueen viihtyvyyttä ja turvallisuutta kohentavia toimenpiteitä, kuten katuvalaistuksen, päihdevalistuksen ja harrastusmahdollisuuksien parantamista. Tutkimuksen lopussa kysyttiin vastaajien järjestöosallistumista ja luottamusta ihmisiin. Lisäksi kysyttiin yksittäisenä uutena kohtana kuinka usein vastaajat osallistuvat internetin kautta toimiviin keskustelu-, peli- ynnä muihin yhteisöihin. "en": "In connection with the 2009 Finnish Youth Survey, a comparative sample was also collected from people aged between 50 and 55. The respondents estimated how similar values their generation and their children's or young people's generation had on issues such as art, religion, education, and work. They also expressed their opinions on which factors (e.g. the age of majority, moving away from one's parents, cohabitation or marriage) make a person an adult. In addition, the respondents were presented with a set of attitudinal statements on globalisation, cultural services and art. Finally, their views were charted with the help of various statements describing the significance of art. Background variables included, among others, the respondent's age, gender, occupational status, level of education, and type of municipality.",

Vastaajilta kysyttiin, kuinka samanlaisiksi tai erilaisiksi he arvioivat joko omien lastensa tai yleensä nuorten mielipiteet erilaisista asioista, kuten taide, uskonto, koulutus ja työnteko. "en": "The survey investigated student opinion on study conditions in universities of applied sciences (polytechnics) in Finland. The main themes pertained to the choice of educational institution, study tracks, quality of teaching on their programme, study environment, the respondents' ability to study, and ways of influencing how things are run in the institution and in Finnish society. Questions covered what year the respondents had completed their upper secondary education, reasons for choosing their institution and field of study, reasons for the time it took to for them to commence their present studies after secondary education or previous studies, satisfaction with own study progress, and reasons for slow progress. Further questions charted how well the institution and studies had met their expectations, how satisfied the respondents were with different aspects of their institution (e.g. teaching quality, teaching methods, amount of work compared to credits gained, study guidance), and whether their studies had given them skills needed in working life and in life generally. Opinions on practical training and feedback were surveyed, as well as plans for further studies. The survey also explored the respondents' previous studies and possibilities to credit the previous studies or work experience as part of their degree. Ability to study and study environment were charted with a number of questions. The respondents were asked to rate their abilities to, for instance, work in group, find suitable study methods, prepare for an exam, plan their studies, interact with other students and teachers. They were presented with some statements relating to, for example, their health, life control, social relations, different aspects of study environment, and study guidance and support. Experiences of being subjected to antisocial behaviour or discrimination were charted. One topic pertained to sport services at the institution. The respondents were asked whether they were members in the student union and reasons for not being a member. They were asked to what extent they agreed with some statements relating to the activities and services of the student union. Methods used to influence things at the institute were explored. Finally, the respondents were asked whether they believed they could influence issues important to them by voting and what methods they had used to influence decision-making in Finnish society. Background variables included the respondent's year of birth, gender, R's and the parents' level of education, and details of R's degree programme and study (field of study, level, teaching language of the programme, whether Finnish or foreign student, year when commenced present studies, credits earned, change of institution or field of study).",
"fi": "Tutkimuksessa selvitetään opiskeluolosuhteita ammattikorkeakouluissa. Tarkastelun kohteena ovat opiskelijoiden koulutuspolut, näkemykset koulutuksen laadusta ja opiskelukyvystä sekä vaikuttamistoiminnasta. Koulutuspolkuja kartoitettiin kysymällä valmistumisvuotta toiselta asteelta, asioita jotka vaikuttivat hakeutumiseen nykyiseen ammattikorkeakouluun ja miksi vastaaja opiskelee nykyistä koulutusalaa. AMK- ja YAMK-tutkintoa suorittavilta kysyttiin erikseen mitkä tekijät vaikuttivat siihen, kuinka pian nykyiset opinnot oli aloitettu aikaisempien opintojen jälkeen. Tiedusteltiin, onko vastaaja ilmoittautunut joinakin lukukausina poissaolevaksi, kuinka monena lukukautena ja millaisista syistä. Kysyttiin myös miten tyytyväisiä vastaajat ovat opintojen etenemiseen suhteessa heidän asettamiinsa tavoitteisiin. Jos opinnot ovat edenneet tavoitteita hitaammin, kysyttiin tärkeimpiä opintojen etenemistä hidastaneita tekijöitä. Koulutuksen laatua tutkittiin kysymällä kuinka hakuvaiheessa saatu kuva ammattikorkeakoulusta on vastannut todellisuutta, tyytyväisyydestä ammattikorkeakouluun sekä opintojen antamista valmiuksista työtä ja elämää varten. Lisäksi kysyttiin yhteistyöstä muiden koulutusalojen opiskelijoiden kanssa, esitettiin väittämiä opintoihin sisältyvästä harjoittelusta, henkilökohtaisesta opintosuunnitelmasta (hops) sekä mahdollisuuksista antaa ja saada palautetta. Haluttiin myös tietää, miten opinnäytetyön aiheet on valittu ja kuinka tyytyväisiä opinnäytetyön ohjaukseen on oltu. Kysyttiin myös mahdollisista lisäopinnoista valmistumisen jälkeen. Lisäksi tiedusteltiin ovatko vastaajat suorittaneet muita opintoja kotimaassa tai ulkomailla, onko aiempia opintoja tai työkokemusta saatu hyväksiluettua nykyisiin opintoihin ja miten tämä aiemmin hankittu osaaminen on osoitettu. Opiskelukykyä arvioitaessa opiskelijoita pyydettiin arvioimaan omia vahvuuksiaan sekä esitettiin opiskelukykyä ja opiskeluympäristöä koskevia väittämiä. Kysyttiin ammattikorkeakoulun tarjoamista liikuntapalveluista sekä kuinka niitä mahdollisesti tulisi kehittää. Lisäksi kysyttiin kuinka usein vastaajat ovat tarvitessaan saaneet neuvoja, apua tai tukea opiskeluun. Pyydettiin myös arviota opiskelijaterveydenhuollon saatavuudesta omassa ammattikorkeakoulussa. Vaikuttamista ammattikorkeakoulussa ja yhteiskunnassa käsiteltiin kysymyksillä opiskelijakunnan jäsenyydestä ja pyytämällä arvioita omasta opiskelijakunnasta. Niiltä, jotka eivät ole opiskelijakunnan jäseniä, kysyttiin syytä tähän. Esitettiin opiskelijakuntaa koskevia väittämiä ja pyydettiin kertomaan ne tavat, joilla vastaaja on vaikuttanut oman ammattikorkeakoulunsa asioihin. Väittämiä esitettiin myös osallistumis- ja vaikuttamismahdollisuuksista ammattikorkeakoulussa sekä pyydettiin mielipidettä siitä, voiko äänestämällä vaikuttaa itselleen tärkeisiin asioihin. Lisäksi tiedusteltiin tapoja, joilla vastaajat olivat vaikuttaneet tärkeiksi kokemiinsa asioihin yhteiskunnassa. "en": "The survey charted the political knowledge of students studying at vocational institutions in the Turku Region. The knowledge areas queried were basic political concepts, the political systems of Finland and the EU, and Finnish national economy. Opinions on politics and democracy were also surveyed. The data were collected as part of the research project \"Knowledge of Politics in International Comparison 2007-2010\" at the University of Turku. The same questions were presented in other surveys conducted by the project: FSD2499 Knowledge of Politics and Society 2008 and FSD2343 Knowledge of Politics and Society 2008: Turku Region Upper Secondary Schools 2007-2008. The Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Education and Culture provided funding for the project. First, opinions on politics were charted. The respondents were asked how interested they were in politics, how much information they had received from various sources (e.g. from educational institutes at different levels, friends, home) to understand social and political issues, how close they felt to specific political parties or civic/voluntary organisations and on what grounds they made their party/candidate choice in elections. Further questions covered the perceived importance of voting in different elections, the respondent's political and civic participation and participation methods. The respondents also rated how important they held a number of sources to be for obtaining political and social information (e.g. television, radio, newspapers, magazines, the Internet, events, contacts with decision-makers, personal communication). Television, radio, newspaper and Internet use was charted as well as reasons for using the Internet. Next, political knowledge and knowledge of the Finnish political system were studied. The respondents were asked to assess the level of their own political and social knowledge. A number of questions explored knowledge on what the concepts of politics, democracy and political left and right entail. The respondents also graded the functionality of Finnish democracy and placed themselves on the left-right axis. Further questions investigated factual knowledge on Finnish constitution, proportional electoral system, electoral districts, functions of political parties, functions and powers of Parliament and the Prime Minister, parties represented in the coalition government and Parliament, elections, national incomes policy negotiations, etc. Knowledge on EU issues was charted by asking the respondents in what year Finland became a member state, which countries were members in the EU or belonged to the euro zone, powers of the EU, legislation, to which EU institution representatives were elected by direct vote, how many votes Finland had in the Council of Ministers, how many members Finland had in the European Parliament, what were powers of the Parliament and the length of the electoral period. Knowledge on Finnish national economy was explored through questions on local taxation, state budget, impact of inflation on purchasing power, and state income tax. Background variables included the respondent's gender, year of birth, municipality of residence, basic education, type of neighbourhood, annual gross income of the household, and mother tongue.",
"fi": "Kyselyssä selvitettiin Turun alueen ammatti-instituuttien opiskelijoiden poliittis-yhteiskunnallista perustietämystä eli tietoja politiikan peruskäsitteistä, Suomen ja EU:n poliittisista järjestelmistä sekä kansantaloudesta. Lisäksi kartoitettiin mielipiteitä politiikasta ja demokratiasta. Tutkimus on osa Suomalaisten politiikkatietämys kansainvälisessä vertailussa 2007-2010 -hanketta. Samoja kysymyksiä on esitetty myös hankkeen muissa arkistoiduissa aineistoissa: FSD2344 Yhteiskuntatutkimus 2008: Turun alueen lukiokysely 2007-2008 ja FSD2499 Yhteiskuntatutkimus 2008. Projektia rahoittivat oikeusministeriö sekä opetus- ja kulttuuriministeriö. Vastaajalta kysyttiin kuinka kiinnostunut hän on politiikasta ja kuinka paljon hän on saanut eri lähteistä tietoja yhteiskunnallisten asioiden ymmärtämiseksi. Edelleen kysyttiin, kuinka läheisiksi vastaaja kokee puolueet ja eri kansalaisjärjestöt. Kysyttiin myös äänestämisen tärkeydestä eri vaaleissa, ehdokas- ja puoluevalinnoista sekä yhteiskunnallisen osallistumisen aktiivisuudesta ja eri tavoista. Vastaaja kertoi, kuinka tärkeinä yhteiskunnallisen tiedon kanavina hän pitää televisiota, radiota, lehtiä, internetiä, erilaisia tilaisuuksia ja henkilökohtaisia keskusteluja. Edelleen vastaaja arvioi television katseluun, radion kuunteluun, sanomalehtien lukemiseen ja internetin käyttöön päivittäin käyttämäänsä aikaa. Vastaajan yleistietoja politiikasta kartoitettiin kysymällä ensin kuinka hyvin vastaaja itse arvioi tuntevansa yhteiskunnallisia asioita. Vastaaja määritteli ja eritteli muiden muassa käsitteitä politiikka, demokratia, vasemmisto ja oikeisto. Lisäksi vastaajan faktatietämystä ja politiikan peruskäsitteiden tuntemusta kartoitettiin kysymyksillä suhteellisesta vaalitavasta, vaalipiirijaosta, parlamentarismista, punamullasta, kolmikantaneuvotteluista, tuposta ja EU-asetuksesta. Suomen poliittiseen järjestelmään liittyen kysyttiin, mille taholle kuuluu valtiollinen valta perustuslain mukaan. Vastaaja arvioi edelleen puolueiden toiminnan tärkeyttä eri osa-alueilla kuten kansalaiskeskustelun ylläpitämisessä, poliittisten johtajien rekrytoinnissa, intressien yhteensovittamisessa ja yhteiskunnan tasapainoisessa kehittämisessä. Kysyttiin myös, kuinka usein Suomessa järjestetään kunnallisvaalit, minkä poliittisen päätöksentekijän kuntalaiset niissä valitsevat, kuka on vastaajan asuinkunnan kunnanjohtaja ja mikä on kunnanvaltuuston suurin puolue. Lisäksi tiedusteltiin, kuinka usein Suomessa järjestetään eduskuntavaalit, mikä poliittinen päätöksentekijä niissä valitaan, mitä tehtäviä perustuslain mukaan kuuluu eduskunnalle ja pääministerille, kuinka monta kansanedustajaa kuuluu eduskuntaan, mitkä puolueet ovat edustettuina eduskunnassa ja hallituksessa, kuka on Suomen pääministeri ja puhemies ja mitä puoluetta he edustavat sekä milloin järjestetään seuraavat eduskuntavaalit. Edelleen kysyttiin, kuka tai ketkä johtavat Suomen ulkopolitiikkaa sekä kuinka pitkä on tasavallan presidentin virkakausi. Vastaajan tietoja Euroopan unionista ja sen poliittisesta järjestelmästä tarkasteltiin kysymällä, milloin Suomesta tuli unionin jäsen, mitkä maat kuuluvat Euroopan unioniin ja missä maissa on käytössä yhteisvaluutta euro. Edelleen kysyttiin mikä on EU:n ylin lakiasäätävä elin, mihin EU-toimielimeen valitaan edustajat suorilla vaaleilla, kuinka monta ääntä Suomella on EU:n neuvostossa, kuinka monta edustajaa Suomella on Euroopan parlamentissa ja kuinka pitkä on Euroopan parlamentin toimikausi. Lopuksi tarkasteltiin vastaajan tietoja kansantaloudesta. Kysymyksiä esitettiin kunnallisveroprosentista, Suomen valtion vuotuisista menoista, inflaation vaikutuksesta ostovoimaan ja valtion tuloverotuksesta. Taustamuuttujina olivat vastaajan syntymävuosi, sukupuoli, asuinpaikka, koulutus, äidinkieli sekä vanhempien bruttovuositulot."

Current employment situation, employment history before and after graduation, and experiences of unemployment after graduation were investigated. The respondents were asked about the nature of their current job and whether the job was commensurate with their qualifications. One topic covered job searching methods used. The respondents were also asked which factors were most important in obtaining their current job and which factors may have hindered or prevented them from finding a job. Views were probed on whether they had gained useful skills and abilities (e.g. information seeking skills, analytical thought, language skills, problem solution) from their studies. Background variables included the respondent's gender, region, and information on the degree (degree programme, faculty, field of study, possible previous degree and time of starting studies).",
"fi": "Tutkimuksessa selvitettiin Tampereen yliopistosta vuonna 2005 valmistuneiden sijoittumista työelämään sekä tarkasteltiin erilaisia työnhakuun liittyviä tekijöitä. Vastaajilta tiedusteltiin tämänhetkistä työtilannetta, työssäolokuukausia yleensä, työssäolokuukausia koulutusta vastaavissa tehtävissä sekä työttömyyskuukausien määrää valmistumisen jälkeen ennen ensimmäistä työpaikkaa. Lisäksi kartoitettiin, minkälaisissa töissä vastaajat ovat opiskeluaikoinaan mahdollisesti olleet. Työssäolevilta vastaajilta kysyttiin nykyisen työnantajan tyyppiä ja päätyön luonnetta. Heiltä tiedusteltiin myös, mitkä olivat tärkeimmät hakukanavat nykyisen työpaikan saamisessa ja kuinka paljon eri tekijät vaikuttivat myönteisesti työpaikan saamiseen. Kaikilta kysyttiin, mitkä tekijät ovat mahdollisesti vaikeuttaneet tai estäneet työllistymistä koulutustasoa vastaaviin tehtäviin. Lopuksi kartoitettiin tyytyväisyyttä tutkintoon. Vastaajia pyydettiin arvioimaan, kuinka paljon heidän nykyiset työtehtävänsä vastaavat vaatimustasoltaan yliopistollista tutkintoa. Lisäksi kysyttiin, miten tyytyväisiä vastaajat ovat Tampereen yliopistossa annettuun opetustarjontaan ja pyydettiin kertomaan omin sanoin, mihin he ovat erityisen tyytyväisiä ja tyytymättömiä. Vastaajia pyydettiin myös punnitsemaan, kuinka paljon yliopisto-opiskelu on kehittänyt työelämässä hyödyllisiä tieto- ja taitoalueita, kuten omaan alaan liittyvää teoreettista ja käytännön osaamista, sosiaalisia taitoja sekä ongelmanratkaisukykyä. Taustamuuttujina ovat koulutusala, tutkinto, tiedekunta, tutkinnon aloitusvuosi luokiteltuna, sukupuoli, lääni ja edellinen tutkinto."

"en": "The survey covered self-reported crime of young Finnish males, focusing particularly on theft and other property crime, and crimes of violence. Dealings with the police and punishments received were also studied. One of the goals of the survey was to test the possibility of creating new standardised indicators for self-reported crime in Finland. The survey repeated several questions used in the Young Male Crime Survey in 1962. Drinking habits were studied by asking how often the respondents drink until they become intoxicated. Knowledge of the Finnish law was tested by asking whether the respondents knew what age criminal liability began at, what the blood alcohol content limit for driving while intoxicated (DWI) was, and what the legal age of consent was (minimum age at which a person is considered to be capable of consenting to sexual acts). Regarding victimization of crime, the respondents were asked whether they had been victims of non-violent theft, or of theft involving violence or threat of violence, and if so whether they had told the police. Further questions explored whether the respondents had been victims of the following, when and how often: threats of violence, insults or threats through e-mail, sms messages or Internet discussion forums, being deliberately jostled or pushed (by way of harassment), physical attack, assault, violence without weapons or violence with weapons like knives, guns etc. The respondents were asked whether they had had to visit a doctor, receive first aid or be hospitalized because of the violence, ever or during the past 12 months. Self-reported crime was studied by asking the respondents whether they themselves had ever or during the past 12 months participated in the following: taking something from someone without permission, theft from workplace, shoplifting, stealing ashtrays or such from cafes or restaurants, theft of vehicle parts, theft of a motor vehicle (car, motor cycle, scooter, motorboat), theft of a bicycle, other type of theft, receiving, buying or selling stolen goods, leaving a restaurant or hotel without paying, driving while intoxicated, deliberately damaging streetlights, road signs or such, disorderly conduct in a public place while intoxicated, deliberately threatening or insulting someone through e-mail, text messages or Internet discussion forums, illegally copying music or movies over the Internet or distributing such to strangers via the Internet, assaulting someone with intent to harm, or carrying a knife or other offensive weapon with intent to harm or for self-defence. Regarding drug abuse, the respondents were asked whether they had ever or during the past 12 months tried or used marijuana or hashish, or ecstasy, heroin, cocaine, amphetamine, LSD or other drugs. One question investigated working without paying taxes. The respondents were asked whether they had had dealings with the police and why. Penalties/punishments received (petty fines, fines, community service, juvenile punishment, conditional or unconditional prison sentence) were charted. Views were probed on the severity of Finnish punishments. Finally, the respondents were asked about their call-up date for the conscription army. Background variables included the respondent's year of birth, mother tongue, country of birth, activity after basic education, economic activity in the past 12 months, duration of possible unemployment, occupation, municipality of residence, household composition, number of children, father's occupation, and whether R was studying at the time of the survey.",
"fi": "Kyselyssä kartoitettiin helsinkiläisten nuorten miesten itse ilmoitetun rikollisuuden tasoa, erityisesti varastamiseen ja muihin omaisuusrikoksiin sekä erilaisiin väkivaltarikoksiin ja näistä saatuihin rangaistuksiin liittyen. Kyselyllä pyrittiin sekä jatkamaan että laajentamaan edellistä, vuonna 1962 suoritettua samannimistä rikollisuuskyselyä, ja samalla luomaan pohjaa uudelle kokonaisrikollisuuden seurantajärjestelmälle. Ensimmäisenä kysyttiin kuinka usein vastaajat käyttävät alkoholia tosi humalaan asti. Tämän jälkeen testattiin, tietävätkö he Suomen rikosvastuun ikärajan, rattijuopumuksen rajan tai kuinka nuoren henkilön kanssa ei saa olla sukupuoliyhteydessä. Tiedusteltiin myös, onko vastaajilta joskus varastettu jotain ja jos oli, niin ilmoittivatko he siitä poliisille. Kysyttiin lisäksi väkivaltaisen ryöstön uhriksi joutumisesta sekä oliko tästä ilmoitettu poliisille. Tahalliseen väkivaltaan liittyen kysyttiin onko vastaajaan koskaan hänen elämänsä tai kuluneen 12 kuukauden aikana (ja montako kertaa tuolloin) kohdistettu sellaisia tekoja kuin uhkaileminen väkivallalla, uhkaileminen tai tietoinen loukkaaminen sähköisten viestinten avulla, tahallinen tyrkkiminen tai töniminen, lyöminen niin, että siitä joko aiheutui tai ei aiheutunut näkyvää jälkeä, kimppuun käyminen jotain asetta (esim. veistä) käyttäen tai jonkinlainen muunlainen väkivalta. Näiden tekojen seurauksiin liittyen pyydettiin kertomaan oliko vastaaja saanut väkivallan seurauksena ensiapua tai lääkärin hoitoa tai joutunut hoitoon sairaalan vuodeosastolle koskaan elämänsä aikana tai kuluneen 12 kuukauden aikana ja montako kertaa näin oli tapahtunut. Edelleen tiedusteltiin oliko vastaaja itse suorittanut tai ollut mukana suorittamassa erilaisia varkauksia, kuten ottanut luvatta jotakin, ottanut luvatta jotakin työpaikaltaan, ottanut tavaroita kaupoista maksamatta niitä, vienyt mukanaan esineitä kahviloista tai ravintoloista, ottanut luvatta osia tai varusteita eri ajoneuvoista, varastanut auton, mopedin, skootterin tai moottoripyörän, moottoriveneen tai muun moottoriajoneuvon, varastanut polkupyörän tai suorittanut muunlaisen varkauden. Muista kielletyistä teoista kysyttiin onko vastaaja ottanut vastaan, ostanut tai myynyt varastettua tavaraa, jättänyt kahvila-, ravintola- tai hotellilaskun tahallaan maksamatta, ajanut jotakin moottoriajoneuvoa alkoholin vaikutuksen alaisena, rikkonut tahallaan katulamppuja, tienviittoja tai muita sellaisia, käyttäytynyt häiritsevästi humalassa yleisellä paikalla, uhkaillut tai tietoisesti loukannut jotakuta sähköpostilla, tekstiviestillä tai Internetin keskustelupalstoilla, kopioinut ja jakanut tiedostoja luvattomasti esimerkiksi vertaisverkossa, lyönyt tai pahoinpidellyt toista henkilöä, pitänyt mukanaan terä- tai lyömäasetta vahingoittamis- tai itsepuolustustarkoituksessa, kokeillut tai käyttänyt marihuanaa tai hasista, ekstaasia, heroiinia, kokaiinia, amfetamiinia, LSD:tä tai muita vastaavia huumeita, tai työskennellyt pimeästi, niin että ei ole maksanut veroa saamastaan palkasta. "en": "The survey focused on the well-being of staff in primary and secondary schools and upper secondary institutions in Finland. Staff opinions on school facilities, working conditions, social relationships, and means for self-fulfilment in school were studied, as well as their perceived health status. The survey contained both statements and multiple choice questions. The respondents indicated to what extent they agreed with the statements using a five-point scale (i.e. from \"strongly agree\" to \"strongly disagree\"). School facilities were studied with a number of questions about the classroom (e.g. size, temperature, ventilation, desks), toilet facilities, the dining room, the schoolyard and the school building (e.g. safety, functionality). Access to and trust in the school nurse and counselling supervision were charted as well as opinions on the school timetable, school rules and punishments, order in the classroom, and the workload. The statements relating to social relationships canvassed relations between staff members and between staff members and students. The survey also covered opinions on whether parents were participating in solving problems concerning their children or in developing the school, and whether parents appreciated the work done by the staff or were willing to discuss issues with teachers if needed. Views were probed on whether the staff were treated equally, and whether it was easy to get along with the headmaster or get help from him/her if needed. In addition, the respondents were asked whether they had been bullied or harassed at work during the ongoing term and whether they themselves had bullied or harassed someone else. The survey also studied whether staff opinions were taken into account in developing the school and in drawing up school rules, and whether the school encouraged staff to express their views. The respondents were asked whether they appreciated their work, felt they could concentrate on their work and cope with their tasks, knew their strengths and weaknesses, had found a suitable method to do the work, whether the pace at work was suitable for them, and whether they found their work interesting. Regarding health, the respondents were asked about their perceived general health and whether they had had various symptoms (e.g. stomach ache, sleeping problems, headache, fear, anxiety) during the ongoing term. Background variables included the respondent's gender, working hours (part-time or full time), number of years working in the school, and type of contract.",
"fi": "Tässä aineistossa tarkastellaan henkilökunnan hyvinvointia ala- ja yläkouluissa sekä toisen asteen oppilaitoksissa. Kyselyn teemat ovat koulun olosuhteet, sosiaaliset suhteet, itsensä toteuttamisen mahdollisuudet ja terveydentila. Kysymykset on esitetty väittäminä ja monivalintakysymyksinä. Väittämiä arvioidaan viisiportaisella asteikolla \"täysin samaa mieltä\" - \"täysin eri mieltä\". Koulun olosuhteita kartoittavat kysymykset liittyvät koulun tiloihin ja toimintaan. Henkilökunnalta kysytään esimerkiksi luokkien koosta, lämpötilasta, ilmanvaihdosta, tilojen siisteydestä, wc-tiloista sekä pihan ja koulurakennuksen viihtyisyydestä ja turvallisuudesta. Vastaajat arvioivat myös oppituntien työrauhaa, työn määrän sopivuutta, työskentelyn kiireisyyttä, koulun sääntöjen järkevyyttä sekä onko työterveyshoitajan luo ja työnohjaukseen helppo päästä. Henkilökunta arvioi myös, arvostavatko oppilaiden vanhemmat koulun työtä ja osallistuvatko he lastaan koskevien ongelmien selvittämiseen. Lisäksi kartoitetaan esiintyykö työyhteisössä työpaikkakiusaamista ja onko vastaaja itse työpaikkakiusaamisen kohteena kyseisessä koulussa. Itsensä toteuttamisen mahdollisuuksiin liittyvät väittämät koskevat työskentelyä koulussa. Esimerkiksi kokeeko vastaaja, että hänen työtään arvostetaan kouluyhteisössä, hänen mielipiteensä otetaan huomioon koulun kehittämisessä ja onko vastaaja löytänyt itselleen sopivan työskentelytavan, arvostaako hän omaa työtään koulussa ja saako hän tarvitessaan apua rehtorilta/esimieheltä. Terveydentilaa koskevissa kysymyksissä vastaaja arvioi onko hänellä ollut erilaisia oireita ja sairauksia (mm. vatsakipuja, vaikeuksia päästä uneen tai heräilemistä öisin, päänsärkyä, alakuloisuutta ja pelkoa) kuluvan lukukauden aikana. Taustakysymykset ovat sukupuoli, työuran pituus kyseisessä koulussa, työsuhteen laatu ja työskentelyn kokopäiväisyys/osa-aikaisuus."

"en": "The survey focused on school well-being in upper secondary institutions in Finland, studying student opinions on school facilities, the learning environment, social relationships in school, and means for self-fulfilment in school, as well as the students' perceived health status. The survey contained both statements and multiple choice questions. The respondents indicated to what extent they agreed with the statements using a five-point scale (i.e. from \"strongly agree\" to \"strongly disagree\"). School facilities were studied with a number of questions about the classroom (e.g. size, temperature, ventilation, desks), toilet facilities, the dining room, the schoolyard and the school building (e.g. safety, functionality). Access to and trust in the school nurse and the school welfare officer were charted as well as opinions on the school timetable, school rules and punishments and the amount of school work. The statements relating to social relationships canvassed student-student relationships (e.g. classmate support, being accepted by others) and teacher-student relationships (e.g. fairness and friendliness of teachers). Parental attitudes to homework and school were studied. Views on the learning environment were probed with questions on help and encouragement received from teachers, group work in the classroom, access to remedial teaching or special education, and order in the classroom. In addition, the respondents were asked whether they had been bullied at school during the ongoing term and whether they themselves had bullied someone else. The survey also studied whether student opinions were taken into account in developing the school and in drawing up school rules (school democracy), and whether teachers encouraged students to express their views. Views were probed on whether the respondents felt they could follow the lessons, concentrate on their work, do their school work, and whether they knew their weaknesses and strengths in school matters, appreciated their school work, felt there were subjects at school and school clubs that interested them, had found a study method that suited them, and whether the pace of the lessons was suitable for them. Regarding health, the respondents were asked about their perceived general health and whether they had had various symptoms (e.g. stomach ache, sleeping problems, headache, fear, anxiety) during the ongoing term. Background variables included the respondent's gender, age, year of study, and group id.",

Kyselyn teemat ovat oppilaitoksen olosuhteet, sosiaaliset suhteet, itsensä toteuttamisen mahdollisuudet ja terveydentila. Kysymykset on esitetty väittäminä ja monivalintakysymyksinä. "en": "The survey charted the political knowledge of pupils in the final year class of upper secondary schools in the Turku region (Finland). The knowledge areas queried were basic political concepts, the political systems of Finland and the EU, and Finnish national economy. Opinions on politics and democracy were also surveyed. The data were collected as part of the research project \"Knowledge of Politics in International Comparison 2007-2010\" at the University of Turku. The same questions were presented in other surveys conducted by the project: FSD2499 Knowledge of Politics and Society 2008 and FSD2344 Knowledge of Politics and Society 2008: Turku Region Vocational Institutions 2007-2008. The Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Education and Culture provided funding for the project. First, opinions on politics were charted. The respondents were asked how interested they were in politics, how much information they had received from various sources (e.g. from educational institutes at different levels, friends, home) to understand social and political issues, how close they felt to specific political parties or civic/voluntary organisations and on what grounds they made their party/candidate choice in elections. Further questions covered the perceived importance of voting in different elections, the respondent's political and civic participation and participation methods. The respondents also rated how important they held a number of sources to be for obtaining political and social information (e.g. television, radio, newspapers, magazines, the Internet, events, contacts with decision-makers, personal communication). Television, radio, newspaper and Internet use was charted as well as reasons for using the Internet. Next, political knowledge and knowledge of the Finnish political system were studied. The respondents were asked to assess the level of their own political and social knowledge. A number of questions explored knowledge on what the concepts of politics, democracy and political left and right entail. The respondents also graded the functionality of Finnish democracy and placed themselves on the left-right axis. Further questions investigated factual knowledge on Finnish constitution, proportional electoral system, electoral districts, functions of political parties, functions and powers of Parliament and the Prime Minister, parties represented in the coalition government and Parliament, elections, national incomes policy negotiations, etc. Knowledge on EU issues was charted by asking the respondents in what year Finland became a member state, which countries were members in the EU or belonged to the euro zone, powers of the EU, legislation, to which EU institution representatives were elected by direct vote, how many votes Finland had in the Council of Ministers, how many members Finland had in the European Parliament, what were powers of the Parliament and the length of the electoral period. Knowledge on Finnish national economy was explored through questions on local taxation, state budget, impact of inflation on purchasing power, and state income tax. Background variables included the respondent's gender, year of birth, municipality of residence, basic education, type of neighbourhood, annual gross income of the household, and mother tongue.",
"fi": "Kyselyssä selvitettiin Turun alueen lukioiden viimeisen vuosikurssin opiskelijoiden poliittis-yhteiskunnallista perustietämystä eli tietoja politiikan peruskäsitteistä, Suomen ja EU:n poliittisista järjestelmistä sekä kansantaloudesta. Lisäksi kartoitettiin mielipiteitä politiikasta ja demokratiasta. Tutkimus on osa Suomalaisten politiikkatietämys kansainvälisessä vertailussa 2007-2010 -hanketta. Samoja kysymyksiä on esitetty myös hankkeen muissa arkistoiduissa aineistoissa: FSD2344 Yhteiskuntatutkimus 2008: Turun alueen ammatti-instituuttikysely 2007-2008 ja FSD2499 Yhteiskuntatutkimus 2008. Projektia rahoittivat oikeusministeriö sekä opetus- ja kulttuuriministeriö. Vastaajalta kysyttiin kuinka kiinnostunut hän on politiikasta ja kuinka paljon hän on saanut eri lähteistä tietoja yhteiskunnallisten asioiden ymmärtämiseksi. Edelleen kysyttiin, kuinka läheisiksi vastaaja kokee puolueet ja eri kansalaisjärjestöt. Kysyttiin myös äänestämisen tärkeydestä eri vaaleissa, ehdokas- ja puoluevalinnoista sekä yhteiskunnallisen osallistumisen aktiivisuudesta ja eri tavoista. Vastaaja kertoi, kuinka tärkeinä yhteiskunnallisen tiedon kanavina hän pitää televisiota, radiota, lehtiä, internetiä, erilaisia tilaisuuksia ja henkilökohtaisia keskusteluja. Edelleen vastaaja arvioi television katseluun, radion kuunteluun, sanomalehtien lukemiseen ja internetin käyttöön päivittäin käyttämäänsä aikaa. Vastaajan yleistietoja politiikasta kartoitettiin kysymällä ensin kuinka hyvin vastaaja itse arvioi tuntevansa yhteiskunnallisia asioita. Vastaaja määritteli ja eritteli muiden muassa käsitteitä politiikka, demokratia, vasemmisto ja oikeisto. Lisäksi vastaajan faktatietämystä ja politiikan peruskäsitteiden tuntemusta kartoitettiin kysymyksillä suhteellisesta vaalitavasta, vaalipiirijaosta, parlamentarismista, punamullasta, kolmikantaneuvotteluista, tuposta ja EU-asetuksesta. Suomen poliittiseen järjestelmään liittyen kysyttiin, mille taholle kuuluu valtiollinen valta perustuslain mukaan. Vastaaja arvioi edelleen puolueiden toiminnan tärkeyttä eri osa-alueilla kuten kansalaiskeskustelun ylläpitämisessä, poliittisten johtajien rekrytoinnissa, intressien yhteensovittamisessa ja yhteiskunnan tasapainoisessa kehittämisessä. Kysyttiin myös, kuinka usein Suomessa järjestetään kunnallisvaalit, minkä poliittisen päätöksentekijän kuntalaiset niissä valitsevat, kuka on vastaajan asuinkunnan kunnanjohtaja ja mikä on kunnanvaltuuston suurin puolue. Edelleen tiedusteltiin, kuinka usein Suomessa järjestetään eduskuntavaalit, mikä poliittinen päätöksentekijä niissä valitaan, mitä tehtäviä perustuslain mukaan kuuluu eduskunnalle ja pääministerille, kuinka monta kansanedustajaa kuuluu eduskuntaan, mitkä puolueet ovat edustettuina eduskunnassa ja hallituksessa, kuka on Suomen pääministeri ja puhemies ja mitä puoluetta he edustavat sekä milloin järjestetään seuraavat eduskuntavaalit. Edelleen kysyttiin, kuka tai ketkä johtavat Suomen ulkopolitiikkaa sekä kuinka pitkä on tasavallan presidentin virkakausi. Vastaajan tietoja Euroopan unionista ja sen poliittisesta järjestelmästä tarkasteltiin kysymällä, milloin Suomesta tuli unionin jäsen, mitkä maat kuuluvat Euroopan unioniin ja missä maissa on käytössä yhteisvaluutta euro. Edelleen kysyttiin mikä on EU:n ylin lakiasäätävä elin, mihin EU-toimielimeen valitaan edustajat suorilla vaaleilla, kuinka monta ääntä Suomella on EU:n neuvostossa, kuinka monta edustajaa Suomella on Euroopan parlamentissa ja kuinka pitkä on Euroopan parlamentin toimikausi. Lopuksi tarkasteltiin vastaajan tietoja kansantaloudesta. Kysymyksiä esitettiin kunnallisveroprosentista, Suomen valtion vuotuisista menoista, inflaation vaikutuksesta ostovoimaan ja valtion tuloverotuksesta. "en": "The survey studied several themes, including the use of media, social trust, political participation and interest, political trust, political orientation and commitment, satisfaction with own circumstances and certain public services, perceptions of own well-being, religious views, experiences of discrimination, and national and ethnic identity. These themes are recurring in different ESS rounds. Themes for the rotating modules in this collection round included timing of life events and pensions. The survey also charted participation in voluntary work and charity, subjective well-being, and satisfaction in job and wages. The self-administered follow-up questionnaire included the Schwartz Human Values Scale as well as test questions controlling the main questionnaire. Questions about income and income disparity were also asked. The respondents' socio-demographics were widely charted, including, among others, household composition, gender, age, type of neighbourhood, education, occupation, background information on spouse and parents, trade union membership, household income, and marital status.",

"en": "The data are part of the Jyväskylä Longitudinal Study of Personality and Social Development (JYLS), in which the same individuals have been followed since 1968. At this research stage, conducted in 2009, data were collected using a Life Situation Questionnaire, an interview, a personality test, questionnaires, and a medical examination. This dataset contains the medical examinations of 50-year-olds. First, the respondents were requested to evaluate their health and to fill in a health assessment record. The medical checkup conducted by the nurse included the recording of measurements such as height and weight, waist circumference, blood pressure and heart rate. The respondents also took a hand grip strength test. Further, a category fluency task, a word list learning trial, and a delayed recall test were conducted to test the respondents' memory. A new addition to the set of memory tests was a backward digit span task. The second stage of the study investigated the diseases and injuries of the respondents, who were asked whether they had any endocrine disorders, cardiovascular diseases or mental disorders. Those who suffered from a disease or disorder were further asked what the year of diagnosis had been, what medication they used and whether their condition was improving or declining. Further questions investigated treatments received in a psychiatric hospital, a drug or alcohol rehabilitation centre or non-institutional care after the year 2000. Diseases and disorders affecting the respondents' ability to work were charted. The onset, medication, surgical treatment and the progression of these diseases or disorders were studied. Additionally, the respondents were asked if they had been in rehabilitation because of their disease or disorder. The women were asked whether their menopause had begun, what symptoms they had, and what medication they were using, if any. Other topics included: injuries that the respondents had sustained after the year 2000, the severity of these injuries, the situation in which injured, and whether alcohol was involved. Some questions covered traffic behaviour. Lastly, those respondents who had been referred to treatment or a follow-up after the year 2001 medical examination, were asked whether they had sought the treatment according to instructions. The laboratory tests used in this study were the same as those when the respondents were 42 years old: blood count, liver function test, blood glucose test, lipid profile and high sensitive C-reactive protein test. Käytännössä aineistoa hyödynnetään yleensä yhteistyössä Lapsesta aikuiseksi -hankkeen tutkijoiden kanssa. Käyttölupahakemusmenettely poikkeaa tietoarkiston normaalista käytännöstä. Hakemusmenettely on kaksiportainen: Ensimmäisessä vaiheessa tietoarkisto hyväksyy hakemuksen, minkä jälkeen hakija saa käyttöönsä koodikirjat, jotka sisältävät kyselylomakkeet, muuttujaluettelot ja muuttujien suorat jakaumat. Toisessa vaiheessa hakija tekee tietoarkistolta saamansa materiaalin pohjalta tutkimussuunnitelman, jossa yksilöi tarvitsemansa muuttujat. "en": "This Finnish study has continued to follow the same individuals for over 40 years. At this research wave the subjects were 50 years old. Data were collected using an interview, self-ratings based on various tests and methods, a Life Situation Questionnaire, a life history calendar, a medical examination, and laboratory tests. This dataset contains three personality tests which were given to the participants in connection with the interview to be completed at home. The first personality test, the Karolinska Scales of Personality (KSP), contains 135 questions, and measures impulsiveness, anxiety, aggressiveness and social adaptation. The respondents' habits, opinions and feelings connected to different situations were tested. The second test, the NEO Personality Inventory (NEO PI), contains 60 of the original 181 questions and measures extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism and openness to experience. The third test, Schwartz's Value Survey, measures the importance respondents place on values. The respondents were requested to rate values (such as freedom, authority and self-discipline) and behaviour/courses of action (e.g. honest, loyal, helpful, respecting elders) on a 9-point scale. They were asked to mark what values and behaviour/courses of action were the most important to them, what they opposed, what were the least important etc. Background variable used: the respondent's gender.",

Study history, current employment situation, employment history between the graduate and the latest postgraduate degrees, and job searching methods were investigated. They were asked to specify how long they had been in permanent, part-time or temporary employment, how long they had been self-employed, and also the duration of their studies and potential unemployment periods. The respondents were also asked about the employer sectors they had worked in, whether they had abstained from work because of postgraduate studies, how they had financed their postgraduate studies, and whether they had worked abroad. In relation to job searching, the respondents were asked how they had found their current job, which job searching methods they had used after receiving their postgraduate degrees, what kind of jobs they had applied for and where. Current employment situation, employment history before and after graduation, and experiences of unemployment after graduation were investigated. The respondents were asked about the nature of the current job and whether the job was commensurate with their qualifications. One topic covered job searching methods used. The respondents were also asked which factors were most important in obtaining their current job and which factors may have hindered or prevented them from finding a job. Views were probed on whether they had gained useful skills and abilities (e.g. information seeking skills, social skills, language skills, problem solving skills) from their studies. "fi": "Tutkimuksessa selvitettiin Tampereen yliopistosta 2006 valmistuneiden sijoittumista työelämään sekä tarkasteltiin erilaisia työnhakuun liittyviä tekijöitä. Vastaajilta tiedusteltiin tämänhetkistä työtilannetta, työssäolokuukausia yleensä, työssäolokuukausia koulutusta vastaavissa tehtävissä sekä työttömyyskuukausien määrää valmistumisen jälkeen ennen ensimmäistä työpaikkaa. Lisäksi kartoitettiin, minkälaisissa töissä vastaajat ovat opiskeluaikoinaan mahdollisesti olleet. Työssäolevilta vastaajilta kysyttiin nykyisen työnantajan tyyppiä, ammattinimikettä ja päätyön luonnetta. Heiltä tiedusteltiin myös, mitkä olivat tärkeimmät hakukanavat nykyisen työpaikan saamisessa ja kuinka paljon eri tekijät vaikuttivat myönteisesti työpaikan saamiseen. Kaikilta kysyttiin, mitkä tekijät ovat mahdollisesti vaikeuttaneet tai estäneet työllistymistä koulutustasoa vastaaviin tehtäviin. Lopuksi kartoitettiin tyytyväisyyttä tutkintoon. Vastaajia pyydettiin arvioimaan, kuinka paljon heidän nykyiset työtehtävänsä vastaavat vaatimustasoltaan yliopistollista tutkintoa. Lisäksi kysyttiin, miten tyytyväisiä vastaajat ovat Tampereen yliopistossa annettuun opetustarjontaan ja heitä pyydettiin kertomaan omin sanoin, mihin he ovat erityisen tyytyväisiä ja tyytymättömiä. Vastaajia pyydettiin myös punnitsemaan, kuinka paljon yliopisto-opiskelu on kehittänyt työelämässä hyödyllisiä tieto- ja taitoalueita, kuten omaan alaan liittyvää teoreettista ja käytännön osaamista, tiedonhankintataitoja sekä ongelmanratkaisukykyä. The survey was divided into four different parts; education history, current employment status and employment history, factors affecting employment, and happiness with the employment situation and the degree programmes at the University of Tampere. The survey was sent to those graduates who had received 10 credits (ECTS) or less in the year following their graduation. The first part of the survey studied the respondents' current education and their plans for education in the future. The second part of the survey charted the current employment and the employment history of the respondents. This included questions on the type and length of current employment and the type of employment the participants had had during their studies. The third part of the survey charted which factors had been the most important in obtaining their current job and which factors may have hindered or prevented them from finding a job. The respondents were also asked about the channels they used when looking for work. In the fourth part of the survey, the respondents were asked about their happiness with their current employment situation, their view on how their job corresponded with their education, and what advantages having a bachelor's degree had given them in the labour market. The respondents were also asked about their satisfaction with the degree programmes at the University of Tampere. The survey also investigated their views on whether their education had provided them with useful skills and abilities (e.g. information seeking skills, social skills, language skills, skills related to the field of study) that were relevant in working life. The background variables were the respondent's degree programme, faculty, field of study, gender, and time of starting studies.",
"fi": "Aineistossa kartoitetaan vuonna 2013 valmistuneiden kandidaattien työelämään sijoittumista erilaisilla työtilanteeseen, työhistoriaan ja työllistymiseen liittyvillä kysymyksillä. Sijoittumisseurantakysely on lähetetty kandidaateille, jotka ovat valmistumisen jälkeisenä vuonna suorittaneet enintään kymmenen opintopistettä, jotta kysely on voitu kohdistaa paremmin erityisesti työelämään siirtyneille kandidaateille. Kyselyssä kartoitettiin aluksi vastaajien koulutus- ja tutkintotaustaa, esimerkiksi aiempia tutkintoja ja suunnitelmia maisterin tutkintoa koskien. Seuraavaksi kysyttiin kandidaattien työtilannetta valmistumisen jälkeen: montako kuukautta on ollut työttömänä tai työssä; millaista työtä on tehnyt ja mikä taho on ollut työnantajana. Kyselyssä tiedusteltiin myös kandidaattien työllistymiseen vaikuttaneita tekijöitä, kuten hakukanavia, eri taitojen ja kokemusten vaikutuksia työpaikan saamiseen sekä työllistymistä vaikeuttaneita asioita. "en": "The survey charted Finnish attitudes towards energy policy issues. The data are part of an extensive survey series launched in 1983. The respondents' conceptions, opinions, beliefs, assessments, attitudes, and knowledge about various energy issues were studied by presenting several statements about energy production and energy conservation. The respondents were also asked in what direction electric power production should be developed in Finland. Some questions charted what motivates or hinders citizens' individual energy saving, and probed the respondents' views on how reliable they thought certain bodies (e.g. electric power companies, nature conservation organizations) were as an information source of household energy saving issues. The respondents were also asked what they thought about the parliament's decision not to approve the construction of a fifth nuclear power plant. Background variables included the respondent's gender, age, size of the municipality of residence, region, occupation, education, and which political party R would vote for if the parliamentary elections were held at that time.",
"fi": "Tutkimuksessa selvitettiin väestön suhtautumista energiapoliittisiin kysymyksiin. Aineisto on osa laajaa 1983 aloitettua tutkimussarjaa. Vastaajien erilaisia energia-asioita koskevia käsityksiä, kannanottoja, mielipiteitä, uskomuksia, arvostuksia, asenteita ja tietoja kartoitettiin esittämällä useita energian tuotantoon liittyviä väitteitä. Vastaajilta tiedusteltiin myös mihin suuntaan Suomen sähköntuotantoa tulisi kehittää. Lisäksi tutkimuksessa selvitettiin henkilökohtaisen energiansäästön motiiveita ja esteitä sekä tarkasteltiin eri tiedonlähteiden luotetavuutta energiansäästöasioissa. Lopuksi kysyttiin, mitä mieltä vastaajat ovat eduskunnan kielteisestä viidennen ydinvoimalan rakentamispäätöksestä. Taustamuuttujina ovat mm. sukupuoli, ikä, asuinpaikkakunnan koko, lääni, ammatti, koulutus ja poliittinen suuntautuneisuus."

"en": "The survey studied Finnish public opinion on energy policy issues. The data are part of an extensive survey series launched in 1983. The respondents' conceptions, opinions, beliefs, assessments, attitudes and knowledge about various energy issues were studied by presenting several statements about energy production. The respondents were also asked in what direction the electricity power production should be developed in Finland and how important they regarded the following factors connected with energy production to be: price, non-polluting energy, availability, domestic energy sources, safety and production reliability. Moreover, the respondents were asked whether they would prefer nuclear power to coal, and whether they thought it probable that certain things would happen within the next ten years (e.g. the building of the fifth nuclear energy power plant, or Finland's membership in the EU). Finally, the respondents answered questions about their own energy saving habits and how acceptable to them various ways of protesting against the potential nuclear power plant project would be. Background variables included the respondent's gender, age, size of the location of residence, region, occupation, education, and which political party R would vote for if the parliamentary elections were held at that time.",

Lopuksi tiedusteltiin henkilökohtaista energiansäästöä ja suhtautumista erilaisiin (oletetun) ydinvoimalahankkeen vastustuskeinoihin. Taustamuuttujina ovat mm. sukupuoli, ikä, asuinpaikkakunnan koko, lääni, ammatti, koulutus ja poliittinen suuntautuneisuus."
