"en": "The sociobarometer is a wide-ranging survey charting expert opinion on the welfare of Finnish citizens, and on the present state of welfare services. Themes for the 2013 survey included the public service reform, use of social security benefits, welfare and health promotion, and employing the unemployed. The survey also studied the general well-being of the Finnish population, cooperation of municipalities and organisations in the National Development Program of Health and Social Services (Kaste), and the state of services provided by the Social Insurance Institution of Finland (Kela) and employment agencies. The respondents were managers or management groups of municipal social services offices, municipal health centres (primary health care), employment offices, local offices of the Social Insurance Institution of Finland, and chairs of municipal social services boards. There were separate questionnaires for each organisational sector, with somewhat differing questions for each. The questions common to all organisations studied opinions on the general well-being of the population in the municipality/area and whether there were sufficient resources to provide the required services at the time of the survey and 12 months after the survey. Regarding service provision, the respondents were asked about cooperation and service provision strategies. The respondents were also asked to evaluate the social services provided by the municipality, and the customer orientation of these services. Furthermore, the offices of Kela were asked to evaluate how well different parts of Kela's customer service functioned. Competitive procurement of services was investigated with questions about outsourced services, their oversight, and different strategies regarding outsourced services. The respondents were also asked to assess several suggestions regarding the new national public procurement law. Views of the the health and social service reform were surveyed by asking how well-integrated the services of the area were, and which areas would benefit the most from integration of the services. Furthermore, the respondents were asked how the basic level of services in the area could be improved. Regarding long-term unemployment, the respondents were asked about the possibilities for different organisations to offer services for the long-term unemployed and how provision of certain services would affect the circumstances of the unemployed. Cooperation between social services and employment agencies was investigated. Employment agencies were also asked about the significance of vocational education in improving the employment situation and how effectively different organisations in the area could employ the long-term unemployed. Promotion of health and well-being was examined by charting, among others, the role of various institutions and organisations in promoting health and well-being. Finally, views on the use and misuse of social security benefits were investigated. The background variables included, depending on the organisation, name of the organisation, municipality/area, and statistical grouping of the municipality (urban, semi-urban, rural).",
"fi": "Sosiaalibarometrit ovat tutkimuksellisia ajankohtaisselvityksiä, joiden tarkoituksena on tuottaa mahdollisimman ajan tasalla olevaa tietoa hyvinvointipalvelujen, palvelujärjestelmän ja hyvinvoinnin tilanteesta ja niiden muutossuunnista. Vuoden 2013 Sosiaalibarometri-kyselyssä ajankohtaisteemoina ovat muun muassa palveluiden toteutuminen ja uudistaminen, työttömien työllistäminen, sosiaalietuuksien käyttö sekä hyvinvoinnin ja terveyden edistäminen. Lisäksi kyselyssä tarkastellaan väestön hyvinvoinnin tilannetta, kuntien ja järjestöjen yhteistyötä Kaste-ohjelmassa sekä Kelan ja TE-toimistojen palveluiden tilannetta. Kyselyssä vastaajina ovat kuntien sosiaalihuollon, Kansaneläkelaitoksen toimistojen, työ- ja elinkeinotoimistojen ja terveyskeskuksien johtavissa asemissa olevat työntekijät sekä sosiaalihuollon lautakuntien puheenjohtajat. Kyselyssä kartoitetaan laaja-alaisesti vastaajien taustaorganisaatioiden tilannetta. Ensimmäisenä teemana kyselyssä oli hyvinvoinnin tilanne ja voimavarat, joihin liittyen kartoitettiin vastaajien alueen väestön hyvinvoinnin kehitystä ja kuntalaisten tarvitsemien sosiaali- ja terveyspalveluiden turvaamista nykyisillä resursseilla. Lisäksi tiedusteltiin, miten eri palvelut toteutuvat kunnissa: sosiaali- ja terveyspalveluiden osalta kysyttiin muun muassa palvelujen laadun ja tehokkuuden, asiakkaiden oikeusturvan ja kustannustietoisuuden toteutumisesta. Kelan toimistojen johdolta kysyttiin Kelan asiakaspalvelun, esimerkiksi neuvonnan, etuuksien hakemisen ja käsittelyn sekä päätösten selkeyttä ja toimivuutta. Seuraavaksi tarkasteltiin osatyökykyisten tai pitkittyneesti työttömien työllistämistä. Sosiaalihuollon, Kelan toimistojen sekä TE-toimistojen johdolta tiedusteltiin muun muassa eri tahojen mahdollisuuksia tukea ja tarjota palveluita työttömille sekä TE-toimiston ja muiden tahojen palveluiden, kuten työkokeilujen, ammatinvalinnanohjauksen ja kuntouttavan työtoiminnan vaikutusta osatyökykyisten tai pitkittyneesti työttömien tilanteeseen. Lisäksi osalta vastaajista kysyttiin, mitä palveluita tulisi kehittää kiireellisimmin ja miten yhteistyö toimii TE-toimiston ja kunnan sosiaalitoimen välillä. Kyselyssä kartoitettiin myös vastaajien näkemyksiä terveyden ja hyvinvoinnin edistämisestä. Vastaajia pyydettiin arvioimaan eri seikkojen, kuten resursoinnin, yhteistyön eri tahojen välillä ja kuntalaisten vaikutusmahdollisuuksien, toteutumista alueellaan. Lisäksi kysyttiin, miten merkittävinä vastaajat näkivät eri tahojen, kuten sosiaalitoimen, terveystoimen, koulu-/sivistystoimen, järjestöjen tai poliisin, roolin hyvinvoinnin ja terveyden edistämisessä. Lopuksi vastaajilta kysyttiin näkemyksiä sosiaalietuuksien saamisesta ja väärinkäytöstä. Heitä pyydettiin arvioimaan muun muassa sosiaalietuuksien väärinkäytön yleisyyttä sekä sitä, miten suurena ongelmana he pitivät sitä, että ihmiset eivät saa niitä sosiaalietuuksia, joihin heillä on oikeus, tai sitä, että sosiaalietuuksia käytetään tietoisesti väärin. Lisäksi sosiaalitoimen ja terveyskeskusten johdolta sekä sosiaalihuollon lautakuntien puheenjohtajilta kartoitettiin kuntien ja järjestöjen yhteistyön toimivuutta Kaste-ohjelmassa. Taustatietoina ovat vastaajaryhmästä riippuen muun muassa vastaajan organisaatio, organisaation sijaintialue sekä alueellinen kuntaryhmitys."

Variables related to labour force and unemployment include the amount of labour force, unemployment rate, the number of unemployed job-seekers and laid-off workers, and the number of long-term unemployed and repeatedly unemployed. The data also include information on vacancies notified to Employment and Economic Development Office and filled vacancies. The data include information on the duration of the periods of unemployment during the year, and on the reasons why the periods of unemployment had ended (e.g. employment, measures of employment administration, labour market training, and unemployment pension). There are also data on the number of employment policy statements and job-seekers' individual action plans, as well as on the recipients of labour market subsidy. In addition, the dataset contains information on the job-seekers employed with the aid of employment administration measures, and on the job-seekers who have finished labour market adult education, subsidised employment, or labour market subsidy traineeship. The data also contain information on the job-seekers' situation 3 months after the implementation of various employment policy measures (e.g. wage subsidy and other employment subsidies, preparatory labour market training, vocational labour market training, labour market subsidy traineeship and self-motivated education). The dataset includes the man-years of the Employment and Economic Development Office sorted by employee groups.",

The data have have been compiled of job advertisements, and each individual vacancy mentioned in the advertisements has been counted. There is information on open vacancies, employers, and the process of filling the job vacancies. The information on open vacancies covers variables such as the location, occupation, and duration of the vacancy, the employer's industry of employment, educational requirements, working hours, staff size, the type of workplace, the deadline for applications, and the starting date of the job. In addition, the data contain variables providing information on the number of open vacancies in the advertisements and the number of rows in the advertisement. The public employment agencies (TE Offices) and Centres for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment (ELY Centres) located in the region of the open vacancies are also included in the data. Various duration variables have been added to the data. These variables include the duration the vacancy was open, the time of recruiting, and the time it took to fill the vacancy. These variables have their own calculation rules. The data also include regional variables such as the sub-region, degree of urbanisation, and town.",

Aineisto on koottu työpaikkailmoituksista, joista on laskettu kussakin ilmoituksessa avoinna olevien työpaikkojen määrä. Aineisto sisältää tietoja avoinna olleista työpaikoista, niitä tarjoavista työnantajista ja työpaikan täyttöprosessista. Aineistossa mainitaan avoinna olevista työpaikoista muun muassa työpaikan sijaintikunta, työpaikan ammatti, työnantajan toimiala, työpaikan koulutusvaatimus, työaika, työn kesto, henkilökunnan koko, työnantajan sektori ja työpaikan tyyppi. Lisäksi aineistossa ovat tiedot työpaikan viimeisestä hakupäivämäärästä, aiottu työn alkamispäivä, avoinnaolon alkamis- ja päättymispäivä sekä täyttötieto. Muuttujina ovat myös työpaikkojen määrä ilmoituksessa, työpaikkailmoitusrivien alkuperäinen määrä ilmoituksessa ja työhönosoitusten määrä. Aineistossa ovat myös työ- ja elinkeinotoimistot (TE-toimistot) sekä elinkeino-, liikenne- ja ympäristökeskukset (ELY-keskukset), joiden alueella työpaikka on ollut. Aineistoon on lisätty erilaisia kestomuuttujia. Tällaisia ovat muun muassa avoinnaolon kesto, rekrytointiaika ja täyttöviive. Näille muuttujille on omat laskentasääntönsä, ks. esim. Räisänen, Heikki (2004): Työvoiman hankinta julkisessa työnvälityksessä. VATT-tutkimuksia 107. Aineistossa ovat mukana myös aluemuuttujat seutukunta, tilastollinen kuntatyyppi ja suurkaupunki."

"en": "The survey focused on the well-being of staff in primary and secondary schools and upper secondary institutions in Finland. Staff opinions on school facilities, working conditions, social relationships, and means for self-fulfilment in school were studied, as well as their health status. The survey contained both statements and multiple choice questions. The respondents indicated to what extent they agreed with the statements using a five-point scale (i.e. from \"strongly agree\" to \"strongly disagree\"). School facilities were studied with a number of questions about the classroom (e.g. size, temperature, ventilation, desks), toilet facilities, the dining room, the schoolyard and the school building (e.g. safety, functionality). Access to the occupational health nurse and counselling supervision were charted as well as opinions on the school timetable, school rules and punishments, order in the classroom, pace of work, and the workload. The statements relating to social relationships canvassed relations between staff members, and between the staff and students. The survey also covered opinions on whether parents were participating in solving problems concerning their children or in developing the school, and whether parents appreciated the work done by the staff or were willing to discuss issues with teachers. Views were probed on whether staff members were treated equally, and whether it was easy to get along with the headmaster or get help from him/her if needed. In addition, the respondents were asked whether they had been bullied or harassed at work during the ongoing term and whether they themselves had bullied or harassed someone else. The statements on self-fulfilment explored different aspects of working in a school. Views were probed on whether staff opinions were taken into account in developing the school and in drawing up school rules, and whether the school encouraged the staff to express their views. The respondents were asked whether they felt that their work is appreciated, whether they had found a suitable method for doing their work, and whether they received help from the headmaster/their supervisor or support from other staff members. Regarding health, the respondents were asked about their self-perceived general health and whether they had had various symptoms (e.g. stomach ache, sleeping problems, headache, fear, anxiety) during the ongoing term. Background variables included the respondent's gender, working hours (part-time or full time), number of years working in the school, and type of contract.",
"fi": "Tässä aineistossa tarkastellaan henkilökunnan hyvinvointia ala- ja yläkouluissa sekä toisen asteen oppilaitoksissa. Kyselyn teemat ovat koulun olosuhteet, sosiaaliset suhteet, itsensä toteuttamisen mahdollisuudet ja terveydentila. Kysymykset on esitetty väittäminä ja monivalintakysymyksinä. Väittämiä arvioidaan viisiportaisella asteikolla \"täysin samaa mieltä\" - \"täysin eri mieltä\". Koulun olosuhteita kartoittavat kysymykset liittyvät koulun tiloihin ja toimintaan. Henkilökunnalta kysytään esimerkiksi luokkien koosta, lämpötilasta, ilmanvaihdosta, tilojen siisteydestä, wc-tiloista sekä pihan ja koulurakennuksen viihtyisyydestä ja turvallisuudesta. Vastaajat arvioivat myös oppituntien työrauhaa, työn määrän sopivuutta, työskentelyn kiireisyyttä, koulun sääntöjen järkevyyttä sekä onko työterveyshoitajan luo ja työnohjaukseen helppo päästä. Sosiaalisiin suhteisiin liittyvissä väittämissä tarkastellaan henkilökunnan keskinäisiä suhteita, suhdetta oppilaisiin ja oppilaiden vanhempien osallistumista koulunkäyntiin. Vastaajilta kysytään esimerkiksi yhteistyön sujumisesta, työtoverien toisilleen tarjoamasta avusta, oppilaiden ystävällisyydestä ja onko rehtorin kanssa helppo tulla toimeen. Henkilökunta arvioi myös, arvostavatko oppilaiden vanhemmat koulun työtä ja osallistuvatko he lastaan koskevien ongelmien selvittämiseen. Lisäksi kartoitetaan esiintyykö työyhteisössä työpaikkakiusaamista ja onko vastaaja itse työpaikkakiusaamisen kohteena kyseisessä koulussa. Itsensä toteuttamisen mahdollisuuksiin liittyvät väittämät koskevat työskentelyä koulussa. Esimerkiksi kokeeko vastaaja, että hänen työtään arvostetaan kouluyhteisössä, hänen mielipiteensä otetaan huomioon koulun kehittämisessä ja onko vastaaja löytänyt itselleen sopivan työskentelytavan, arvostaako hän omaa työtään koulussa ja saako hän tarvitessaan apua rehtorilta/esimieheltä. Terveydentilaa koskevissa kysymyksissä vastaaja arvioi onko hänellä ollut erilaisia oireita ja sairauksia (mm. vatsakipuja, vaikeuksia päästä uneen tai heräilemistä öisin, päänsärkyä, alakuloisuutta ja pelkoa) kuluvan lukukauden aikana. Taustakysymykset ovat sukupuoli, työuran pituus kyseisessä koulussa, työsuhteen laatu ja työskentelyn kokopäiväisyys/osa-aikaisuus."

"en": "The survey focused on school well-being in upper secondary institutions in Finland, studying student opinions on school facilities, the learning environment, social relationships in school, and means for self-fulfilment in school, as well as the students' perceived health status. The survey contained both statements and multiple choice questions. The respondents indicated to what extent they agreed with the statements using a five-point scale (i.e. from \"strongly agree\" to \"strongly disagree\"). Facilities in the educational institution were studied with a number of questions about the classrooms (e.g. size, temperature, ventilation, desks), toilet facilities, the dining room, the yard and the building (e.g. safety, functionality). Access to the school nurse and the school welfare officer were charted as well as opinions on the study timetable, order in the class, rules and punishments, and the amount of studying. The statements relating to social relationships canvassed student-student relationships (e.g. classmate support, being accepted by others) and teacher-student relationships (e.g. fairness and friendliness of teachers). The respondents were asked whether they had been bullied at school during the ongoing term and whether they themselves had bullied someone else. The students assessed whether their family appreciated their school work, whether their family motivated them for better performance in studies, and whether their family helped them with study-related issues. The statements on self-fulfilment explored different aspects of school work. Opinions were charted on whether student opinions were taken into account in developing the school and in drawing up school rules (school democracy), and whether teachers encouraged students to express their views. Views were probed on whether the respondents appreciated their studies, whether school work was easy for them, whether they had found a study method that suited them, and whether they had a chance to receive remedial teaching or other support if needed. Regarding health, the respondents were asked about their perceived general health and whether they had had various symptoms (e.g. stomach ache, sleeping problems, headache, fear, anxiety) during the ongoing term. Background variables included the respondent's gender, age, grade, and class id.",
"fi": "Tässä aineistossa tarkastellaan toisen asteen oppilaitosten opiskelijoiden hyvinvointia oppilaitoksessa. Kyselyn teemat ovat oppilaitoksen olosuhteet, sosiaaliset suhteet, itsensä toteuttamisen mahdollisuudet ja terveydentila. Kysymykset on esitetty väittäminä ja monivalintakysymyksinä. Väittämiä arvioidaan viisiportaisella asteikolla \"täysin samaa mieltä\" - \"täysin eri mieltä\". Oppilaitoksen olosuhteita kartoittavat kysymykset liittyvät oppilaitoksen tiloihin ja toimintaan. Opiskelijoilta kysytään esimerkiksi luokkien koosta, lämpötilasta, ilmanvaihdosta, tilojen siisteydestä, wc-tiloista sekä pihan ja koulurakennuksen viihtyisyydestä ja turvallisuudesta. "en": "The survey charted social media work done in the Evangelical Luther Church of Finland, as well as social media skills and attitudes towards social media. The survey began with questions on the respondents' use of social media and the Internet both in their work and in their leisure time. The respondents were also asked why they began working in social media and whether the time reserved for social media work was sufficient. Next, they were asked about the type of social media work that their parish did. The choices included: live streaming of church services, online discussions on the Internet in different forums, and contacting the youth, for example, through Facebook. Next, the survey charted respondent views on who in the church should be responsible for different types of social media work, such as building new social media services or marketing them. The respondents' views on social media education provided by the church were also studied. Those who had not participated in the social media education were asked why not. One question focused on what kind of support the respondents would like to have for social media work. In the next part, attitudes and experiences regarding web-based work and social media were investigated. The respondents were asked to what extent they agreed or disagreed a number of statement covering, for example, work community attitudes towards web-based work, interaction on the Internet, different ways of using social media, and motivation for social media use. The background variables included the respondents' age, gender, size of the parish, the type of municipality they worked in, the time they had worked for the church and their occupation. The respondents were also asked how often they read the Bible and prayed, and how conservative or liberal they felt their theological views were. Furthermore, the respondents were asked how much of their spiritual framework was influenced by revivalist movements and other religious movements within the Evangelical Lutheran Church.",
"fi": "Tutkimuksessa kartoitetaan seurakuntien verkkotyön organisointia ja nykytodellisuutta sekä työntekijöiden osaamista ja asenteita sosiaalisessa mediassa tehtävää työtä kohtaan. Tutkimuksessa tarkastellaan myös kirkon verkkotyön tulevaisuuden mahdollisuuksia ja toiveita työntekijöiden kokemuksen kautta. Aluksi käsiteltiin työn organisointia kysymällä tietokoneen ja Internetin käytöstä työssä sekä työskentelystä sosiaalisessa mediassa. Kysyttiin myös, miten verkossa yhteensä käytetty aika jakaantuu erilaisten tehtävien kesken. Kysymykset käsittelivät myös työntekijöiden osallistumista kirkon työntekijöille tarkoitettuun sosiaalisen median koulutukseen. Seuraavaksi kerättiin käsityksiä ja kokemuksia verkossa tehtävästä työstä. Näitä kartoitettiin esittämällä lukuisia väittämiä mm. työyhteisön suhtautumisesta verkkotyöhön, verkossa tapahtuvasta vuorovaikutuksesta sekä kuinka tärkeinä erilaisia asioita pidettiin kirkon verkkotyössä. Kysyttiin myös kokemuksista erilaisista sisällöntuotannon muodoista, sosiaalisen median käyttöön motivoivista tekijöistä, millaiseksi työ sosiaalisessa mediassa koettiin sekä millaisia asioita pidettiin seurakunnan kannalta mielekkäinä sosiaaliseen mediaan osallistumisen muotoina. Taustamuuttujina olivat sukupuoli, ikäryhmä, työskentelyhiippakunta, seurakunnan kokoluokka, työskentelypaikkakunnan tyyppi, työskentelyaika kirkon palveluksessa ja työtehtävä. Taustamuuttujien yhteydessä kysyttiin myös kuinka usein vastaaja lukee Raamattua, rukoilee ja kuinka teologisesti konservatiiviseksi tai liberaaliksi hän tuntee itsensä. Lisäksi kysyttiin, missä määrin vastaajan hengellisen viitekehyksen määrittävät ev. lut. kirkossa vaikuttavat herätysliikkeet ja muut uskonnolliset liikkeet."

"en": "The archived data consist of 25 interviews conducted to collect information for a nationwide guide on planning green areas in Finland. The interviewees were employees in the public, private, and third sector working in planning of urban nature. Interview themes included nature in cities, building of green spaces, and spatial planning. The data were gathered as a part of the Enhancing Sustainable Urban Development through Ecosystem Services (ENSURE) project, which aimed to produce interdiscplinary knowledge and tools for advancing sustainable development in urban areas. This part of the project was funded by Helsinki University Centre for Environment, HENVI (50%), and Finnish Environment Institute (50%). The interviews mostly followed the interview frame which was sent to the interviewees before the interview. The questions dealt with urban nature in one's work, relationship between man and nature from the viewpoint of urban planning, possibilities that nature in cities offers to people, benefits of green areas in cities, and significance of nature in different parts of the city. Furthermore, the interviewees were asked about possible conflicts in urban planning, how these conflicts could be solved, information required for effective planning, and who should be responsible for preserving nature in cities. Finally, the interviewees were asked about issues that the guidebook for planning of green areas should contain. The background information include the date and duration of the interviews, the number of interviewees, interviewee gender, education, organization, as well as organization location and working area. This dataset is only available in Finnish.",
"fi": "Haastatteluilla kerättiin tietoa kaupunkiseutujen viherrakenteen suunnittelua koskevaa opasta varten kaupunkisuunnittelun parissa työskenteleviltä julkisen, yksityisen ja kolmannen sektorin työntekijöiltä vuonna 2013. Haastatteluissa käsiteltiin kaupunkiluontoa, viherrakentamista ja yhdyskuntasuunnittelua. Aineisto koottiin osana Kestävää kaupunkikehitystä ekosysteemipalveluilla tutkimusohjelmaa (Enhancing Sustainable Urban Development through Ecosystem Services, ENSURE), jonka tavoitteena oli tuottaa monitieteistä tietoa ja työkaluja kestävän kehityksen edistämiseksi kaupunkiseuduilla. Tämän osatutkimuksen rahoittajia olivat Helsingin yliopiston ympäristötutkimuksen ja -opetuksen yksikkö HENVI (50%) ja Suomen ympäristökeskus (50%). Keskustelua käytiin mm. hulevesien hallinnasta, luonnon moninaisista hyvinvointivaikutuksista ja ekosysteemipalvelu-käsitteen käytettävyydestä. Edelleen haastatteluissa kysyttiin, kenen tulisi huolehtia ympäristö- ja luontoasioista maankäytön suunnittelussa. Keskustelua käytiin mm. maakunta- ja yleiskaavoituksen, asemakaavojen, viheralueohjelmien ja käytännön toteutuksen yhteensopivuudesta ja niiden kietoutumista poliittiseen päätöksentekoprosesseihin sekä järjestö- ja kansalaistoimintaan. Haastateltavilta tiedusteltiin mahdollisia ristiriitoja, joita syntyy suunnittelu- ja päätöksenteossa luonnonhyötyjen huomioimisen kannalta, ja miten näitä ristiriitoja voisi edistää esim. maankäyttö- ja rakennuslakia (MRL) uudistaessa. Lopuksi haastateltavilta kysyttiin, mitä tietoa kaupunkiluonnon parissa työskentelevät tarvitsevat enemmän ja mitä suunnitteilla olevan viherrakentamisen suunnitteluoppaan tulisi sisältää. Haastatteluissa on taustatiedot niiden suorittamispäivämäärästä, kestosta ja haastateltavien määrästä. "en": "The survey, conducted by the University of Eastern Finland, Finnish Environment Institute SYKE and Finnish Forest Research Institute charted second home tourism in Finland in 2012. Themes in the survey included, among others, living environment and activities for which second homes were used. The study was funded by the Academy of Finland (SA 255424). In addition to background variables, the respondents were first asked questions about their permanent residence, such as the type of housing, housing tenure, size of housing, years lived in the house/apartment, likelyhood of moving house in the following 5 and 10 years, and use of another apartment/house for study, work or other reasons. Further, the respondents were asked whether they had childhood experiences of spending time or living in the countryside, whether they had stayed overnight somewhere else than home in the previous 12 months and if so, where, in what kind of accommodation and how many nights. Regarding the access to and use of a second home (incl. owned summer cottages, long-term rental cottages, apartments or other dwellings used for leisure, accommodation in an allotment garden, timeshares, and travel trailers), the questions charted whether the respondents had access to a second home, how many different second homes they used per year, whether they were planning on getting a second home, and whether it was likely they were going to inherit a second home in the future. More detailed questions about the second home(s) used the most by the respondents included, among others, location, type, ownership, number of years used, type of neighbourhood, size, amenities, number of nights spent in the second home each month, transportation used to reach it, distance between home and the second home, and the importance of various services close to the second home (e.g. grocery shop, health care, Internet connection). Finally, living environments were investigated by asking the respondents what they regarded important in the environments of their permanent home and second home (e.g. possibility to spend time with family, possibility to enjoy nature, good connections), which changes had occurred in these environments and whether the changes were positive or negative, whether they thought spending leisure time at a second home had harmful effects on the environment, and how good a knowledge of environmental changes they had. Background variables included the respondent's gender, year of birth, spouse's/partner's year of birth, place of residence, education, economic activity and occupational status as well as the number of children in the household and gross annual income of the household.",

Kyselyn teemoja ovat muun muassa asumisen ympäristöt ja vapaa-ajan asuntojen käyttöön liittyvät tekijät. Tutkimusta on rahoittanut Suomen Akatemia (SA 255424). Kyselylomakkeen aluksi tiedusteltiin vastaajan taustatietoja ja vakituista asumista. Vakituiseen asumiseen liittyen kysyttiin asunnon tyyppiä, omistusmuotoa, kokoa ja asumisvuosia sekä muuttosuunnitelmia. Lisäksi tiedusteltiin, kuinka usein vastaaja on yöpynyt vapaa-ajalla kodin ulkopuolella, mitä majoitusmuotoja hän on käyttänyt ja missä paikoissa yöpynyt. Lomakkeen seuraava osio käsitteli vastaajan mahdollisuuksia käyttää vapaa-ajan asuntoa. Kysyttiin muun muassa aikomuksista hankkia vapaa-ajan asuntoa, vapaa-ajan asunnon tyyppiä, sen rakennettua ja luonnonympäristöä sekä pinta-alaa ja varustetasoa. Haluttiin myös tietää, kuinka usein ja kuinka monta yötä vastaaja viettää aikaa vapaa-ajan asunnolla kuukausittain, mitä kulkuvälineitä hän käyttää sekä etäisyyttä vakituiselta asunnolta. Lisäksi kartoitettiin syitä vapaa-ajan asunnon käyttöön sekä erilaisten palveluiden tärkeyttä. Kysymyksiin oli mahdollista vastata kahden eniten käyttämänsä vapaa-ajan asunnon osalta. Viimeisessä osiossa vertailtiin vakituisen ja vapaa-ajan asuntojen ympäristöjä. Tiedusteltiin kummankin asunnon osalta, kuinka tärkeänä vastaaja pitää esimerkiksi sitä, että saa olla perheen tai ystävien kanssa, pääsee irtautumaan arjesta ja laitteista, saa liikkua luonnossa ja kalastaa tai metsästää, asunto on hyvin varusteltu ja asuminen ympäristöystävällistä, ympäristö on turvallinen ja lapsi- ja lemmikkiystävällinen, liikenneyhteydet ovat hyvät tai työpaikka, koulu tai palvelut ovat lähellä. Lopuksi pyydettiin arvioimaan esimerkiksi liikenteen ja viheralueiden määrää vakituisen ja vapaa-ajan asuntojen ympäristöissä sekä vapaa-ajan asumisen ympäristövaikutuksia. Aineistossa ovat taustamuuttujina vastaajan sukupuoli ja syntymävuosi, puolison syntymävuosi, täysi-ikäisten ja alle 18-vuotiaiden määrä kotitaloudessa, kotipaikkakunnan tilastollinen kuntaryhmitys ja maakunta sekä syntymämaa, koulutus, asema ja kotitalouden yhteenlaskettu bruttovuositulo."

"en": "The data comprise transcribed interviews of seven pre-school aged children and their drawings. The interviews were conducted in a day nursery located in the Pirkanmaa region. The interviews charted what the children liked and disliked about their day nursery, what kind of games they played and with whom, why they played with certain children, and whether bullying occurred in the day nursery. The participants were also requested to draw a picture of a game they played with other children, and they were asked which game it was and who they played it with. The dataset is only available in Finnish.",
"fi": "Aineisto koostuu seitsemän esikouluikäisen lapsen litteroidusta haastattelusta sekä heidän piirustuksista. Haastatteluissa esikoululaisilta kysyttiin kysymyksiä liittyen leikkeihin ja leikkimiseen. Kaikki haastattelut tehtiin yhdessä Pirkanmaalaisessa päiväkodissa. Yksittäisissä kysymyksissä lapsilta kysyttiin mm. mikä päiväkodissa on kivaa ja mikä vähemmän kivaa, sekä mitä leikkejä lapset leikkivät ja kenen kanssa. Haastatteluissa pyrittiin myös selvittämään syitä siihen, miksi toisten kanssa leikitään ja toisten ei. Lapsilta kysyttiin myös kiusaamiseen liittyviä kysymyksiä. Kysyttiin mm. kiusataanko päiväkodissa joitakin lapsia, millaista kiusaaminen on ja onko se toistuvaa. Haastattelun yhteydessä lasta pyydettiin piirtämään kuva leikistä, jota hän leikkii päiväkodissa muiden lasten kanssa. Yhtä lukuunottamatta kaikki haastateltavat piirsivät myös kuvan. Piirtämisen yhteydessä lapselta kysyttiin mikä leikki piirustuksessa on kyseessä ja kenen kanssa hän kyseistä leikkiä leikkii. Haastateltavista oli poikia neljä ja tyttöjä kolme. Haastattelut kestivät 8-35 minuuttia. Aineistosta on tehty myös html-versio, jonka hakemiston avulla haastatteluja on helppo selata."

"en": "The theme of the Finnish Youth Survey 2015 was time management and time use. Questions charted hobbies, management of everyday life, sleep patterns, future, money and sources of income. First, the respondents were asked questions about hobbies and exercise as well as presented statements about satisfaction with themselves and their life. Management with everyday life (e.g. cooking, cleaning, buying groceries) was charted as well as bedtimes and wake times on weekdays and weekends. Perceptions of own future in the following ten years was surveyed. Relating to financial circumstances, the respondents were asked how easy it was for their household to cover expenses, whether lack of money had affected their leisure time, what their primary source of income was, and whether they had had to leave bills unpaid because of financial problems. Further questions investigated the respondents' possible non-payment records ('maksuhäiriömerkintä', incurred through failure to pay bills/debts), consumer loans, social security benefits and loans from parents as well as readiness to take loans and borrow money from friends and parents. Relating to social life, the respondents were asked how often they saw, phoned, and contacted their friends on the Internet, whether they felt lonely, and with whom they spent their leisure time. Identification with different groups was surveyed along with experiences of childhood home and atmosphere in home at the time of the survey. Some questions charted alcohol and drug use, smoking, gambling, and eating habits. Finally, satisfaction with financial circumstances, leisure time, social relationships, health, physical condition, appearance, and life on the whole were surveyed. Background variables included, among others, the respondent's gender, age, mother tongue, household composition, economic activity, education level, and average grade of the latest report card as well as type of municipality of residence, years lived in the municipality of residence, financial situation of the household, and parents' education levels.",

Kysymykset käsittelivät harrastuksia, arjen hallintaa, nukkumiseen käytettyä aikaa, tulevaisuutta, rahan puutetta ja tulonlähteitä. Vastaajilta kysyttiin yksinäisyyden tuntemuksista, ystävistä, vapaa-ajan vietosta sekä kuulumisesta erilaisiin yhteisöihin. Tiedusteltiin myös, millaiseksi vastaajat muistavat kotinsa ollessaan peruskouluikäisiä sekä esitettiin määreitä ja pyydettiin kertomaan, miten ne kuvasivat vastaajan tämänhetkistä kotia ja kodin ilmapiiriä. Kysyttiin myös tupakan, alkoholin ja huumeiden käytöstä sekä rahapelien pelaamisesta. Taustamuuttujia olivat sukupuoli, ikä, äidinkieli, äidin ja isän koulutustaso, opiskelu tällä hetkellä, suoritetut tutkinnot, palkkatyöhön osallistuminen sekä työttöminä olevien työttömyysjakson pituus. Lisäksi taustamuuttujiin sisältyi useita asuinpaikkaa ja asuinolosuhteita kuvaavia kysymyksiä."

"en": "The data charted the position, well-being and working experiences of doctoral students at Finnish universities. First, the respondents were asked about the funding of their studies as well as employment outside and at the university, how far they were in their studies, and what factors affected their studies negatively or positively. Their average weekly working time and satisfaction in their funding were also surveyed. Next, the quality of supervision received by the respondents was examined. The respondents were also asked if they worked as part of a research team and if the collaboration had been satisfactory or not. It was also examined whether the respondents had witnessed or been a victim of harassment or discrimination. The future plans of the respondents were charted with questions about the possibility of employment in a variety of fields (e.g. university professor, politician, government official, entrepreneur or researcher) and how attractive the respondents found these positions. The respondents were also asked if they would prefer to work in Finland or some other country. Finally, the well-being of respondents was examined with questions regarding health, social relations, and stress. Background variables included university, field of study, gender, age group, and enrollment year.",
"fi": "Aineistossa kartoitetaan suomalaisissa yliopistoissa opiskelevien jatko-opiskelijoiden hyvinvointia, työntekoa ja asemaa yliopistossa. Aluksi vastaajilta tiedusteltiin opintojen vaihetta, opintoihin positiivisesti ja negatiivisesti vaikuttaneita tekijöitä, työskentelyä yliopistossa tai sen ulkopuolella sekä opintojen rahoittamistapoja. Lisäksi kysyttiin työajan jakautumisesta eri tehtävien kesken, viikossa tehtyjen työtuntien määrästä ja tyytyväisyydestä rahoituksen määrään. Seuraavaksi kartoitettiin opiskelijan saaman ohjauksen määrää ja laatua. Vastaajilta kysyttiin myös, työskentelevätkö he osana tutkimusryhmää ja kuinka yhteistyö muiden tutkijoiden kanssa sujuu. Lisäksi tiedusteltiin, ovatko vastaajat kokeneet tai todistaneet häirintää. Vastaajilta kysyttiin myös heidän tulevaisuuden suunnitelmistaan. Tiedusteltiin muun muassa, kuinka todennäköisenä vastaaja pitää työllistymistä esimerkiksi yliopisto-opettajaksi, tutkijaksi, valtion virkamieheksi tai yrittäjäksi. Lisäksi kysyttiin, kuinka mielellään vastaaja työskentelisi eri tehtävissä valmistumisen jälkeen. Lopuksi kartoitettiin vastaajan hyvinvointia esimerkiksi terveyden, ihmissuhteiden ja stressin näkökulmasta. Aineistossa on taustamuuttujina muun muassa yliopisto, opiskeluala, sukupuoli, ikä luokiteltuna sekä opintojen aloitusvuosi luokiteltuna."

Vuonna 2013 kerätty aineisto koostuu yhteensä 31 sähköpostitse, chatissa ja skypessä käydystä keskustelusta. Suunta-palvelu on Pelastakaa Lapset ry:n tarjoama netissä toimiva anonyymi neuvontapalvelu peruskoulun tai muiden opintojen nivelvaiheessa oleville 15-25-vuotiaille nuorille. Vapaaehtoinen ohjaaja pyrkii tietojensa avulla ohjaamaan nuoren oikeiden palveluiden ja tiedon pariin sekä antamaan kannustusta ja tukea. Keskustelut ovat hyvin vapaamuotoisia ja etenevät nuoren ehdoilla. Nuoret kysyvät neuvoa muun muassa ammatin valintaan, työpaikan löytämiseen tai opiskeluja koskevaan näköalattomuuteen. Tilanteissa ohjaaja antaa tietoa eri koulutus- ja työvaihtoehdoista, hakuajoista sekä nuorille suunnatuista tukipalveluista. Nuoret hakevat tukea myös muihin elämää rajoittaviin ongelmiin, kuten alhaiseen itsetuntoon ja masennukseen. Taustatietoina litteraateissa ovat yhteydenpidon päivämäärä, ohjaajan numero ja ohjaustapa. Lisäksi tietoihin on laitettu alkuperäinen tapausnumero, jonka avulla voi yhdistää tapaukset alkuperäiseen julkaisuun (ks. julkaisut)."

"en": "The annual survey charted Finnish public opinion on foreign policy, defence policy, security, military alliances, military service, and international armed conflicts at the time of the survey. Some questions charted asylum policy and views on factors affecting safety and security. Opinions were charted on the success of foreign policy in the previous few years, funds allocated to the Defence Forces, whether Finland should resort to armed defence in case of any sort of attack, and how the global security situation would develop in the next five years. The respondents' readiness to participate in defending Finland in case of attack were queried. Views were probed on the current, conscription-based defence system and whether women should also participate in conscription. The respondents were asked whether Finland should form military alliances and whether Finland should apply for NATO membership. Concern caused by certain phenomena and issues was charted, such as the economic situation in Europe, global warming, proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, international terrorism, cybercrime, increase in the number of asylum-seekers, situation in Ukraine, and religious extremist groups. Some questions pertained to issues affecting the safety and security of Finland. These included, among others, Finland's EU membership, potential NATO membership, participation in the EU defence and in international crisis management, and military non-alignment. Satisfaction with defence policy in the previous few years was investigated. Views were charted on Finnish military cooperation in the EU, with NATO and with other Nordic countries. Opinions were probed on the possibility of a military threat against Finland in the following 10 years as well as Finland's chances to defend itself against an enemy in conventional warfare. The respondents were asked what their idea of the military tasks of the Finnish Defence Forces were (e.g. defending the territorial integrity of Finland, participating in the defence of the EU). Views were studied on Finland's preparedness for the prevention of various security threats, such as armed threat, infectious diseases and epidemics, environmental hazards, uncontrolled immigration, political pressure from other states, economic crisis, terrorism, and attacks against information systems and networks. The respondents were asked how Russia's actions affected/would affect Finland's security. Finally, opinions were charted on the increasing numbers of asylum-seekers in Finland and other European countries, the need for joint immigration and asylum policy in the EU, and how well Finland and the EU had prepared for the increasing number of asylum-seekers. Background variables included, among others, the respondent's gender, age, economic activity and occupational status, marital status, occupation of the household head, household composition, ages of children living at home, gross annual income of the household, newspaper reading habits, level of education, consumer durables in the household, type of accommodation, region of residence, number of inhabitants in the municipality of residence, Internet use, and political party choice in the previous parliamentary elections.",

Mukana oli myös kysymyksiä turvapaikkapolitiikasta, turvallisuuteen ja turvallisuudentunteeseen vaikuttavista tekijöistä, turvallisuuden kehittymisestä seuraavan viiden vuoden aikana sekä huolta aiheuttavista tekijöistä. Aluksi tiedusteltiin mielipiteitä Suomen ulkopolitiikan hoitamisesta, puolustusvoimille myönnettävistä varoista, aseellisesta puolustautumisesta, maailmantilan kehittymisestä, asevelvollisuudesta sekä sotilaallisesta liittoutumattomuudesta ja liittymisestä Natoon. Tulevaisuuden huolenaiheisiin liittyen kysyttiin, missä määrin esimerkiksi Euroopan talouden näkymät, ilmaston lämpeneminen, kansainvälinen terrorismi, kehitys Venäjällä tai työllisyystilanne Suomessa aiheuttavat huolta tulevaisuuden osalta. Haluttiin myös tietää millainen vaikutus eri tekijöillä, kuten Suomen EU-jäsenyydellä, Suomen mahdollisella Nato-jäsenyydellä, Suomen kansainvälisellä taloudellisen kanssakäymisen lisääntymisellä, suomalaisten osallistumisella kansainvälisiin kriisinhallintatehtäviin tai Suomen sotilaallisella liittoutumattomuudella on Suomen ja suomalaisten turvallisuuteen. Tämän jälkeen kysyttiin muun muassa Suomen puolustuspolitiikasta ja sotilaallisesta yhteistyöstä muiden Pohjoismaiden ja Naton kanssa sekä Euroopan Unionissa. Lisäksi pyydettiin mielipidettä Suomeen kohdistuvan sotilaallisen uhkan todennäköisyydestä seuraavien 10 vuoden kuluessa sekä tiedusteltiin Suomen mahdollisuuksista puolustautua tavanomaisin asein käytävässä sodassa. Seuraavaksi kysyttiin millaisina vastaajat näkivät Suomen puolustusvoimien sotilaalliset tehtävät ja miten hyvin Suomessa on varauduttu erilaisten turvallisuusuhkien torjuntaan. Lopuksi vastaajilta pyydettiin arvioita sotilaallisesta tilanteesta Suomen lähialueilla seuraavan kymmenen vuoden aikana sekä kysyttiin Venäjän toimien vaikutuksista Suomen turvallisuuteen. "en": "The survey studied Finnish women's attitudes towards and experiences of menopause. Information was gathered on the use of medical services, positive and negative experiences, as well as symptoms and consequences of menopause. The respondents were also asked about treatments for menopause. The first set of questions charted the health of the respondents. Regarding menopause, the respondents were asked about different surgical procedures such as hysteroctomy and ovary removal. Use of birth control methods was charted. In the following part the respondents were asked about the sources they had used to find information about menopause, if there were issues on which they would like to know more about, and what negative and positive things they associated with menopause. In addition, the respondents were asked to what extent they agreed with different statements regarding menopause and menopause treatments such as \"hormone replacement therapy effectively prevents osteoporosis\". In the last part, the respondents were asked about symptoms related to menopause, and their visits to the doctor because of these symptoms. The respondent were also asked about the use of different hormone replacement therapies, reasons for receiving hormone replacement therapy, and the effectiveness of hormone replacement therapy. Lastly, they answered questions on self-treatment methods that they had used to treat menopause. The background variables included the respodent's age, height, weight, diagnosed diseases and medical conditions, region of residence, type of municipality, basic education, economic activity, R's and spouse's occupational status, marital status, number of births and children, children's years of birth, and family composition.",

Kyselyssä kerättiin tietoja naisten terveyspalveluiden käytöstä vaihdevuosien takia ja miten naiset hoitavat itseään vaihdevuosien aikana. Artikkelit ovat aiheeltaan neljänlaisia: luontohavainnot, luontoharrastukset ja luontotietokannat, lintuvesien kunnostus (pääosin Lempäälän Ahtialanjärveä koskeva), Tampereen luonnontieteellinen museo sekä yleinen luontoharrastaminen. Varhaisimmat artikkelit on julkaistu vuonna 1972 ja uusimmat 2011, mutta suurin osa niistä on julkaistu 1990-luvulla tai sen jälkeen. Minna Santaoja keräsi aineiston ympäristöpolitiikan väitöskirjaansa varten. Lehtileikkeet vaihtelevat tyyliltään ja ne sisältävätkin uutisten lisäksi mm. pääkirjoituksia ja mielipidekirjoituksia. Uutisen etusivun otsikkoteksti, kuvat tai muut juttuun liittyvät osiot ovat myös usein poimittu mukaan aineistoon. Määrällisesti eniten lehtileikkeitä on Tampereen aluelehdestä Aamulehdestä, toiseksi eniten Lempäälän-Vesilahden Sanomista. Artikkelit on arkistoitu aiheittain ja lehdittäin niin, että yksi tiedosto sisältää kaikki aihepiirin artikkelit kyseisestä lehdestä. Artikkeleista löytyy yksityiskohtainen listaus aineiston taustatietoa-liitteissä. Jatkokäyttäjälle lehdittäin koostetuista tiedostoista on saatavilla html-hakemisto, joissa kokoelmia voi tarkastella lehden nimen, julkaisuvuoden, aiheen ja niiden sisältämien artikkeleiden lukumäärän mukaan."

"en": "The survey studied Finnish lifestyles, habits and leisure time activities. A number of questions pertained to cultural and leisure activities: television viewing, radio listening, outdoor hobbies like gardening or fishing, sports viewing, exercise, music and literature preferences and vacation habits. Respondents' dietary habits and use of some services (e.g. hairdressers, gyms) were surveyed. Respondents also rated the importance of various things in their life (family, work, health, standard of living, religion, travelling, literature, IT-related hobbies, cooking etc). Moral values were studied by asking what respondents disapprove or respect in other people. One theme covered respondents' health: illnesses, injuries and physical condition. Another theme pertained to the nature, independence and security of the respondent's job and his/her attitude to work. Participation in moonlighting was charted. Sexual behaviour was investigated by asking about the use of sex videos, sex magazines, striptease or prostitutes. Opinions on police powers were probed. The survey contained several questions about alcohol consumption, smoking and drug use. One topic pertained to consumer habits: buying through shopping channels, mail-order catalogues or Internet. Ownership of audio and video equipment, mobile phone or PC was charted. Respondents answered detailed questions of their media use. Views on the level of Finnish social security were probed. Respondents were also asked which social services should be paid from tax revenue. The survey asked which party the respondent had voted for in the EU membership referendum and which party he/she would vote for in the next parliamentary elections. Finally, some questions covered respondents' car (model, safety, motor etc). Background variables included respondents' sex, age, province, marital status, household composition, tenure, occupation, status in employment, basic and vocational education and the occupation and status in employment of the spouse and parents.",

Vastaajilta kysyttiin luontoon ja liikuntaan liittyvistä harrastuksista, musiikkimieltymyksistä, eri kirjallisuudenlajien lukemisesta sekä lomamatkustelusta. Vastaajien ruokailutottumuksia selvitettiin kysymällä mm. makutottumuksista, ruoan terveellisyydestä ja lämpimien aterioiden määrästä. Tutkimuksessa selvitettiin myös erilaisten palvelujen, kuten kosmetologin, parturin/kampaajan ja kuntosalin, käyttöä. Tutkimuksessa kartoitettiin erilaisten asioiden merkittävyyttä vastaajien elämässä. Näitä asioita olivat esimerkiksi työ, perhe, terveys, itsensä kehittäminen, ystävyyssuhteet, elintaso, uskonto ja sukupuolielämä. Lisäksi selvitettiin erilaisten harrastusten ja elämänpiirien merkitystä. Vastaajien arvoja tutkittiin myös selvittämällä millaisia ominaisuuksia he ihmisissä arvostavat. Vastaajien terveydentilasta tiedusteltiin kysymällä sairauksista, loukkaantumisista ja kunnosta. Työn luonnetta ja olosuhteita selvitettiin kysymällä mm. työn rutiininomaisuudesta sekä työhön liittyvistä epävarmuustekijöistä. Lisäksi kysyttiin, ovatko vastaajat tehneet ns. pimeitä töitä. Seksiin liittyvistä asioista selvitettiin mm. erilaisten seksivideoiden ja -lehtien käyttöä. Mielipiteitä poliisin toiminnasta tiedusteltiin kysymällä, mitä mieltä vastaajat ovat siitä, että poliisien toimintavaltuuksia lisättäisiin yksityisyydensuojan piirissä. Päihteiden käytöstä kysyttiin vastaajien nauttimien alkoholijuomien laatua, käyttömäärää ja useutta. Lisäksi tiedusteltiin, kuinka usein vastaajat käyvät ravintolassa, pubissa tai diskossa. Myös rauhoittavien lääkkeiden, huumeiden sekä tupakan käytöstä kysyttiin. Vastaajilta kysyttiin, että ovatko he tilanneet tavaraa TV-ostokanavien, postimyynnin tai internetin kautta. Lisäksi selvitettiin vastaajien perheiden viihde-elektroniikkalaitteiden määrää ja missä laitteet sijaitsevat kotona. Edelleen selvitettiin tiedotusvälineiden ja viihdykkeiden käyttöä ja määrää. Tutkimuksessa selvitettiin vastaajien mielipiteitä siitä, mihin sosiaalipalveluihin verorahoja pitäisi käyttää ja mikä sosiaaliturvan taso on. Poliittisesta käyttäytymisestä selvitettiin, mitä puoluetta vastaajat äänestäisivät seuraavissa vaaleissa ja mitä he äänestivät EU-kansanäänestyksessä. Lopuksi otettiin selvää vastaajien autosta ja siihen liitetyistä merkityksistä ja käsityksistä. Taustamuuttujia olivat mm. vastaajien työmarkkina-asema, ammatti, ikä, sukupuoli, lääni, siviilisääty, koulutus sekä puolison työmarkkina-asema ja ammatti."

"en": "The survey charted Finnish perceptions of social security. Respondents were asked about the their own and spouse's/partner's job, length of the contract, employment sector, working hours, wages, the nature of their job, interest in job sharing and whether they or spouses/partners had been unemployed or laid off during the past three years. Interest in changing their economic activity (e.g. by taking a part-time job, retiring, founding an enterprise) was queried. Unemployed or laid off respondents were asked how long they had been out of work and how soon they expected to find a job. Further questions pertained to unemployment benefits, participation in job training and standard of living. State of health was examined by asking whether respondents had chronic illnesses or health problems affecting their everyday life or ability to work. Chronically ill persons were asked whether they needed regular medical care, rehabilitation or prescription drugs. Experiences of burnout, insomnia or absent-mindedness were charted. Social relationships were studied by asking about close relationships and frequency of contacts. Respondents were asked whether there had been any major changes in their life recently and did they feel they could influence their own life, other people and social issues. One topic covered voting in the 1994 presidential elections, in the 1994 EU referendum and in the 1995 parliamentary elections. The survey carried a set of attitudinal statements relating to e.g. social and health services, social security, public sector financing, means-tested social benefits, universal basic income (UBI, citizen's income), taxation and income disparity. The extent to which respondents felt able to control their life was surveyed by asking how often they felt uncertainty or indifference, felt their actions were meaningless or that their life was interesting. Confidence in their own ability to solve problems or co-operate with others was assessed. Values were charted by asking how important the following things are to the respondent: religion, religious values, political participation, health services, social services, work, nature, education opportunities, neighbourhood, consumer opportunities, culture, world peace, science and high standard of living. One topic covered household income, expenses and social benefits received. Further questions covered various aspects of housing (tenure, size, satisfaction with neighbourhood, expenses). Respondents' satisfaction with and changes in their standard of living were charted. Opinions on the minimum level of income support were canvassed. Finally, respondents were asked whether they felt poor or debt-laden. Background variables included respondents' sex, year of birth, marital status, household structure, basic and vocational education, respondents' and spouses' economic activity and occupation.",

"en": "A follow-up study of students at the University of Turku. Participating students had started their studies in the autumn of 1998 and the surveys were conducted in 1999, 2000 and 2001. The composite data were part of a research project called Growing Demands of Skills and Knowledge - Learning and Development of Expertise in the Information Society, which in itself was a subproject of the Information Research Programme. The research programme was funded by the Academy of Finland. The surveys contain both one-off questions and annually repeated questions. In each survey, respondents evaluated their study strategies, the quality and nature of teaching in their course/major subject/department and their plans for the future. In the 2000 survey, the students evaluated their study success, study strategies and time management. Several questions pertained to preparing for exams. Feelings in socially demanding situations involving groups (e.g. seminars) were charted. Study aims and the extent of guidance received were investigated. Other questions covered the respondents' childhood home, occupation and education of their parents, reading and cultural participation of the family, parental attitudes to university studies, respondents' ICT skills when entering the university and current leisure habits. The respondents evaluated the level of their own expertise in their field of study. In 2001, the respondents were asked whether they worked during terms and whether they had under-age children. They were also asked whether their idea of their future professional field had changed during studies and whether the field was suitable for them. Different aspects of the learning environment in their course/major subject were studied (e.g. teaching methods, work load, degree of abstractness, feedback, quality of teaching). Experiences of guidance from student counsellors, teachers or fellow students were charted. Other questions covered study strategies, workload, study goals, exam preparations and feelings caused by studies. Future plans were studied by asking whether the respondents aimed to continue studying the same subject. Respondents rated the importance of different characteristics, skills and knowledge (e.g. human, language or literary skills, innovativeness, ability to solve problems) for experts in their field. Background variables included, among others, the respondent's gender, year of birth, faculty, major subject/course and previous degrees.",
"fi": "Yhdistelmäaineisto on osa Suomen Akatemian Tiedon tutkimusohjelman toisen vaiheen Tietämisen ja taitamisen kasvavat vaatimukset - asiantuntijuus ja sen rakentuminen tietoyhteiskunnassa -projektia. Tutkimukset tehtiin vuosina 1999, 2000 ja 2001. Niiden kohderyhmänä olivat Turun yliopistossa vuonna 1998 aloittaneet uudet opiskelijat. Kyselyt sisälsivät sekä tutkimuskohtaisia että vuosittain toistuvia kysymyksiä. Joka kierroksella vastaajat arvioivat väittämien avulla omia opiskelustrategioitaan ja toimintaa omalla laitoksella/koulutusohjelmassa/pääaineessa. Vuoden 1999 tutkimus tehtiin Turun yliopiston ulkoisen vaikuttavuuden arvioinnin yhteydessä. Siinä kartoitettiin yliopistoon hakeutumista ja pääaineen valintaa. Ensimmäisen vuoden opiskelijat arvioivat Turun yliopistoa opiskelupaikkana, punnitsivat saamaansa perehdytystä ja selvittivät käyttämiään opiskelija- tai ylioppilaskunnan palveluita. Vastaajat pohtivat myös tulevaisuuden suunnitelmiaan. Vuoden 2000 kyselyssä vastaajat arvioivat opiskelukokemuksiaan ja -tavoitteitaan. Väitelauseilla kartoitettiin tenttiin valmistautumistapoja ja tunteita opintoihin liittyvissä, vaikeaksi koetuissa sosiaalisissa ryhmätilanteissa, esimerkiksi seminaareissa. Lisäksi kysyttiin opinto-ohjaajilta, opettajilta ja opiskelutovereilta saadun ohjauksen määrää ja hyödyllisyyttä. Myös vastaajien perhetaustaa, lapsuuden ja nuoruuden harrastuksia, kasvu- ja kotiympäristöä sekä nykyisiä vapaa-ajan viettotapoja kartoitettiin. Vuosien 2000 ja 2001 tutkimuksissa vastaajat arvioivat myös pääaineensa tenttikäytäntöjä ja omaa kehitysvaihettaan aloittelija - asiantuntija-akselilla. Vuoden 2001 kyselyn alussa tiedusteltiin vastaajien nykyistä työssäkäyntiä ja lasten lukumäärää. Opinto-alan valintaa tarkasteltiin kysymällä vastaajien toiveammattia ja sitä, tunteeko vastaaja olevansa oikealla alalla. Edelleen tiedusteltiin, ovatko vastaajien ammattialaan liittyvät käsitykset ja opiskelutavoitteet muuttuneet ensimmäisen opiskeluvuoden jälkeen. Vastaajien piti myös arvioida koulutusohjelmaan liittyviä asioita esim. vaatimustasoa, opetusmenetelmien monipuolisuutta, opintokokonaisuuksien valinnaisuutta sekä eri tahoilta saatua ohjausta ja sen hyödyllisyyttä. Tutkimuksessa punnittiin opiskelun aiheuttamaa työmäärää ja kartoitettiin opiskeluun liittyviä tuntemuksia (esim. ilo, stressi, pettymys, ylpeys opintosaavutuksista). Lopuksi kartoitettiin tulevaisuuden suunnitelmia kysymällä, aikooko vastaaja jatkaa nykyisessä koulutusohjelmassa ja suorittaa tutkinnon. Tutkimusten taustamuuttujia ovat mm. sukupuoli, syntymävuosi ja koulutusohjelma/pääaine."

"en": "The survey charts Finnish opinion on the country's development co-operation, its objectives, allocation and successfulness. Respondents were asked which geographical area of the world they think should be the main target of the co-operation and why. They were asked to choose the three most important fields for Finland's co-operation (e.g. education, communications, forestry, democracy) and three main goals (e.g. promote peace, reduce poverty, prevent population growth, increase equality). Views on the causes of African poverty, improvement options and the future of African countries were probed. Opinions on the relationship between Finland's trade policy and development co-operation policy were canvassed. One theme covered the Africa 2002 campaign organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Several questions were asked about respondents' awareness of any events or television programmes connected with the campaign or their participation in them and what was the effect of the campaign on their knowledge and interest in Africa and development co-operation. Some questions asked whether there is enough information available of development co-operation and developing countries and from which sources respondents had received most information. Respondents evaluated the reliability of the information given by authorities, civil society groups and the media. They were also asked whether they know how much money Finland spends on development co-operation annually (as per cent of the GNI) and how much should be spent. The survey also probed views on how actively Finland promotes development issues in international forums and on the efficiency and successfulness of the country's development co-operation. One theme covered the satisfaction with disaster relief given by Finland, its speed, amount and targets. Respondents also compared the development co-operation of the civil society groups to that of the government. Opinions on whether development co-operation should be bilateral or multilateral were canvassed, likewise opinions on how ethically Finnish firms should act in developing countries. Background variables included respondents' age, sex, economic activity, marital status, occupation of the household member with highest income, household monthly gross income, household size and four regional variables.",
"fi": "Tutkimuksessa selvitettiin suomalaisten mielipiteitä Suomen kehitysyhteistyöstä, sen tavoitteista, kohdentamisesta ja onnistuneisuudesta. Haastatelluilta kysyttiin, mihin päin maailmaa kehitysyhteistyötä tulisi kohdistaa ja miksi sekä mille aloille sitä tulisi kohdentaa. Haastattelija luetteli 12 eri alaa, esimerkiksi opetuksen, terveydenhuollon, metsätalouden, naisten ja tyttöjen aseman parantamisen. Lisäksi vastaajien tuli valita haastattelijan luettelemista 12 vaihtoehdosta kolme tärkeintä kehitysyhteistyön päämäärää. Haastateltujen tuli pohtia erikseen Afrikan maiden tilannetta ja niille annettua apua. Heidän tuli ottaa kantaa siihen, voidaanko Afrikan maiden ongelmat ratkaista lähitulevaisuudessa ja millaisin keinoin tilannetta voidaan tehokkaimmin parantaa. Ulkoasiainministeriön järjestämästä Afrikka 2002 -kampanjasta kysyttiin lisäksi useita kysymyksiä. Vastaajilta kysyttiin muun muassa muistavatko he kevään 2002 aikana järjestettyjä tapahtumia ja esitettyjä TV-ohjelmia, jotka olivat osa kampanjaa, ovatko he nähneet jonkin TV-ohjelmista tai käyneet jossakin tapahtumista ja millainen vaikutus niillä on ollut heidän Afrikkaa ja kehitysyhteistyötä koskeviin tietoihinsa ja kiinnostukseensa. Vastaajia pyydettiin myös kertomaan, onko Suomessa saatavilla riittävästi tietoa kehitysyhteistyöstä ja kehitysmaista, miten luotettavaa on viranomaisten, kansalaisjärjestöjen ja tiedotusvälineiden antama tieto ja mistä lähteistä vastaajat ovat saaneet näitä asioita koskevaa tietoa eniten. Lisäksi kysyttiin, mitä mieltä vastaajat ovat Suomen kauppapolitiikan ja kehitysyhteistyön suhteesta. Edelleen selvitettiin, tietävätkö vastaajat, kuinka paljon Suomi vuosittain käyttää kehitysyhteistyöhön (prosentteina bruttokansantulostaan) ja minkä verran Suomen tulisi siihen käyttää. Tutkimuksessa kartoitettiin myös mielipiteitä Suomen toiminnan aktiivisuudesta tai passiivisuudesta kehityskysymyksissä kansainvälisillä areenoilla ja Suomen kehitysyhteistyön tehokkuudesta ja onnistuneisuudesta. Lisäksi kysyttiin, ovatko vastaajat tyytyväisiä Suomen toimintaan katastrofiavun antamisessa, reagoinnin nopeuteen, määrään ja kohteiden valintaan. Haastateltujen tuli arvioida myös kansalaisjärjestöjen tekemän kehitysyhteistyön paremmuutta tai huonommuutta suhteessa valtion tekemään. Aiheesta esitettiin useampia kysymyksiä. Edelleen selvitettiin, onko Suomen suora kahdenvälinen yhteistyö parempi vaihtoehto kuin monenkeskinen kansainvälisten järjestöjen ja rahoituslaitosten kautta toteutettu ja pitäisikö kehitysmaissa toimivien suomalaisyritysten kantaa sosiaalista vastuuta vai huolehtia vain liiketoiminnastaan sekä pitäisikö kansainvälisistä pääomaliikkeistä ja valuuttavirroista periä jokin prosenttiosuus kehitysyhteistyöhön (Tobinin vero) ja minkä suuruinen osuus voisi olla. Lopuksi kysyttiin, onko vastaajalla ollut kontakteja kehitysmaihin tai niissä asuviin ihmisiin. Taustamuuttujia ovat muun muassa vastaajan sukupuoli, ikä, työmarkkina-asema, siviilisääty, koulutus, perheen eniten ansaitsevan ammatti, perheen bruttotulot, ruokakunnan koko ja neljä aluemuuttujaa."

The respondents were asked how often, in which countries and to what purpose they had travelled abroad during the past five years. The respondents' experiences of living abroad, contacts with foreigners and knowledge of Oulu's twin city activities were queried. Opinions on the direction in which Oulu should develop its international co-operation were charted. Questions covered whether there should be more foreigners living in Oulu and the respondents' attitudes to different immigrant groups. The respondents were asked whether they could imagine foreigners in the role of a friend, nanny, husband/wife, supervisor at their workplace, doctor, etc. There were also some attitudinal statements pertaining to foreigners' rights to preserve their own language and culture and to receive the same social benefits as Finns do. Attitudes towards the European Union were charted. Opinions on the preferred countries for foreign trade partners were probed. The respondents were asked whether they had voted in the previous European Parliament elections. Views on various aspects of the internationalisation of Oulu were charted. Background variables included the respondent's gender, age, marital status, number of children, socio-economic status, basic and vocational education, economic activity, employment sector, level of income, religiousness, and language skills.",

Lisäksi selvitettiin, miten hyvin vastaajat tuntevat Oulun ystävyyskaupunkitoimintaa ja millä aloilla kaupungin pitäisi kehittää kansainvälistä yhteistoimintaansa. Oululaisten ulkomaalaisiin kohdistuvia asenteita selvitettiin tiedustelemalla näkisivätkö vastaajat mielellään kaupungissa asuvan nykyistä enemmän maahanmuuttajia. Vastaajilta kysyttiin edelleen, miten he suhtautuvat eri maahanmuuttajaryhmiin ja missä eri rooleissa (mm. ystävä, työtoveri, puoliso, kaupunginvaltuutettu) he voisivat jotakuta ulkomaalaista ajatella. Lisäksi esitettiin väitteitä maahanmuuttajien kulttuurin ja kielen säilyttämisestä. Oululaisten mielipiteitä kansainvälistymisestä selvitettiin tiedustelemalla suhtautumista Euroopan unioniin ja Suomen ulkomaankauppasuhteiden kehittämiseen eri maiden ja maaryhmien kanssa. Lisäksi kysyttiin äänestikö vastaaja edellisissä EU:n parlamenttivaaleissa. Lopuksi tiedusteltiin onko Oulu vastaajien mukaan kansainvälistynyt EU:n vaikutuksesta ja pitäisikö kaupunkiin saada lisää ulkomaista yritystoimintaa. Vastaajien täytyi vielä määritellä Oulun kansainvälistyneisyyttä suhteessa muihin Suomen kaupunkeihin ja arvioida Oulun heikkouksia ja vahvuuksia globalisoitumisessa. Taustamuuttujina olivat sukupuoli, ikä, siviilisääty, lapset, koulutus, sosioekonominen asema, tulotaso, työantajan toimiala, kielitaito ja suhde uskontoon."
