Data collection for this phase included a life situation questionnaire, a psychological interview, self-assessment forms, a health examination and monitoring of physical activity. This dataset contains personality and values tests that were sent to respondents to be completed at home. The first personality test, the Karolinska Scales of Personality (KSP), contains 135 questions, and measures impulsiveness, anxiety, aggressiveness and social adaptation. The respondents' habits, opinions and feelings connected to different situations were tested. The second personality test was the NEO Personality Inventory (NEO-PI), comprising 181 items. The instrument measures five personality traits that are commonly regarded as universal dimensions of personality: extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism and openness to experience. Responses were recorded on a five-point scale ranging from strongly disagree to strongly agree. In addition, respondents completed the Schwartz Value survey test, which examined their personal values. Main themes included, among others, the respondents' motives for moving from Russia to Finland, integration into Finnish society, social well-being, and perceptions of Finnish and Russian culture and values. The data consist of four surveys conducted between 2008 and 2013. The study follows the same remigrants throughout the surveys, and the first survey was conducted in Russia before the respondents moved to Finland. Some questions were repeated, although not always identically, in the four surveys. The surveys were conducted in Russian, but the data are in Finnish and English. Because the data do not contain all questions included in the questionnaire, only the questions included in the data are described here. The first three surveys were conducted as part of the INPRES (Intervening at the pre-migration stage: Providing tools for promoting integration and adaptation) research project and the fourth survey was conducted as part of the LADA (The Long-Term Adaptation of Diaspora Migrants) research project. The aim of the projects was to study pre- and post-migration factors involved in the long-term adaptation of ethnic re-migrants from Russia to Finland. Both research projects were funded by the Academy of Finland. In the first survey, which was the most extensive out of the four surveys, the motives for the respondents' prospective move to Finland (e.g. aspiration to secure children's future, will to live in the country of their ancestors, concerns regarding financial circumstances, will to live with relatives residing in Finland) as well as with whom they were planning to move were charted. The respondents' sources of information regarding Finland and Finnish society, for example, relatives/friends, Finnish language teachers, authorities or the media, as well as whether they had received support from the same sources were surveyed. Finally, the first survey charted whether the respondents had learned Finnish and for how long. In the four surveys, question sets charting the respondents' values, attitudes and prejudices against Finns and Russians were repeated. Several character trait descriptions were presented to the respondents, and they were asked to evaluate how well the descriptions fit a typical Finn, a typical Russian or them personally. The character trait descriptions included various themes, such as the importance of wealth, willingness to draw attention or take risks, devotion to friends, and importance of tradition. The respondents' social activity and participation in Finland were also charted from the second survey onwards with recurring questions on, for example, whether they spoke Russian/Finnish at home or with friends, read books in Russian/Finnish, and participated in different events. In the fourth survey, political activity was surveyed with questions on whether the respondents followed political discussion, voted and participated in collective activity. Additionally, other recurring questions in the surveys examined, for example, the respondents' satisfaction in their decision to move, their social networks and language skills, the stressfulness of the move as well as general information on the respondents' health and well-being. The respondents' sociodemographic background information was charted thoroughly in this study. Among other things, they were asked about their family, housing arrangements, employment situation, religious affiliation, religiosity and education. Background variables included, among others, the respondent's age (categorised), gender, marital status, financial circumstances, and economic activity and occupational status.","fi":"Kyselyissä tutkittiin Suomeen muuttaneita inkerinsuomalaisia ja heidän kotoutumistaan. Teemoina olivat muun muassa muuttamisen motiivit, integroituminen suomalaiseen yhteiskuntaan, sosiaalinen hyvinvointi, suomalainen ja venäläinen kulttuuri sekä arvot. Aineisto koostuu neljästä vuosien 2008-2013 aikana samalle joukolle toteutetusta kyselystä, joista ensimmäinen kysely kerättiin Venäjällä ennen vastaajien muuttoa. Tutkimusaineistoista kolme ensimmäistä on kerätty Suomen Akatemian rahoittamassa INPRES-hankkeessa ja neljäs kysely LADA -tutkimushankkeessa vuosien 2008-2013 aikana (hankenumerot 123297 ja 257079). Hankkeiden avulla pyrittiin saamaan lisätietoa inkerinsuomalaisten paluumuuttajataustaisten maahanmuuttajien kotoutumisesta. Kyselyissä käytettiin osin samoja kysymyksiä, mutta esitystavat saattoivat hieman vaihdella vuosittain. Aineisto kerättiin venäjänkielellä, mutta data on suomen- ja englanninkielinen. Koska data ei sisällä kaikkia kyselylomakkeen kysymyksiä, alla on kuvailtu vain datassa olevat muuttujat. Kyselyiden alussa vastaajalta kysyttiin sosiodemografisia muuttujia esimerkiksi perheeseen, asumiseen, työntekoon, uskontoon ja koulutukseen liittyen. Ensimmäisessä kyselyssä, joka on neljästä aineistoista laajin, tiedusteltiin Suomeen muuton suunnittelusta ja siihen vaikuttavista asioista sekä kenen kanssa vastaaja muuttaa. Muuttoa motivoiviksi asioiksi ehdotettiin esim. taloudellista tilannetta, lähtömaan konflikteja sekä koulutus- ja työmahdollisuuksia. Vastaajalta kysyttiin myös, mistä on saanut tietoa paluumuuttoon liittyen ja kuinka siihen on valmistautunut kuten esim. suomen kieltä opettelemalla. Eri kyselyissä toistuivat kysymyspatteristot omiin arvoihin, asenteisiin ja ennakkoluuloihin suomalaisia ja venäläisiä koskien. Vastaajalta tiedusteltiin erilaisten luonnekuvausten ja toimintojen perusteella, onko hän samanlainen kuin väitteen henkilö. Samoin kysyttiin, ovatko tyypilliset suomalaiset ja venäläiset väitteen kaltaisia. Samoin toistuivat sosiaaliseen ja poliittiseen aktiivisuuteen liittyvät kysymykset, joissa tiedusteltiin esimerkiksi vaaleissa äänestämistä ja ystävien lukumäärää. Kyselyissä tiedusteltiin edellisten lisäksi myös vastaajan sosiaalisia verkostoja, tyytyväisyyttä muuttopäätökseen ja työtilanteeseen, kielitaitoa, muuttamisen stressaavuutta ja yleisiä hyvinvointiin ja terveyteen liittyviä asioita. The data also contain conversions made from variables in the questionnaire, e.g. conversions of consumed quantities of different drinks into pure alcohol. The study was as part of a project entitled Tackling Inequalities in Time of Austerity (TITA) funded by the Strategic Research Council of the Academy of Finland (decision number: 293103). First, the respondents were asked about their life satisfaction, mood, ability to achieve things, perceived status in society and trust in other people. Regarding income and personal finance, net income of the household and the ease of covering usual expenses with the income was surveyed as well as the monthly costs incurred by debt. The respondents were asked whether their parents had been unemployed or received social security benefits when they were in their teens and whether the respondents themselves had received social assistance in the previous year. The respondents were asked how much they cared about the well-being of different groups (e.g. the homeless, immigrants, refugees and asylum-seekers, children in poor families, the elderly). The respondents were presented statements about whether the differences in income, health, neighbourhoods and education were too high in Finland. A number of statements about social assistance (the social security benefit of the last resort) were presented. Finally, the respondents were asked to what extent they agreed with statements about their own welfare and well-being. Opinions on national defence and security were examined with questions on the maintenance of national security, voluntary national defence and mandatory national defence training for women. Next, attitudes towards the Finnish climate of debate and debate participation were charted with questions relating to, for example, deliberate provocation in Finnish discussion, social media and traditional media, personal ability to evaluate the actions of decision-makers, and perceived likelihood of being able to influence societal affairs. Opinions on carrying out illegal activities for a good cause were also examined. Finally, the respondents were asked to what extent they agreed or disagreed with statements regarding climate change issues, Finnish participation in solving global problems, and price of food in Finland. Background variables included, among others, gender, age, NUTS2 and NUTS3 regions of residence, level of education, status in employment, household composition, household income and political party preference. Neljä keskusteluryhmää on muodostettu pyrkien siihen, että ne sisältäisivät mahdollisimman erilaisia mediankäyttäjiä: raviurheilua harrastavat tai sen parissa työskentelevät suomalaiset, käsityökerhoa harrastavat suomalaiset ikääntyvät naiset, puolustusvoimilla työskentelevät suomalaiset nuoret miehet sekä noin 20-vuotiaat suomalaiset korkeakouluopiskelijat. Tutkimuksessa tarkasteltiin myös sitä, miten ryhmän ikä- ja sukupuolijakauma vaikuttaa väkivallan pelkoon ja siitä keskustelemiseen. Ryhmäkoko vaihteli kolmesta yhteentoista osallistujaan ja yhteensä tutkimukseen osallistui 24 henkilöä. Functional ability and mobility were assessed by examining movement and activity limitations and their underlying causes, such as somatic, neurological and mental health conditions, and by collecting information on accidents and injuries. Data collection for this phase included a life situation questionnaire, a psychological interview, self-assessment forms, a health examination and monitoring of physical activity. At the beginning of the psychological interview (FSD4025), a life history calendar (FSD4023) was completed. This dataset contains the responses to self-rating questionnaires completed during the interviews. Themes included mental well-being, mood, life satisfaction, social relationships, work, future expectations and preparations for old age.The questionnaires were either original or modified versions of specific tests and measurements, translated into Finnish. Three questionnaires studied emotions in terms of accepting, recognising and controlling them. The first one investigated how the respondent was feeling at the moment of answering (e.g. disappointed, happy) and the second how the respondent felt in general (e.g. active, nervous). The next questionnaire covered aggression and the ways of controlling and showing it. Depressive symptoms were also assessed with several statements. The respondents' feelings of self-worth and self-appreciation were studied using the Rosenberg self-esteem scale. Psychological well-being was examined with 18 statements focusing on autonomy, personal growth, relations with others, purpose in life and self-acceptance. Social well-being was studied with 15 statements. These included, for instance, the respondent's view on how kind people are, whether society has stopped developing and whether they felt that they belonged to a community. The respondents were also asked about their life satisfaction, perceptions of their community, society, and their own contribution to their community. Social support was explored from the perspectives of both support given and support received, including descriptions of close relationships and opportunities to receive help in different situations. Working life was explored through questions on career success, the quality and meaningfulness of work, work-family interaction, and emotional responses to work, such as feelings of hurry, enthusiasm, and exhaustion. The interview assessed participants' self-perception, life satisfaction, and stress. In addition, participants' views on life, society, and politics, as well as their lifestyle were explored. Several questions were also asked about participants' leisure time, hobbies, and health-related behaviours. Interpersonal relationships, romantic relationships, parenthood, grandparenthood, and relationships with children and grandchildren were examined with several questions. Participants were also asked about their relationships with their own parents. Work-related questions covered the significance of work, time pressures, opportunities for influence, challenges, uncertainties, recovery, and the balance between work and private life. Experiences of ageing and future plans were examined by asking about retirement, age-related changes, age discrimination, and personal goals. Myös tutkittavien vapaa-ajasta, harrastuksista ja elämäntavoista esitettiin useita kysymyksiä. Ihmissuhteita, parisuhdetta, vanhemmuutta, isovanhemmuutta sekä suhteita lapsiin ja lapsenlapsiin kartoitettiin useilla kysymyksillä. Tiedusteltiin myös haastateltavien suhdetta omiin vanhempiinsa. Työhön liittyen kysyttiin työn merkityksestä, aikapaineista, vaikutusmahdollisuuksista, haasteellisuudesta, epävarmuustekijöistä, palautumisesta sekä työn ja yksityiselämän yhteensovittamisesta. Ikäkokemuksia ja tulevaisuuden suunnitelmia kartoitettiin kysymällä eläkkeelle siirtymisestä, ikään liittyvistä muutoksista, ikäsyrjinnästä ja tavoitteista.
